I think this might be the most beautiful meme I've ever seen. I just spent five minutes extolling all its virtues to my husband:
It doesn't even mention Julius Caesar or the Ides of March.
It's from a very different segment of the play
It's not even the famous part of that segment that everyone knows by heart
The "I'm just sayin'" attitude of all the Seinfeldians in the screenshot (although if memory serves, what they're actually saying is, "not that there's anything wrong with that")
It just comes at the whole situation in such an oblique fashion
I don't think I've ever seen an Ides of March meme do anything like this before
I love it and I love you for bringing it to me.
Enjoy the Olympics tomorrow, and good luck to the Norwegian beach volleyball team 😉
And yet there are those who doubt him and question how he gets around the entire world in one night…

the timeless mantra of long-distance friendships:
It's so funny to me that Mary Shelley, her husband, John Polidori, and Lord Byron had a competition to see who could write the best horror story and she wrote fucking Frankenstein. Imagine losing a competition that badly. Imagine just doing a silly little competition with your friend and she basically invents a new genre and creates one of the most famous characters in fiction. Imagine being proud of your little story and then she shares one that people will still read every day in 200 years. Imagine doing a writing competition with your wife and she becomes so recognizable that you'll always be known as Mary Shelley's husband
"This will cure your writer's block" - she said
"I promise it's very healing" - she said

Detectives say the key to tracking down the source of the kites was a large wall map covered in thumbtacks and string. 'It's the first time that method has ever actually worked,' said a spokesperson.

in defense of the panera founder who said this. he was trying to say the idea that employers are motivated by this. is dumb as shit.
It'd be like that sometimes
You know what kills me about the anti-trans/terf cult? They sling around that BS study that says that around 50% of trans women in prisons in the US, the EU, and Canada were convicted of violent sexual offenses. You know how many trans women are in any given prison? 100, 200 at the most. You're telling me that I should want the extermination of millions of trans people all over the world because 50-99 of them committed a crime? Sounds like Naziism to me!
It's pretty difficult to find definitive statistics on prison SA for any gender, so on the one hand I just think those "studies" are probably lying.
From what I could find, the SA statistics were kinda high, even for cis women. So I think the real story here is "prisons are an environment where SA is prevalent" which reflects poorly on the carceral state, not on a specific demographic
But also, to your original point, yes. It's wildly absurd to call for the genocide of an entire group people, just because a mere handful of them have committed serious crimes.
If that were a reasonable response, white, christian men would be in serious trouble.
And then there are the numbers. The percentage of trans people in prison is actually much lower than the percentage of trans people in general. I actually looked this up a few years ago when the BBC posted an article about this. So I’m using British numbers from 2017.
The numbers and screenshots come from this BBC article:
Reality Check looks at claims around transgender prisoners and their convictions.
At the time there were 92949 prisoners in total in Great Britain, of those 142 were trans.
Northern Ireland at the time had no trans prisoners, and I do not know how many prisoners they had total, so we’re just focusing on the big island.
So with 125 trans prisoners on 92949 prisoners total, we’re looking at 0.23% of Scottish inmates, 0% of northern Irish inmates and 0.15% of the inmate population of England and Wales, or 0.15% of Great Britain.
At the time trans people were estimated to be between 0.3% and 0.76% of the UK population at the time. If we take the lower number, that means that trans person is 50% less likely to be a criminal than the rest of the population. If we take the big number that becomes 5 times less likely.
This then means that the higher number of sex offenders the article references is completely negated by the low likelihood of trans people committing crimes. If we go with the low estimation of trans in the population. Then trans people are thus exactly as likely as the rest of the population to be arrested for sex offenses. Not more, not less. If we go with the high estimate, than trans people are 2.5 times less likely to be arrested for sex offenses than anyone else.
It’s so unfair i don’t get to see where evolution will go in 50 million years
