The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson

Its October 28th, 2019 and I started reading The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson and my first thoughts on this book are mostly good ones. I've read about 25 pages which isn't very much, but I've been super sick and not able to concentrate so I am feeling good about this book because it's been able to hold my attention through my sickness. But anyway, I've learned mostly about Eleanor and her life. I find it's interesting how Eleanor is portrayed as someone who is running away from the people in her life. It also seems as if she doesn't want to go to Hill House as she makes many stops on her way to Hill House and specifically states many times that she's trying to delay her arrival to Hill House. I hope to learn more about her character in depth as I feel like she may be able to have a large character arc. So far I am really enjoying this book and hope the pace picks up just a tad.

Book Review: Crier's War by Nina Varela

It is October 27th, 2019 and I have officially finished Crier's War! This book for me was honestly a great read in terms of world building and history. I feel as though the types of characters shown in this book are so diverse it helps create a world that is unique. I also appreciated how the author included past excerpts from people's diaries that explain the history of the world and I felt as though that helped with not having too much filler or dead space in chapters when explaining the past. But, with all the love I had for this story there was also the things I thought hurt this story. I felt as though the pace of the story definitely hurt my love for this book. I felt as though nothing was happening except learning that humans are treated poorly for the first seventy five percent of this story. As the story moves along the entire climax of the story felt as though it was in only one chapter. There was also many new aspects introduced in the very last chapter that seemed rushed as if the author was trying to push them into the story at the last minute and could've possibly waited until the next book to portray them. Ultimately I loved this book on many levels even with the aspects that pushed me to feel as though this story was very slow. I give this book a 3.25/5 stars.

Crier’s War by Nina Varela

Started reading Crier’s War on October 22, 2019. By October 25, 2019 I have read 279 pages. My first thoughts on this book were how complicated the world building was and if I would be able to keep all the parts of the world in order. The more I read the more understanding I was and enjoying all the characters and their problems. At this point in the book a big plot twist has occurred in which Ayla finds someone she was not prepared to meet. I do believe this book is moving slower than I would like, but I believe the next part of the story will have a big impact on the pace of the story.
