you can’t see enjin clearly through the sea of people, only the familiar silhouette waiting at the altar. someone snickers and you tilt your head. because your man is bouncing on his heels. he’s nervous and everything in his body is coiled tightly.

then you take your first step down the aisle. his head lifts and the nervous grin disappears as he stares. “whoa.”

his shoulders hitch.

another step.

his mouth trembles.

by the time you’re halfway down the aisle, he’s covering his face with one hand, laughing once through a broken breath before the laugh dissolves into something shakier.

“oh, c’mon…” he mutters to himself.

too late, because the tears spill anyway. he crouches right there at the altar, elbows on his knees, face hidden in his palms as his shoulders shake. gris in the front row quietly offers him a handkerchief. he waves it away without looking.

“no—no, gimme a second.”

another laugh. another sob.

“you guys…” his voice cracks. “she’s…”

he finally looks up. his cheeks are soaked in tears, but he doesn’t wipe them away.

when you reach him, he stands too fast, nearly stumbling over his own feet. his hands find yours immediately, gripping them like they’re the only steady thing in the room.

“i knew you’d be beautiful,” he whispers, still crying openly now. his thumb brushes over your knuckles. “but i didn’t know it’d hurt.”

his forehead rests against yours.

“i’ve spent my whole life walking into danger without blinking.” a watery laugh escapes him. “and you… you in a wedding dress is what finally takes me out.”

the officiant politely clears their throat. enjin doesn’t even look away from you.

“can we wait another minute?” he smiles through his tears. “i just wanna look at my wife a little longer.”

“It’s okay Zanka, I would have ran away too” you try and comfort the poor boy next to you after hearing about the embarrassing encounter he had with Rudo on the boys first day on The Ground.

Riyo and Enjin were still laughing, the latter doing so a little too loud, that both Zanka and Rudo were looking down and away from their Team Leader. A swift kick had Enjin shooting up a little, glaring across the table for a second before running a hand through his hair as he relaxes into his easy grin.

“Thanks (Y/N)” Zanka mumbles from beside you, giving you a glance before trying to come back from his embarrassment, though a faint blush of red still covers his cheeks.

You hum, smiling over at him. “Besides- I can’t think of some other stories that-“

“Okay!” Enjin almost shouts, returning the kick. “So, (Y/N), you busy today?”

You shake your head, “nope, Boss said I could have a few days off but…” you trail off slightly.

It wasn’t unknown for you to get restless. Being a Cleaner didn’t give you a lot of time for hobbies, and the ones you had usually revolved around work. Your time was either spent training, training younger members, or simply doing paper work. The only real breaks were the parties that were thrown from time to time, but you seem to have missed the most recent one - Rudo’s welcome.

The man across from you hums, leaning on his elbows, chin resting on his hand. “Wanna join us for a mission? Semiu’s got us on one for this afternoon”, he states, tilting his head.

“Yeah?” you lean forward, just as eager.

He nods, “course - you can help us show Rudo what a real Cleaner is”.

It wasn’t long before you and Team Akuta, alongside Gris, Tomme and Follo were shoved into two of the HQ vehicles and sent on your way. Much to the joy of the team, you’d chosen to drive rather then Gris to avoid anyone falling asleep, leaving you, Tomme, Follo, Gris and surprisingly Riyo in one car, while the others travelled with Enjin.

Poor souls.

The job wasn’t that bad: a rogue Trash Beast that had managed to get past a towns wall was causing some trouble. In truth, you didn’t see why such a large Team had been sent out for a simple mission.

“It’s because of what happened last week” Gris supplied when you’d asked. “The Raiders already seem to know we have Rudo”.

Ah- that did cause a problem. “Did they attack HQ?”

“No, but Zanka lead a mission to some abandoned building where they’d reported a Trash Beast. Went to investigate and.. well…”

“(Y/N) come on-“

“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me!”

No one had told you that both Gris AND Zanka had been horrifically hurt last week. Not once did someone decide to mention that you could have gotten home back to HQ and be missing two of your family members.

At least both of them had the decency to look sheepish, while Enjin just stood off to the side holding in a laugh, which wasn’t helping.

“We can sort this out after the Beast is done with” Enjin told you, sliding his arm around your neck and tugging you away from the two men. “Besides- they feel bad enough ya know”.

You huff, crossing your arms, but allowing Enjin to tug you away. “You could have told me too”.

“And ruin the show?- OW!” a hand flying to his side as he side steps a second jab.

Organising the perimeter and who would do what was quick, leaving you on the side to help keep an eye on Rudo. Your Jinki hummed against your wrists, prepared for anything that might come your way.

