looking back at certain parts of 999 for something and i'm thinking again about how touched i was by the safe ending seeing junpei, who spends so much of the game largely indifferent to those around him and not above being deceptive to benefit himself, be so distraught by seeing snake about to die in that incinerator that he has to be physically held back so he won't kill himself trying to stop it from happening. i think it's really clear snake's impact (and clover's, of course, and their relationship's) on junpei was very profound, even though it was over such a short period of time. i really wish he had been able to come back in a different game
