Shooting Star and going steady
Jon and Richie performed a gorgeous cover of Bad Company's "Shooting Star" at their charity concert in London, at the Hammersmith Odeon on January 10, 1990.
A video of that is part of the Access All Areas: A Rock & Roll Odyssey documentary.
In that video Jon intros the song like this:
"This is a song Bad Company did. And I used to work in these little bars and there was a band called Richie Sambora and Friends and it seems every time I come in he'd sing this song I guess it's almost a way of telling you where we steal our tricks from."
Turns out the documentary cut that intro down and altered it a bit (they also shortened the song).
Because if you listen to an audio-only version of the whole concert, there's more to it:

Richie: "I used to sing it for Jon every time he used to come in ..."
Jon: "Oh look at us. That means we're going steady or something."
Interesting that the bit about "stealing tricks from" must have been lifted from sometime else.
Now I also really want to listen to a version of this song performed by Richie Sambora and Friends!
If you read the lyrics, you realize why Richie favored this song. With his Beatles obsessions it must have felt like it was written for him. And then on top of that, he met this guy Jonny who clearly was meant to be a star ..
