Papyrus pls come home i miss u
this legit made me stop believing in knight papyrus
Also one reason why The Girl wields a sword when Susie's signature weapon is an ax may be because in Chapter 5, the white pen of hope becomes Susie's sword from the prophecy. We know there's a section dedicated to the white pen and it's themed like a torii gate/shrine, so maybe by the end of the chapter she'll have picked up that pen since she has the courage and hope to make her own version of the prophecy. She won't let the prophesized ending happen, and she'll use the pen to do it
ohhh I just remembered a thought I had last night that made me physically ill that also I think convinced me of dessknight maybe harder than any other evidence I've seen
dess told noelle she wanted to take her somewhere like cyber city
and we know the knight made this world
and noelle says this all while spelling out december. in the world that the knight made. like she's trying to tell her I'm here. I took you to the city just like I promised. I'm going to start screaming
So like wouldn’t it be FUCKED up if the Knight WAS Dess necromanced but ONLY by the dark world. Guys what if what Susie implied before she made the Titan WAS true and she just did that because it hit home. Guys what if she really DOES just become a dead body every time a fountain is sealed. Guys what if Carol is the one dragging Dess’s body everywhere every time to revive her precious daughter into yet another dark world.
What if Dess, panicking as the Fun Gang were about to seal the final fountain, hid in the dark world equivalent of that door Kris only twists the doorknob to and does nothing else(because they’re in on it with Carol and the Knight, so they know. They know that all they would find behind that door would be a corpse), knowing that she was imminently about to fall back into the gaping maw of death, never quite sure if this would be her last time conscious.
What if your mom just COULDN’T let you rest peacefully and HAD to preserve you. And now you’re scared. Scared to go back to being dead because it’s terrifying from an alive perspective. And that need to keep doing your thing as the Knight is only fuelled by this and you being necromanced with the very PURPOSE of being that.
What if you became an unwilling pawn in the very plan that sought to bring you back definitely. What if you felt like you had no choice.
What if you felt like your choices didn’t matter.
So if the player is the one whose soul is being caged by Kris, what happened to Kris's original soul?
Part of me thinks it's got something to do with whatever Asgore did to ruin his relationship with Toriel, and what he had to do for the sake of his family. In Undertale he's the one who kept up the barrier and Toriel calls out that he could've just used ONE human soul instead of letting any more children die. I think that in Deltarune, in order to fulfill the prophecy he may have let Kris be a sacrifice in order to force them into fulfilling the Cage role. Their original soul left either when they were killed on purpose or died in an accident, and Asgore may have purposefully not helped them in order for the prophecy to claim Kris as the Cage.
Toriel may not know the full extent of what Asgore did, but may have divorced him because the trauma of him letting their child get hurt/killed, or maybe even trying to convince her to LET Kris die in whatever event happened horrified her so much that she refused to hear him out and left him. Though if that were the case, I wonder why she'd let Asgore be around Kris at all...she may be trying to reassure Kris that everything's fine if they don't remember exactly what happened to cause the separation.
And if this is the case, then where is Kris's original soul? Is it in the golden flower in Asgore's shop? Did it get lost or discarded by Kris? Maybe their childhood desire to be a monster like their loved ones led to them ripping out their soul (something monsters don't have) and wound up dying, since they/humans can't go on for too long without one.
Kris's struggles, esp when Chapter 3's Dark World and Tenna highlight the trauma from their childhood and desire to be in a happy family, can parallel a lot of real world experiences. I think Kris ripping out their soul COULD represent a child self harming, and Asgore and Toriel's split occurred because of how differently they responded to it.
“Guys I swear sometime in the festival there is going to be a thing where Sans offers to take the group’s picture (kris, Susie, and Noelle) and like theres going to be this bit where he doesn’t give the photo back and keeps it, and it’s going to be the same one from the lab in the basement from hit game Undertale, and it’s going to be his only memory of home, I swear, PLEASE I SWEAR IT WILL-“ I say before being dragged back into the white padded room.
In addition to being forced to be a cage for the SOUL, I can imagine that Kris might also dislike that they have a SOUL because they're the only human in town. Potentially they may have never met another human before, and we already know that when they were little they wanted to be a monster. So them pretending to rip out their heart when they were little and chasing Noelle, and them potentially ripping out and caging their own SOUL before we started playing Deltarune might have been a way they coped with not being a monster
Which makes it even more fucked up that now, their main role in the prophecy highlights them just being a cage for a SOUL. Identity and the roles we're locked into is a major theme of Deltarune, and Kris being literally trapped and defined by being human is probably hell for them on multiple levels
