Work Family (1x08)
So apparently, this is how Iβm feeling this month π. Iβm feeling a little ambitious this month and I really want to read these books this year, so Iβm gonna get to it before I loose my nerveπ. So whatβs your TBR for March? *books -The Nickel boys by Colson Whitehead -Parable of the Talents by Octavia E. Butler -Seven days in June by Tia Williams ~ #marchtbr #bookloversunite #bookwormsofinstagram #bookingforfun #prettybooks #bibliophilelifestyle #bookshelvesofinstagram #booknerdsunite #bookshelfies #newbookstoread #noshelfcontrol #bookbloggersofig #booklovers #bookworm #alwaysreading #booksofinstagram #bibliophilelife #bookshelves (at Atlanta, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CakWUjWrKRm/?utm_medium=tumblr
Todayβs tasks will include looking for books to read for March β¨. February has been such a good reading month for me . I only read Jade Legacy this month but itβs a 700 page book so that counts as at least two books IMO π. Im still not sure about my next read but Iβve got a few books in mind π. Whatβs on your TBR for March? - #bookloversunite #bookwormsofinstagram #bookingforfun #prettybooks #bibliophilelifestyle #bookshelvesofinstagram #booknerdsunite #bookshelfies #newbookstoread #noshelfcontrol #bookbloggersofig #booklovers #bookworm #alwaysreading #booksofinstagram #bibliophilelife #bookshelves (at Atlanta, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CahkhkVLQNj/?utm_medium=tumblr
Jade Legacy begins with the aftermath of Jade War. In Jade Legacy, Kaul Hilo (Pillar of No Peak) confronts a new reality in which jade is now being commercialized and then weaponized by non-Kekonese in other parts of the world. His sister Shae, the clanβs weather man, is responsible for forecasting the slow war between global superpowers and its effects on Kekon, persuading private businesses and national policies to align with No Peak, and personally disΒmantling the Mountainβs continued advantage over the clan. The next-generation Kauls face their own problems in addition to inheriting their parentsβ battles in Jade Legacy. Kaul Niko (Lan the former Pillars son, and Hiloβs nephew ) questions his birthright as the future Pillar of No Peak and his purpose for wearing jade. Kaul Nikoβs younger brother Ru has to reconcile being born into a powerful Green Bone family with his genetic nonreactivity to jade (he is a βStone Eyeβ like his mother Wen). Their younger sister Jaya has to constantly assert her place among Kekonβs traditionally-male warrior class (although she definitely doesnβt have a problem reminding anyone of her abilities π). There are so many things that I want to say about this book but itβs one of those books that you have to experience for yourself. Jade Legacy is HEAVY on the politics, so if you arenβt into fantasy that focuses on political maneuvering and scheming, then youβve been warned π. One thing that I appreciated the most about this book was how the reader has the opportunity to see each characters growth from the first book, Jade City. For example, Hilo (my favorite π) was a hot head , ready to fight anyone at any time but as his role in the Clan changed and he became a husband and father you get to see his compassionate side. I could go on and on yβall π. I absolutely loved this trilogy, however I recommend the audiobook for Jade War, (the second book in the trilogy) only because itβs extremely heavy on politics and it can get a little hard to follow at times, but it is definitely worth the time and the narrator is excellent ππΎ. Have you read this trilogy yet? If so, Let me know what you thought about this gem . βπΎ (at Atlanta, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CaaGYGlLfPT/?utm_medium=tumblr

Ladies and gentlemen you are looking at my February TBR . If I read anything else this month it will be a miracle lol π. This book is a chunky one however, Iβm anticipating finishing up with the last book in the green bone saga. Itβs gonna be bitter sweet, but I have no doubt that I will be blown away π₯°. Jade War Synopsis: π¨SPOILERS !! Okay, so there are more than a few characters in Jade War however, the Kaul family is the POV for the reader. The story picks back up in the city of Janloon, the Mountain and No Peak clans have announced a public truce while each secretly tries to undermine the other for control of the city and their nation of Kekon, the only source of the jade. The only problem now is, jade is being smuggled both inside and outside the country at that threatens the clansβ mutual control over the Jade. Hilo, the former Horn (chief enforcer) of the No Peak clan, struggles to handle the politics of his new role as Pillar(clan leader). He finds the role of the Pillar to be at times mundane and he definitely