This was a great workshop I attended yesterday run by the ladies of Mztek - complete with home-made cakes.  A great introduction to electronics, Arduino and Processing which opens up a whole new world of creative possibilities.  My head is buzzing with ideas - exciting stuff.

...and the finished piece. 26 QR codes, one for each letter of the alphabet arranged in the style of a qwerty keyboard.  Only thing left to do now is to decide on the best way of displaying it - whether to mount and frame - or something a bit different.

This is a work in progress piece I'm making to enter for a textile QR code exhibition called QR-3D http://qr-3d.weebly.com/ as part of Manchester Science festival.  There is some brilliant work which can be found on their flickr site http://www.flickr.com/groups/qr-3d/pool/with/5976287773/

I've already entered my crochet QR code which links to this blog, but I also wanted to enter something a bit more creative.  So, this is a geeky take on the traditional cross-stich alphabet sampler.  Each QR code is a letter of the alphabet arranged in the qwerty keyboard layout.  I hope to have the final piece finished in around a couple of weeks, but progress is quite slow as it takes around 2 hours to stitch each code.

Each code does work, but not with all scanners.  I find i-nigma to be the most consistent.

First two QR codes made for the Equivalent VIII piece - six more to go.  The sugar cubes are stuck to 6mm MDF board with PVA glue and seem to be quite solid at the moment but time will tell.  I stored the earlier (see previous post) sugar cube piece in my Art Shed and its now starting to disintegrate due to the damp - luckily it was only a test piece.

I've still got the white border to build up on the smaller piece as each "tile" will measure 560mm square or 31 x 31 sugar cubes, calculating to 961 cubes per tile and resulting in 7688 overall... a lot of boxes of sugar.