The Trash Beast was big, bigger than reported at least, towering at least three stories. It seemed to have a knack for attempting to bulldoze into things, mimicking the shape of what you assume must be some animal lost to time now. Four thick legs and an even larger body and head to match, with horns jutting out from the front of its temple.

“I got it!” you hear Riyo shout, her hair flying in a streak of red across the sky as she cuts into the Beasts side attempting to find the point of its Anima.

Zanka follows after quick, Lovely slashing through metal and trash, attempting to dislodge one of the horns.

Rudo, he just seemed to be… looking. For what? You knew his Jinki by now- the gloves he wore on his hands. Thick and worn, branded with a sigil you’d never seen before, and clearly loved dearly for him to have awakened it as his Vital Instrument. What else did he need?

Before you can ask, a shattering bang shakes the ground beneath your feet. Your eyes dart up to find the Beast half submerged into the side of one of the abandoned buildings, concrete and rock trickling at the side of its body as the building starts to tilt from the pressure.

“(Y/N!)”

“I’m on it!”

Your body moved before you’d even realised what was happening. Your wrists thrumbed once, twice, before chains flew from your Jinki: two simple golden bracelets that sat on each wrist. The bands thickening into something similar to a chain, growing stronger as they reached lengths of 5ft, then 10, then 15. The ends sharpened into a form of hook, allowing you to dig into the ground to help slingshot yourself off and up - straight towards Riyo.

She’d started to attack, both her feet pressed against the handle of Ripper, momentum carrying her too fast to stop. You extend an arm, chain flowing through the air until it wrapped around her middle, hooking through the Ripper’s handle, and tugging them both back, avoiding the fall of a concrete slab.

Tugging Riyo off to the side you used your other arm to change direction, using part of the collapsing building to swing around towards where you’d last seen Rudo. You didn’t know if the boy had had time to move, if he wasn’t too distracted with searching for whatever he needed.

“Rudo!” Follo shouted, already running towards the younger boy. Running right into danger. As brave as that boy was - he could be an idiot.

You whip your hand to your neck, pressing your chocker. “Jin, get ready”.

“What?” comes back, crackled, but you don’t have time to explain.

Shooting off one of your chains you pull Follo off the side, using his movement to help him fly in the direction of Enjin, praying the man would be quick, otherwise there would be a serious trip to Alice on the way home.

Twisting your body around you slide the other around Rudo, pulling him towards you rather than out, following the momentum of your own fall. The teenage seems to buffer, hanging almost lifeless before he registers what’s happening, hands flying to grip onto the chains around his waist. “What the-FUCK?!”

Both you and Rudo slam to the left, barely dodging part of the falling building as you skid across the floor, travelling too fast to register where you are until you roll to a stop.

Dust starts to settle around you, the feeling of stone and rock against your back and limbs. A groan from besides you was a good enough sign Rudo was still breathing - not crushed.

“I should have stayed home..” you groan, eyes closed.

Thankfully, Zanka and Enjin had finished off the Trash Beast while you’d pulled the others out of the way. Follo had also been grabbed out of the air, meaning he only had. a few bruises. Ironically, you and Rudo seemed to have the worst time, both sporting some nasty form of road rash on your arms.

“I had it” Rudo complains, sitting next to you. His eyebrows narrowed and mouth pulled into grimace as he looks over at you. “You didn’t have to yank me around like a rag doll”.

You scoff, grinning. “Oh yeah? maybe next time i’ll leave you to be flattened huh?”

He stands, arms crossed. “I wouldn’t have been flattened, dickface”.

Oh yeah, this kid was definitely a younger Enjin if you’d ever seen in. “Would too”.

“Would not”.

“Would too”.

“Would not!”

A hand plants itself on top of Rudo’s head, stopping the boys next outburst in its tracks. Well- at you anyways. A shout of disgust and grumble towards Enjin followed. “Get off would ya!”

“Well, I’d say this was a success!” he grins, looking between everyone.

You hum, still picking dirt out of your arm. “Oh yeah- amazing”.

Sum: Dear Santa and Centralian have been partners since... Forever and will be forevermore... Or at least he thought so. What happens when Centralian isn't growing up as fast as dear is? Isn't adapting to his changing body as easy as he hoped? Is Centralian still his loyal vital instrument... Or is it just getting in his way?

Breakfast went on as usual, guita talking everyone's ears off, dear grunting and grumbling through conversation, a few words he could pronounce here and there.

