A meditation of some local cafés
A coffee shop called Café Talk in Cebu City, Philippines is one of the newest café chains in town. There are two branches of the café, each of which is designed to render a specific ambiance.
One might reminisce those times when Ernest Hemingway dropped by Parisian cafes, one after the other, having artsy talks with his literary fellows Ford Madox Ford, Ezra Pound, James Joyce, Gertrude Stein and Jean Rhys. Now, imagine a place that makes you wonder about those, a coffee shop that is both Parisian in design and in inspiration.

The branch in Banilad, Cebu is Parisian street scene inspired. It features genuine Parisian ambiance and cozy bookshelves topped with an overall friendly atmosphere.
A variation of the café sits in a business park in Cebu offers a classy-looking motif, a book buffet wherein one can have literary events like novel and poetry reading.

You could just be so productive in these sort of cafés! You might wonder why these places make you feel just doing things and finishing them. What is the science behind these pleasant cafés?
When you ask yourself that question, just think about why writers love to stay in.
Thank you for the mention! :)
Too shy to make a video, but here’s why I like to read
bookbed.org
Thank you, Shing!
I have been a fervent reader since the tender age of 6. Because of this and my bad reading habits, I got my first glasses at the age of 8. And my eyesight only got worse, but never have I regretted discovering my love for reading.
When I was young, reading has been my backyard— a vast one in...
Thank you, Clarissa! :)
Thank you to everyone who has bedded books for the Yolanda survivors in Palawan and the Visayas region! Half of the proceeds have gone to The Butterfly Project, a unique cause that provides personal sanitary care for women and children. God bless this group's advocacy and may it reach more people in need.
To those who want to know more about #YouLendAHand, please visit their page at facebook.com/butterflyproject.ph or write to [email protected].
Maayong adlaw!
It has been three days since Typhoon Yolanda hit central Philippines, leaving immeasurable pain and devastation. Apart from donating food, clothes and other essentials and volunteering in the relief operations, I have decided to give the proceeds of all the books currently available to the Philippine Red Cross.
You may check the Facebook page (facebook.com/bookbed) for the titles. If you find anything you are interested in, you may fill out an order form here: bookbed.tumblr.combedabook.
Thank you and may we continue believing in the Filipinos' resiliency!
EDIT: To those who want to share their books (and the proceeds to the relief ops), please write me at [email protected].
We are 3 today! In celebration, books* are at 30% off if you bed within the month of July. Keep reading!
*Slumberbooks not included
I know I’ve been majorly neglecting the blog these past couple of weeks, but I promise there’s a good reason for that, which I will get to in a different post, because explaining that reason is only secondary to catching up. Woo.
First order of business! Lookit my fancy new shirt! (And my face, but ugh, ignore that.) Technically it’s about three days old since it arrived earlier in the week, but it’s still shiny and pretty and new in my eyes, so there. And yes, I deliberately posed in front of my To-Read shelf, filled with books I’ve hoarded over the past few…okay, years. But I’m keeping my promise and sticking to one book per month this year! (But lol, that doesn’t mean I can’t get other people to buy stuff for me, heehee.)
Anyway, this testament to my hoarding is now mine because I won another bookbed giveaway! As always, thanks so much, KB, for tolerating—nay, celebrating—my excessive tweeting and hoarding. And thank you also to Booktique, whom I’ve following on Facebook for a while but hadn’t had the chance to actually order from. I was originally hoping to get a Catcher in the Rye shirt but they didn’t have one in my size, but no matter. Just another reason to keep checking them out in the future.
There is still so, so, so much to write about, but for now, I am taking a much needed weekend away from my life to recharge and rethink and restart everything. It’s going well so far. I’m eating a lot of nuts. Invisigirl out.
Thanks, Shaniqua! Shirt looks good on you, but your books look way amazing with you! Keep reading.. and joining, of course.
Finally, finally, here are the lucky seven winners of the #newyeargiveaway!
Please send your full name, shipping address and contact number to emailbookbed [at] gmail [dot] com within today until tomorrow, February 5.
Thanks to all who joined!
WHAT A WAY TO “START” THE YEAR! I WON! I never seem to win free stuff, so this is something new and exciting for me. (I’m sure the all caps gave it away). I reblogged seven times, I think? One entry for each day of the contest, except for the first day. Kahit antok na antok na ako and wala akong plan to go online for a certain day, I went online anyway, just to reblog. I also tried the law of attraction. I’ve bought books from KB before so I just pictured the pink 2GO plastic packaging. (Side note, buti nalang 2GO parin yung courier, kasi what if air21 at purple ang naimagine ko, eh di talo agad?)
I won four things:
1 and 2: Books from Bookbed. “The Cardturner” by Louis Sachar and “The Karma Club” by Jessica Brody. As I’ve said, I’ve bought books from her before so feeling ko it’s a plus! Not in the whole choosing of winners thing, but dun sa titles kasi ng books, they’re actually books I would enjoy. Then yung fluff pa na naka insert has something to do with exercising and reading. KB and I follow each other on Tumblr and I think she knows how much I need to exercise. Nagpapatama ba? haha thanks!
3. Very pretty stationery (The Perks of being a Wallflower themed) from Animac art studio. I was supposed to order from them last December (Christmas sale!) but I got really confused with PayPal and GCash so tuwang tuwa ako I got this. YAY!!
4. HAPPINESS OMG! As I said, I never really win free stuff so seeing my name on the list of winners was WOWZA! My name came out FIRST, AND THEN SECOND SO DOUBLE WOWZA. I feel so lucky!
Thanks, KB and Company! Readers are the best! :)
Hear, hear! Thanks for joining, too, Denise! I think you were really meant to win since your name came up twice! (P.S. All people need to exercise :p)
February 7, 2013
I recently joined and won a giveaway hosted by Bookbed. Actually, the winners were announced exactly on my birthday, so this is like a birthday gift for me \*O*/
I won a Hunger Games stationary set from Animac Art Studio and 2 books (Becoming Chloe and Lost in a Good Book) from Bookbed.
Happy girl is happy :))

