Layers

      Skin. The epidermis is the outer protective layer of cells resistant to variations of temperature and humidity; filled with many touch receptors. It takes one month for new cells to get pushed to the top layer. The skin you have a month from today will be completely new compared to the skin you have now.Think about when you were younger and you were learning to ride your bike for the very first time. Pushing off with two backward strokes of each foot then pedaling. You were too afraid to stop in the moment with such speed and euphoric freedom. In a panic, you did not know what to do. You had ran into a curb, fallen and scraped your knee. It probably hurt for a moment and your parents cleaned and bandaged it. In two days, a scab had formed. The body limits blood loss by reducing the amount of blood flowing to the wound. Proteins in blood, work with the blood platelets and plasma to form a protective covering called a scab. It gives the skin a chance to repair itself while protecting it. Old skin was broken and scraped away then new skin layer grew in its place.  In Genesis, God took a rib from Adam to create Eve and immediately restored his flesh. ‘’So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place’’. – Genesis 2:21

     The smallest and simplest piece of your identity rests on your finger pads.  Each person’s fingerprint is different; every swirl looping in unison.  Every man and woman has been specially crafted piece by piece and his hand is on us every day. There is security in his grace woven through peace by peace. How could someone think in such a vast complexity? How would someone know everything that we need? How amazing is our God! We can literally see his fingerprint on every aspect of ourselves and our lives. Maybe that’s why we’re called his handiwork. Underneath your layers of skin there rests the person you are. Just like that of the skin, YOU can be repaired after being hurt, or broken. When the enemy comes by surprise and attacks or takes from you, you will be restored. We may be enraged when the most desultory of things happen which we cannot understand.  Every pain, sickness, affliction, or abrasion, God has the power to heal. Isaiah 53:5 says that by his wounds we are healed. You may feel you’ve died inside, but you will rise again just as the Son has through his resurrection. The enemy could not hold him. The grave could not hold him. Those things cannot hold you. Even in the event of death, you are renewed through the eternal life that God has given you. He has created you to be indestructible! You may feel broken, but don’t be disheartened. He desires you, longs to know you, and is determined to supply your every need. God will pick up all your broken pieces and put them back together again. He will heal your heart. He will quiet you with the sweet repetitions of his love and the comforting whispers of his Holy Spirit. He will never abandon you. He will reinforce you for the next trial and you will stand again. Talk about layers.

Dear Father, Father, author of my life 
Thank you for teaching me to be bold without leaving behind muddy footprint tracks on the hearts of others from dripping wet with pride. Thank you for your love and grace that has been my anecdote when I have drank every lethal drop from the bottle. The bottle that was filled to the brim with spite,anger and revenge for the people who left my heart broken. Drunk from these. From self-indulgence. Causing me to walk unsteadily, knocking into everyone on my path. What I did to get my quick fix, broke me. It bruised and punctured my heart. I was the one who was really getting hurt. What I thought would free me, tied me up. Eventually I threw the bottle at the wall and watched it shatter to a million. I’ve come to find the things I used to pursue gave temporal satisfaction. Then what was left? But Oh love has won! You have cultivated bursting gardens of mercy and forgiveness in my heart. Thank you for ripping the ropes from my ankles,for ripping the roots of intruding weeds from my heart. You have made me jump for joy that I could not contain. You have made me run.You have made dance like a wildfire. You made beauty from ashes. You have given me a new song. Thank you. Sincerely, Your daughter.

Nearer, Nearer

“Low and meek one, lift up your head.
Beloved I call out to you but 
your heart is abrasive towards me. Your heart feels unsought. Feeling insignificant,

Today, let go of doubts and trust in me.

Known

Wretched, broken, weak, you want me. 
Knocked down, anxious and unsure and you love all of me. My tongue should be tamed.
My mind should be changed.
my heart should be cleansed
And you think of me. I don’t care for too much attention. I feel that I should hide in my jacket. And that I should bury my past. That I shouldn’t speak because I’m not sure they would care. But your eyes are ever on your daughter and you never miss me in crowds or if I stand in the back. You reach out to me.
You look at me like there’s something special about me. I hurt you then you clothe me, give me a house and warm meals. 
I don’t listen but you thought I was worth saving. 
At the most a human can love, one could never love you back exactly the same way that you love us and you love us anyway. Irrevocable love. There is no good thing in me and you’re still after me.

Yeshua's Voice

Yeshua, your voice breaks the trees. It thunders with flashes of lightning. Your voice is a lulling song. 
So much beauty from the sound of your voice, oceans, skies and mountains were the result. Light came into existence. And flowers emitting aromas. 
From your voice came bones, two and four-legged beings, and other voices. From your voice came minds that can hold memories and write poetry. Blood that’s pumps through veins and hands that make music with strings.
Beings with the complexity to love with their bodies and words and wage war. Beings that dance to the beat of your constant love–Untameable. Unshakable.
From your voice came beings who cry and tremble. Who’s noses scrunch when they laugh. Red-freckled cheeks and collar bones. Hearts that pound and pupils that dialate the moment they see the one that they love.
That voice that puts each baby to sleep in peace. The voice that silences the enemy. The voice that shakes the ground. Who can drown it out?
Who could silence it?
Who could speak and do the things that He has done?
When you speak my heart melts and the whole world is silent. When I feel misunderstood and alone, your voice has said “I’m right here”. The voice who had the first word will have the last. King of the mountains and valleys your voice is forever praised!