After, Dear was getting ready to head to canvas town, a quick solo mission to get a few supplies, requested by you, of course. Turns out painting a nursery uses more paint than you and Bro initially thought.

As you fuss over dear, adjusting his oxygen bag, and checking his small emergncy kit, dear's mind was elsewhere. His fingers rubbed at Centralian's silicone nipple again. He supposed it was about time for him to put it back in his mouth, after all, one never knows the dangers lurking on you're own.

A year ago he would have been pushing you away making an "I've got this geeze" face at you,but now? He kinda wished you where coming too. Maybe then he wouldn't have to be in pain with Centralian. But alas, you where far too heavily pregnant to make the trip, and bro and guita had a mission of their own.

As dear popped Centralian in his mouth he winced slightly at the pressure on his back teeth. Man has that been a really pain lately. Growing pains. Pride pains. You look at him, catching the small sound, a mother's ears never miss.

"are you alright D'? Maybe you shouldn't go-maybe next week when Bro has time-!"

Dear shook his head harshly. He's a big boy he can do it. Besides, what baby will wanna live in a half painted nursery? Not his little sibling.

"Ive...got-got...thi-th"

He spoke, having popped Centralian out of his mouth, with conviction and all the ego of a budding young man. You can't help but smile.

"ok dear. I trust you....and it's .." this" not thith."

You modeled for him, showing him the tounge placement. Dear huffs and tries to mimic it-was his pallet always that small-? You have no time to investigate as dear turns and leaves out the door, sensing your mother hen-ning coming.

"I packed you some water and your favorite sandwich! Buy yourself ice cream with the left over money!"

You call out,only getting a grunt in return.but a soft one, like the idea of a sugary treat after the long mission sounded much pleasant.

The road to canvas town was rather smooth. Dear knocking a few would be kidnappers into some walls, one of them actually had candy, who would have thought? 

Anyways, Dear walked through the barrier of the familiar paint splattered town, licking at a giant lollipop, Centralian back in his case. He looked around, searching for-

"Dear!" 

Just then a familiar orange haired teen jumped at him, nearly colliding heads with the freckled faced boy. Dear grunted, In both slight annoyance and fear for his stolen- won - treat. 

"Watch... It... Carrot top-top." 

Remlin stepped back, the insult still hitting even if it was shuddered out. They clutched their chest dramatically... 

"Even without Centralian.. you still drain me..! Speaking of which where is the lil dummy?" 

Dear pulled out the pacifier with an eye roll because duh. Where else would his partner be? In his mouth where he belonged. Why did everyone keep asking about him? Why did they care so much? Because he didn't care. Did they think he was that irresponsible with his forever partner? He was. 

"D.... 

Dear... 

Dear!"  Dear jumped, startled by the sudden shout. He huffed as he looked over at remlin.  "I've been calling your name for a while, are you... Ok?"  Dear nodded vigorously, why wouldn't he be? Such a stupid question. He was fine, all blue skys and pastel rainbows or whatever.  "O... Kay. Anyways what are you here for?  Dear pulled out a sheet of paper, unfolding it and showing it to remlin.  "Do you... Kn-know where....thi-th i-th?"(This is?) Dears words died down slightly as he began to mispronounce some of the words . It was stupid, why was it always those words with the stupid 's'? Remlin though, paid it no mind. Putting a hand underneath their chin. "Hmmm... That's....a very specific paint from a baby line. I know just the place to get it, come on!" Remlin grabbed dear's sleeve, pulling the smaller boy down the road with them. -----------++++++++----------- Heyyyoo! tried to get the second chapter done as fast as I could! Do you guys think where I leave off is odd or is it better to read like this? Also how do y'all feel about the extreme color coding? If you guys want me to bring it back I can! Anyways no chapter tomorrow I've got work I'll try to make something for Monday!

I don't know who needs to hear this, but AO3 was literally built on the idea that people should be able to write what they want without censorship. Writing about rape doesn't mean you support rape. Writing about incest doesn't mean you support incest. Writing about self-harm doesn't mean you support self-harm. Writing about abuse doesn't mean you support abuse. Writing about war doesn't mean you support war. Writing about murder doesn't mean you support murder. It's fiction. It's a story. People use fiction to explore every part of the human experience, including the ugly, disturbing, and uncomfortable parts.

You don't have to like what someone writes. You don't have to read it. You don't even have to respect the story itself. But harassing people because they wrote a fictional story about a concept or ship that you don't approve of is ridiculous. The whole point of AO3 is that people have the freedom to write whatever they want, and other people have the freedom not to read it. It's really that simple.
