Been yelling for decades that showing up to vote every four years is NOT gonna get better candidates. The fascists are winning because they put the fucking work in BETWEEN elections while everyone else pats themselves on the back because "Well I voted for the Black man, the White woman, and the Black and Indian woman, all of whom are slightly less hard right wing than the GOP and only support SOME genocide, so clearly I've done my part."

Meanwhile the fash out there openly announcing they are raising their kids since the 1950s for the specific purpose of having them infiltrate and take over the military, the police, and every public office from dogcatcher on up to force theocracy on the world.

Oh, and while they worked to get anyone who would get them one inch closer to ANY of their goals, they convinced non-right-wingers that their votes didn't matter, or that they were hypocrites unless they only supported perfect candidates who aligned with every single one of their goals, or that refusing to vote was somehow an effective protest--the end effect of all was to discourage people from participating in democracy at all.

(No really--as a little kid in the 1960s I'd hear the grown-ups loudly talking after church about their multi-generational plan.)

At this point the US might not HAVE real elections for a while.

*cracking up* Okay, here’s the problem, is I was mad at that guy, and now that I’m doing an impression of him I kinda think he’s adorable and I like him. I like him now. It’s a very unique way to defuse my own road rage. I don’t know what kind of mental illness I have, but it’s fun.

I've been thinking about this video non-stop for months, but do you know what just occurred to me? This is actually a great example of mindfulness, expression, and self-modulation.

Instead of bottling it or lashing out, he took the time to stop in a quiet place to process an upsetting event. He validated his anger, and stated he felt his needs were going unmet. He then humanized the person who upset him, and considered their intentions. He then found perspective on the event and his own emotions. This then genuinely calmed him down.

Those are all therapy skills being used in real time! Which, like, I don't think people talk about enough. Part of the human experience is getting angry about stupid things. Feelings can't be permanently bottled or unleashed full force on the spot. You need to process it, and take the time to see the bigger picture.
