AITA for refusing to give back the ransom in full?
The title of this makes this whole situation sound terrible, but I ask you to hear me out.
I (12M) kidnapped a fairy (70?F) some months ago. In exchange for her freedom, I was to be given one ton of 24-carat fairy gold. I wanted to use/used this money to achieve contact with my father (37M), who had been M.I.A. for around two years. However, after witnessing the healing abilities the fairy - whom I will be referring to as āDaisyā from hereon out - possessed, I was convinced to make a compromise of half of the desired ransom for my mother (38F) to be cured of mental issues that had been affecting her since the disappearance of my father.
Daisy and her work eventually relented and gave me the requested ransom, and I allowed her to walk away with half of it. She kept her word and healed my mother, which I am incredibly grateful for. She and her work then attempted to kill me and two of my compatriots, which would allow them to work within a loophole where they could collect the rest of the gold once I was dead. Of course, Iām not dead, so I kept the other half.
Today I reencountered Daisy and helped her solve a burgeoning rebellion that was occurring where she lived. She in turn helped me reunite with my father, which I am, again, eternally grateful for. Afterwards, she said that she felt I could be a good person, and I fear sheās correct, as I feel slightly guilty about keeping the gold now. Not incredibly guilty, as it opened my world up to many new aspects and was put to good use, but itās there nonetheless.
So, might I ask, am I the āassholeā for keeping the ransom?
EDIT: Yes, I am twelve. Yes, this is the way I talk. Itās like no one has ever encountered a young person who isnāt an idiot. No, this is not fake, and, again, me being twelve doesnāt prove nor disprove this whatsoever. Neither does my talk of fairies. In fact, Daisy being a fairy has little to no effect on the story as a whole, so I donāt think that is the part you should be focusing on.
EDIT TWO: Please stop asking about the details of kidnapping itself. That was nearly six months ago and I wouldnāt do it again. Iām only asking about whether keeping the ransom I received is morally correct or not.
EDIT THREE, FINAL EDIT: No, Daisy would never see this. If she did, Iām more than sure she would find a way to give me her two cents. I donāt use Reddit myself, I simply saw one of the compatriots I referred to earlier using this in her spare time, and I figured this was as unbiased of an argument I would receive about this issue. Of course, I severely misjudged the intelligence and empathy the average Reddit user might have. All of you are either designating this as a fake post, or painting me and my actions in a negative light without legitimately considering whether the situation dictated it. Now, more than ever, I am assured in my actions. All of your pitiful arguments only served to help me reestablish why exactly I am in the right, so I suppose I should thank you for that, at the very least. I will not be updating this post any further. Do not attempt to contact me in any way.
