Yesterday I walked the women’s march Amsterdam with Daan and Natasja. It was wonderful! I made the signs and this picture was taken with me and my character on it, loved it!

FUN PART!

Forthcoming Saturday will be the Woman’s March in Amsterdam. Some classmates and I will join this demonstration. Therefore we will use my character to protest for. These are the protesting sings I made for it. Loved doing it, made me feel like a warrior for woman’s rights!

One of my five ways will be a protesting sign at the woman’s march at March 11th. These are some examples I really like because of the bold visuals. I also like the part that with this way, my character will become more in the world. It becomes real.

I order to make a good visual outcome, I wanted to develop also on a research level. This is one of the books I am currently reading. It is good to know more background information and have different perspectives. 

One of the parts I especially liked was one where Naomi Wolf explained that beauty is an currency system like the gold standard. Like any economy, it is determined by politics and in the modern age in West it is the last, best belief system that keeps male  dominance intact. 

I am a young woman living in this kind of economy and I am still not there yet what I am founding of this ‘currency system’. Nor if I would like to participate in it. Or am I already taking part of it? 

So for me there is a lot more to do research about. I will continue with these questions and combine them with the five ways.

One way I am planning in making a strip. You can see the next step in these pictures. I like the three color way of making this. I am planning in doing the definitive way with a four color rise booklet.

Because we are so tight working with our character, I found it also liberating to draw free random work in order to get further als with the character. These are some draft I made. Trying out different color combinations, shapes and lines. Especially the first drawing is something I get enthusiastic about. The combining fat markers with light pencils. Will try to implement this in my characters work.

To visualize the transformation from woman into Boobmonster, I am planning to make a painting as one of the five ways. It has to be expressive and bold. As the character is. These are some first sketches I made in order to explore the feeling of transformation. So far I am not there yet. I think the composition of the character is still a little bit flat. I want to be able to put more movement in the sketches. More sketches will come!

For one of my five ways Ill make a comic strip. I want to make sure the background of my character will be clear. Also the storytelling part I found quite difficult so that is an extra challenge for me. So far I like the style and color of the strips. Will be continue develop it further!

Going to the zoo part 2.

Not all drawings I made were good. This is a selection of the one’s I like the least. It is because of the proportion and the fact that some of them are too abstract that now, one day later, I can’t even see witch animal it was.

Going to the zoo part one

Yesterday we went to the zoo with the class of Marie-Claire and Idris. We had to draw with different kinds of pencils. This is a selection of drawings I like the most. Especially the one’s drawn with the big blue marker.

This is Boob Monster. My definite character. I made this character card with the Riso. Robert has an analog copy of it because I think analog this technic looks better.

Currently I am working on making the character’s background. These are some of the first sketches in making it more concrete and realistic.

Since yesterday, I have been working on only one character: Boob Monster. So from now on I am refining this creature by starting making it digital in Illustrator. these are the first drafts,  just experimenting with the shapes and colors and how the digital part will effect the outcome of it.

One of the characters I am currently working on developing is Mr. G. He is a grumpy hatted man with glasses.

Experiments 1.0. 

When not in class, I still try to experiment with the analogue part because I think there are still some steps to make. Trying out lines, no lines, getting with the paper and solide shapes.
