A/N This is my first time writing and this is just a draft of a Dunk fic I've been thinking about doing, just wanted to post what I have so far to see if people are interested. I am open to criticism! Again, this is just the opening of a draft so it's no where near done. Thank you!
When I go on a walk I expect things to run pretty smoothly. I expect my dog to stay on the leash, walking beside me while I listen to my music. and then I get to go home and have a nice shower before sitting and enjoying trash reality tv in my room. Beau seems to be against that today. Scratch that, he seems against it everyday.
Beau is the type of dog who loves to run around in a field, but for some reason hates to go on walks. I tried everything, I tried walking him in the mornings when it's cooler, in the evenings when it's darker, I bought him shoes in case the rocks were bothering him, and I even bring treats to bribe him! But no, with all of that done he just refuses to walk for an hour.
Some days are better, but today he just keeps tugging and yanking and dragging behind! This little stand off we got going on right now is really starting to annoy me.
âYou gotta move some time today.â I stand with my hand on my hip, other arm extended out towards him as he pulls back on his leash.
âI got plans and it doesnât involve this.â I give another little pull and he reluctantly starts moving again. I sigh, If I can just get him to the end of the trail, we can turn around and heâll be more than happy to run ahead of me. At least he hasnât tried to slip out of his collar again, I'd never find him.
I'm longing to return home because it's too hot to be outside at the moment. Beauâs head perks up, and he stops in the middle of the pathway, tripping me in the process
âOw! Why do that?â He gives absolutely no indication that heâs even heard me, just continues to look ahead at something I cannot see. Honestly, it's probably just a squirrel but I don't care right now. I walk ahead anyway hoping if I start moving it gives him indication to do the same. And we are back to square one with him refusing to go.
I let out a sigh and grabbed my phone to check our time. I'm way too hungry to deal with this. Suddenly Beau ducks his head, slips out of his collar, and runs off!
âBEAU! Shit- NO!â I rush after him, this trail is marshy and disgusting, and I don't want to have to give him a bath when we make it home.
He is deep into the marsh where I can't see him. I try to look over the brushes but heâs nowhere.
âUh oh, I hope heâs just trying to find another way home,â I suck it up anyway just in case and head into the mush, calling out for Beau, shaking my treat bag. I cringe as I step through the gross soggy marsh.
âThese shoes are definitely being thrown out.â I think to myself. I call for Beau again, not watching my step at all hoping to see him. A root catches on my foot, my head is heading straight into the marsh and I black out.
