So my idea for this module is to make a rustic looking book. This is because the images that I wish to use in the book were taken at Crazy Eights bar where I work and the bar is a very rustic looking place. It looks quite old and most things are made of wood, metal or tiles. To make the book match this look, I want to take a photo of the bar top and use it as the front and back cover. The bar top is made of a metal which gets water marks left on it really easily, therefore has loads of scratches, water marks and imprints from the bottom of glasses left on it. The pages wont be neat. Instead of cutting the pages with scissors or a guillotine, I want to rip them, so I will use the folding backwards and forward technique to weaken the page so that the rips will be straight. This way, the pages will all be the same size but the edges will be a bit more scruffy. From the lectures, the most enjoyable technique we did for me was the Japanese stitching. So I wish to use this technique but do a different style so that the binding is kind of a grip for the book. I think that the thread that we used in the lecture would be too thin for this so I would want to use a thicker string, like the one people use in school that is a bit like a miniature rope. I think this would add to the rustic look of the book anyway as it would look more hand made/ built (like building a cocktail). I also want to maybe spray it with some alcohol and citrus so it feels and smells like it has been behind the bar for a while. I think that all of these things will make the book look and feel older than it actually is. I also want the book to be quite small so its pocket sized because I want it to be a little thing that you can just pick up and flip open and be easy to carry.
