I know this is a take a lot of people have had but I'm so tired for the purity culture happening in comic fandom rn 😮💨
It's mostly on sites like TikTok where a lot of recycled drama happened that old heads have already had a dozen times but what are we talking about 'they would never say that' in fanfic? Yeah no shit. It's why they has to write it themselves lmao.
Theres a lot if hate for 'fandom tim', 'fandom Jason', 'fandom Dick', while failing to realize you can have conversations about a character involving canon runs and also enjoy hyperbolic character traits in fiction.
Tim being a sad boy™ in a fic or Dick being a flirt™ in a HC doesn't instantly erase any of their complexities from the comic. If anything I find this take about comic book characters to be especially silly considering how consistently a character can change.
Unlike manga, characters are handed off, have different writers, artist, get featured in stories and eventually they will act majorly out of character or do something you can't see them doing because of a plot point or a writer who has a very different take on a specific character. Two people might have wildly different opinions on the same character depending on who's comics they've read or what runs they've been exposed to so your glorious goat is someone else's most hated man. Fan fiction is not your enemy and it's certainly not going to corrupt a characters image. Maybe instead of complaining about how a character is written in fan made media you can start writing your own media about them that's more your taste.
Youll never guess what happened
I had to argue with an alt-right comic book fan today that Batman was not pro-cop pro-gun. No I am not kidding. He thinks the new Matt Fraction Batman run is too woke because Bruce calls out police brutality.
Ill forever mourn the Bruce Wayne clone from the Failsafe story line. I was genuinely so excited when we learned who he was because there was so much potential for a story there, I mean imagine Bruce taking in a kid who is literally him except this time around he gets to grow up in a family, he has a guiding hand on wrong vs right and the difference between vengeance and justice. We could have had such a meaningful nature vs nurture story where Bruce quite literally gets to heal his inner child by taking care of himself and this version of him being able to let go in a way that Bruce was never able to.
Only for DC to say fuck it and insta kill him an issue later. How do you fumble this badly? DO YOU NOT SEE THE NARRATIVE RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU!
Bruce Wayne clone you'll always be famous to me 💔

Gen V prediction:
Cypher is Godolkin. Things we know about Cypher: he. Has no V in his blood but he has the power to possess other people's bodies. He also doesn't show much emotion or pain because, to quote Jordan "hes in pain all the time"
We know Godolkin is the burnt body Cypher is taking care of but I think that's his actual body. Cypher knew Jordan and Kate where in his house because he claimed to have seen them on camera but it would make sense if instead he'd just actually seen them and so Cyphers body (the body he's currently puppeting) knew they had broken into his house.
It also makes sense why Cypher is in pain as he's actually a burn victim and probably is in so much pain that additional input doesn't bother him much and is even maybe enjoyable? Because it's SOMETHING. (I.e. sage slapping him)
It also makes sense why he'd be the science they saw because he's just continuing his project from years ago and perhaps managed to inject his own stable version of V before the accident and save himself from the fire.
Not to mention Sage made eye contact with Godolkin not Cypher while they fucked, plus Sage is smart I imagine someone like Godolkin would be attractive to her in terms of power since he's the one who wants the fittest to survive so they would have a common goal in terms of taking over things and someone who was smart like her would be more exciting then someone like say, the deep lol.
Current Batman #1 thoughts.
First off, I knew everyone was over reacting to the prievew thinking Bruce wouldn't give Waylon a chance. I think Bruces mindset and the entire first issue itself is highlighting the extremely lonely and rough place Bruce is in currently. He's lost basically everything and only just started to come back from it. We're seeing a Bruce that I imagine is in a space that's sort of similar to when Dick first left that begs the question "what do I do now?"
Sure he has Tim but considering this run is focusing on Tim as well I wouldn't even be surprised if we got a surprise separation (finally) of Tim expressing wanting to do his own thing. (Hopefully, DC let that man go)
That being said Bruce is used to being isolationist and with Alfred gone and most his kids out he's basically stuck choosing the life he's been living or making a change and with this entire story being certained around a 'do people change?' and 'metamorphosis' theme (as shown by Waylon, blind bag quotes, and butterfly imagery) I really think Fraction might do something big for Bruce's character which will be so refreshing to see. I'm pleased with the comic and I'm super excited for next months issue. I'll remain catsiously optimistic considering this is DC and we all know that tends to mean disregard cannon but I think this is a solid start and that this could (possibly) shake Batman up into a less stagnant place story wise.