If you say you're seriously in love with The Boy Who Lived, The Girl on Fire and The Wallflower Writer, then you might already have Animac Art Studio in your life.
WAIT. WHAT DID YOU SAY? NO? YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT ANIMAC IS? THEN, CRUCIO--- Only kidding.
But what isn't a joke is this: This super (as in with a cape) awesome online art shop is a must-everything in your life! From bookmarks and stickers to postcards and stationery, it offers to-die-for additions to your secret (or not) shrine of fandom. Or your postcard addiction. Or your sticker collection. Or your stack of book accessories.
bookbed: How did Animac start?
Animac: It was a "Eureka!" moment, thanks to Frankie magazine. I was reading an issue in late 2011 and I saw all these features about artists and how they turned their passions and hobbies into businesses. A few days later, I woke up in the morning and decided, "Why not me too?" I spent the first half of 2012 by making art that I thought would be good enough to sell and launched Animac in August that year.
bb: What has having Animac brought up for you so far?
Animac: The best thing has been the opportunity to show my work to the world one art at time. The second best thing is probably money. Haha!
bb: What is in the future for Animac?
Animac: Right now, I'm generally working on improving my designs and making more art to see which ones I could turn into a collection for next releases. Also, my sister and I have got plans on venturing into designing clutch bags, but nothing has been set in stone yet!
That sounded like there's even much more to look out for from Animac! But as we wait for the ahem-clutchbag-ahem (or others) to be set, make sure you get these fantastic works of art first:
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Set (PHP300 or USD 7.5)
The Hunger Games Set (PHP300 or USD 7.5)
The Perks Collection (PHP300 or USD 7.5)
Those definitely caught your eye, huh? But while you'll still here and not yet hysterically clicking on the order form over at the Animac site, you shouldn't miss this trivia(l) about the heart and genius behind the art that is the talented Lauren Baldo:
bb: If you were to choose the ghost writer for the story of your life, who would it be and why?
LB: Charles Bukowski, hands down. He's my spirit animal. Plus, he's dead, so he fits the ghost writer category! Kidding aside, if I have to choose someone that's still alive and current, I would have to pick Markus Zusak and/or John Green. They're my fave YA authors and their books have moved me beyond words.
Now, isn't that a good answer? Here's to hoping we'll see CB, MZ and JG sets on Animac soon!
Visit/Follow Animac Art Studio on Tumblr.
bookbed features: Booktique
A bookheaven is a place on earth...
A place where bookstraps, booktees, booksips, bookcouches, bookovers and whole lot more of reading accessories are sold? All the book lovers raise their hands with palms up and cry, "Heaven!" But does this heaven exist on earth? Booktique is more than enough to tell you "Yes, indeed."
Unlike in other Q&As bound to be popularly used in other interviews, bookbed did not sit down with Booktique but still managed to ask about a few things:
bb: How did you come up with Booktique?
Booktique: I wanted to sell books primarily but didn't anymore want to join in the price war. So I told myself I would sell something different - somewhere along the lines of a book accessories boutique There was still no such concept around then so I decided to get on with it, even though my family and friends warned me it might not work. But it turned out that a lot of Pinoys are readers and are interested in the products!
bb: What has been the best thing about having Booktique so far?
Booktique: It has been really enjoyable! I get to know more about books and talk to other readers, too. There's also the fun in conceptualizing and creating new products. For instance, I designed the fabric bookovers and book lockets myself. The bookstraps and bookcouches were inspired by ideas from the States and Japan but were redesigned to fit Pinoy readers' and clients' tastes.
bb: Where is Booktique headed?
Booktique: As of now, we have bookovers, bookends, bookstraps, bookshelves, bookcouches, bookmarks, planners, booktotes, booksips and booktees, so hopefully, Booktique is headed to a place where there will be more products for Pinoy bookworms to enjoy and use!
For all the book junkies out there, here are some of bookbed's choices of top Booktique must-haves:
Booksips (P195)
Bookovers (P250)
Bookends (P595/pair)
The anti-gravity bookshelf by Umbra! (P795; comes with mounting hardware)
And (I almost cried when I saw this!) bookcouches (P1,495)
I mean, how perfect is that - or everything - for all the bookbed mates out there??

Finally got my bookbed tote today! It was supposed to arrive around two weeks ago but the monsoons said no and so the delivery was delayed. No matter! I trust ate Titit and whaddaya know, she never fails! A book came with the package, which made me even happier. Books to read are now up to 11. GASP.
The tote also smells incredibly nice. My sister says it smells like candy but I thought it was more wood-y than anything. Or maybe that’s just me. (You can’t see but I’m actually smiling in the 3rd picture heehee.)