lacks the patience that Lan had (his late brother and former Pillar) to deal with the political maneuvering. Shae, the clanβs Weather Man (chief advisor), is very efficient in her new role but lacks the clanβs complete trust; sheβs also trying to juggled clan responsibilities and her personal life, which includes a romance with a college professor. Shae convinces Hilo to allow their adopted brother Anden to live Jade free and attend school in Espenia where he will not be in any danger (in Janloon his life will constantly be threatened, because he is apart of the Kaul family and he does not want to live as a greenbone).Hilo is very upset and embarrassed by Andenβs decision to not live as a greenbone (soldier/fighter). Wen, Hiloβs wife is immune to Jade because she is an βStone eyeβ. She, secretly supports the No Peak clan through her own work as a spy. Jade War is full of character building and political maneuvering and I loved it. The reader gets to basically see inside the minds of the Kaul family. Iβm totally invested in this story yβall, Jade City is a wonderful introduction to this world but, but Jade War delves deeper into the minds and motives of each character. I LOVED , LOVED, LOVED this book! Now itβs on to the last and final book in this series Jade Legacy!!!! Happy reading bookstagram βοΈπΏ. (at Atlanta, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZaMNBrPHsm/?utm_medium=tumblr
Iβm in recovery yβall, I just finished reading Jade War and I just barely made it through π. Ms. Fonda Lee knows how to write a cliffhanger honey! Iβm going to post a review for Jade War but Iβm still taking this world in π€ͺ. So much has happened that Iβm going to need to brace myself for the last book in this trilogy, Jade Legacy π. Hey bookstagram! Guess what?!? I received my first ARC yβall π(advanced readers copy)! I was so excited to receive The Magnolia Palace by Fiona David from @dutton books, so I want to send a major shout out to them for sending me a copy! Okay so letβs get into this synopsis yβall ! The Magnolia Palace is a historical fiction (murder mystery). Twenty-one-year-old Lillian Carter's life has completely fallen apart. Itβs been eight months since losing her mother in the Spanish flu outbreak of 1919 and for the past six years she has been living under the moniker Angelica. Lillian was once one of the most sought-after artists' models in New York City. But with her mother gone, a grieving Lillian is struggling mentally and desperate, not to mention that work has dried up. Soon she stumbles upon an employment opportunity at the Frick mansion and Lillian jumps at the chance. However, the longer she works as a private secretary for the demanding Helen Frick, the daughter and heiress of industrialist and art patron Henry Clay Frick, the more her life gets intertwined with the Frick family. She is pulled into tangled webs of romantic trysts, stolen jewels, and family drama that runs so deep that the stakes may be life or death. Fast forward fifty years, an English model Veronica Weber has her own chance to make a career for herself and earn money to support her family back home- within the walls of the former Frick residence, now converted into one of New York City's most impressive museums. However, when she and a art curator named Joshua is dismissed from a Vogue shoot, she chances upon a series of hidden messages in the museum, messages that will lead her and Joshua on a hunt that could not only solve Veronica's financial woes, but could finally reveal the truth behind a decades-old murder in the infamous Frick family. This book is available for purchase today at your local bookstore and book sellers ! Again, thank you to @dutton and happy reading bookstagram ! - #DuttonPartner #bookingforfun (at Atlanta, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/bookingforfun/p/CZKol_rvhay/?utm_medium=tumblr
Okay these covers are definitely giving grief and sorrow ππ. I came across the bookstagram darling A little life by Hanya Yanagihara at a discount book store so I snagged it immediately π. Iβve read pretty good reviews on a little life so Iβm eager to see what the hype is all about . As for To Paradise, I picked it up on my last Target run and Iβm not really clear on the synopsis, but the cover is pretty intriguing donβt you think π€π? However I do know that the story is being told in different timelines set in 1893, 1993, and 2093 and the same names are used for (very different) characters in each story π. Iβve heard that Yanagiharaβs writing style is really beautiful and unique so Iβm really excited to see if Iβm going to enjoying these books. Have you read anything by Hanya Yanagihara ? Let me know in the comments below ππΎ Have a happy Thursday bookstagram βοΈπΏπ€. (at Atlanta, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CY9W6NJrP6I/?utm_medium=tumblr