Bed

My bed is the most uncomfortable place to be, other than my very own skin. The saddest thing is that I’ve known myself much longer than some poor mattress. I haven’t been able to sleep for months. Namely, Insomnia is one thing and a harsh back-stabbing mattress laden with springs is another. With the both combined, I’m forced nowhere else but into my very own mind to listen to my thoughts until I fall asleep. Some people do most of their thinking throughout the day or in the shower. Most of mine spring up here. To think, one day my bed will be shared with another.His Fingertips meeting mine.Another hand there to hold mine, I will be able to share my midnight thoughts with the love of my life. He will share his with me. The regrets, the hopes that make our heart pound, the things that make us afraid, the things we don’t like about ourselves. Where the absence of our guard is present. The reason the sky has clouds today and the next does not. The most inconceivable thoughts of God. What we’re going to do with the worn furniture piece and the eight jars of nuttela we just had to buy because they were on sale. Remembering we forgot to return our redbox movie. What we’re going to eat for breakfast in the morning. Where our eyes alone can hold conversation without words.The one place my child will to ask to stay with me and mine because he’s afraid.
But that is on the other side. Bed is leisure and solitude. The place you sit to wonder what the heck just happened. It is the space you never want to leave somedays. The reason you’re staring at the ceiling when nostalgia wakes. Where your mind confronts your complacency. A whirlwind of relentless pounding memories and embers of the fragmented ones that somehow never seem to die away. The look on their face when they not only broke their silence but your heart. The sound of her laugh. The painful occurrence you can’t understand. Not to mention, where you dump stuff you’ll put away later. Where the dance of tossing and turning begins. Where you’ve woken up panting glad that it was just a dream. A place of reclusion when the world gets too heavy. The place to hide away from everything. It’s funny. We used to do the same when we were kids right? You’d think we’d learn that the blankets can’t save us from everything now. But sometimes it’s the only thing you trust holding you while you’re crying in the dark.

God fill me up. Come recklessly flood my courts. Pour into the depths of my being. Saturate my soul with more of you. Remain in my mind, governing my thoughts as if on a throne. Guarding it and grounding me. Filling it with your voice, your will, with the awareness of your presence, grace, and love; with the realizations of how amazing you truly are! Clean me. Wash away every ungodliness. I am the glass of unclean water full of my own desires. Pour your pure water into my glass replacing my heart desires with what yours does. Strip away everything that separates us. Rip away every stubborn piece of me. Break my chains. Completely reconstruct me Lord. Let me get to know you more and more. Everything I thought I knew, do away with it. Teach me everything you want me to know. Speak to me and tug on my heart if I ever begin to stray. I never want to leave your presence Lord. Quench my thirst for you God. Increase my amazement. Plant a passion in my heart that grows into a beautiful monumentous tree, deeply-rooted beside your feet O Lord even until eternity .Let that passion blaze like a wildfire. Father, draw me into your perfect love. Let me feel your everlasting arms around me. Lift my feet above the ground. Lift me above my dark past, pulling me continually closer to heaven each day. That is my prayer.

One day I’m dancing and singing
Singing when I’m at my best and worst.
Posting photos of faith. Encouraging others with my very lips or keyboard as much as I breathe but I’m the one who needs encouragement. Soaking in my anguish, sometimes. I am weak but His word still stands while my tears fall.Often In the Word preparing for battle but when the time comes its like I’m able to take the hundred men but break when I’m faced with a thousand. I fall to my knees and cry out to God. Sometimes I feel alone because noone understands but Him. He’s felt it all. I know he’s always there but sometimes I feel like saying “So much for strength in numbers” as if He’s walked away. I might not understand now but He sees the big picture. When my faith has withered once again. He’s the only one who has revived it. I cant do this on my own. Everyday He just shows me I need Him more and more. He is my help. He brings a smile from sorrow. He restores my soul. He is my strength. The same voice who spoke the oceans and mountains into existance, lulls me and I do not fear.

When my faith has withered once again,He’s the only one who revives it. Amidst the lowest trenches, I’ve known pain soaked into young bones. Each giving themselves up to death’s hands. I feel as though I’ve become a part of a graveyard. I think of my neighbors who have inhabited this darkness. The stillness is here. My body is as iron. But My soul is racing. I remember that Emmanuel means “God with us”. That God is good in both the sun and the rain. That no eye has seen or heard what is instore for those who love Him. I remember something like electric is surging up and down my frame that gave me life. His Spirit has found His home with me. Power was placed in the Son’s hands to rise from the dead with all glory and now it is placed in mine. This warrior cry will blanket the mountains and reach the clouds and all will know that the God of Abraham and Jacob is alive; That He is the one who has delivered me.

When the sun rises, you are the first person my eyes will see. I rise to seek my beauty, My Lord. Now set your heart and soul to seek the LORD your God! Arise Oh sleeper! When you said seek my face, my heart said to you “your face Oh Lord I will seek”. I will seek you continually. When the poisonous and unsightly scratches at my skin. When doubt plays a game of hide and seek with me aback my mind. When my strength has rolled in slowly. No man on earth and no power suspended will restrain me. Nothing can keep me from you. Even this flesh awaits you. My soul thirsts for you as in a dry land. It cries aloud as rolling thunder beneath my flesh. I have set my affections on your Spirit. What can I do for you? Where do you wish that I go? Speak Lord, your servant is listening. My heart cries “nearer, nearer, how I want to know you!” So turn your ear to me and pull me a little closer. Take me with you. You’re worth leaving it all behind. When I am crushed under the weight and my years have grown, remind me to whom I belong, take my indulgences. Still, after the storm is over, I will seek you. Beckon me. Stretch out your hand to me.
Speak. I want to hear your voice.
Come. I want to be where you are. 
Reach. Take me with you. 
Stay. I want to be with you forever.
