Academic publishing is a nightmare. Basically scientists pay most journals to publish their data / paper (and also sign away our rights in the process).

Scientists get nothing from that moneywise. Neither do their colleagues who peer-review the articles before publishing. Basically all the money vanishes into the publisher. (Biggest of them Elsevier, hence more and more universities etc. boycotting this atrocity of a publisher.)

But! When you email us, we are always allowed to send a copy of the article! And happy to do so, cause Holly somebody actually want to read my work.