Iβm baaaacckk πππΎ. I started Jade War Last week and Iβm so happy to be back in this world yβall. Fonda Lee is masterful at character development ππΎ. Iβm on chapter 7, hopefully I can finish up with Jade war this week and start on the last and final book in the trilogy Jade Legacy π€πΎ!!!!! What are you reading this week? See ya bookstagram βοΈπΏβπΎ. ~ #bookstagram#booklover#fictionbooks#bookshelf#whatareyoureading https://www.instagram.com/bookingforfun/p/CY4GfA3LMKq/?utm_medium=tumblr
βOn my honor, my life , and my Jadeβ. Yaassss baby ππΏπ! Okay let me collect myself! Jade City by Fonda Lee is the first book in the Green Bone saga. Jade City is set in Janloon, the capital city of Kekon. Jade is mostly mined and traded in Kekon. There are two clans β No Peak, run by the Kaul family, and Mountain, run by the Ayt family. There is a rivalry between these clans and both are on the brink of war with each other . The the magic system is so unique in this novel. People who use jade gain heightened abilities; speed, strength, and perceptions of peopleβs auras. However, the Kekonese are the only people that safely use jade. The Green Bone can use jade after proper training at the academy, and even then they must build up a tolerance to it. Some people are immune to jade completely and therefore are able to mine it and handle it safely. However , there are others who are not immune, and if they come into contact with jade they get a taste for itβs powers and instantly become addicted. They have an insatiable need to have jade and that need slowly drives them insane. There are more than a few POVs but the main ones are of the No Peak clan, the Kaul family - Lan( Pillar, leader of the family ), Hilo (Horn- fighter;leader of the fist), Shae (sister to Lan and Hilo and so much more π), and their cousin, Anden who is in the academy, training to be a greenbone. There are many layers to this story and magic system so Iβm going to stop here out of fear that I will say wayyy too much! Fonda Lee did her thing with Jade City yβall ! Iβm totally invested, I have my favorites and definitely some characters that I loathe, so now I must find out what happens in Jade War (second book in the saga). I feel like I may suffer in the end but I know itβs gonna be worth it π. Ah yes, Brandon Sanderson. I have given in and jumped on the Sanderson train π. Iβm actually going to read Mistborn before I begin this huge epic fantasy. Iβve heard so much about these four books and the cosmere so Iβm excited and a little intimidated (TBH π³π). These books are massive, so itβll be a while before I finish up with these cinder block sized books π§±! Do you have any books on your TBR that you are intimidated by? Let me know in comments ππΎ Have a happy Sunday bookstagram βοΈπΏ. https://www.instagram.com/p/CYhBxGALol-/?utm_medium=tumblr
Okay so I know what some of you are thinking π€. I know I said that I couldnβt see myself reading Dune, but the book art got me yβall π€‘π. I know, I Know, but what can I say, Iβm a sucker for a beautiful book (and I got it for 50% off Barnes and Noble sale sooo π€·πΎββοΈ). How about you ? Does the the book art sometimes influence your interest in a book? Let me know in the comments . Happy Friday bookstagram βοΈπΏ. https://www.instagram.com/p/CYb4L19rMHy/?utm_medium=tumblr
I had to post this throwback pic of my bookshelves from last yearπ» ( looking at this picture is making me kind of miss my room being decorated this way π₯Ί). I used to love taking pictures of my books spines in because it was so aesthetically pleasing to me but now Iβm like, donβt nobody got time for that π. How do you decorate your shelves? I didnβt even bother with a January TBR. If youβre lookin for me , Iβll be somewhere with my nose in one of these books π. The FOMO is real with this trilogy, so I absolutely have to read these books ASAP! Quick synopsis: Jade is essentially the life source in the fictional island of Kekon. It has been mined, traded, stolen, and even killed for . Green Bone warriors like the Kaul family have used it to enhance their magical abilities and defend the island from foreign invasion. When a powerful new drug emerges that lets anyone (even foreigners) use jade, the tension between the Kauls and the rival Ayt family erupts into all out violence. The outcome of this clan war will determine the fate of all Green Bones and the island of Kekon. Iβll probably be reading these books well into February, because Jade legacy is CHUNKY baby ! What are you read in January? Let me know in the comments ! Happy Reading πβοΈ. (at Atlanta, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CYP02FQLbpU/?utm_medium=tumblr
