Alright y’all, which Miser Brother is your favourite
Team Snow Miser
Team Heat Miser
That Principle Pankley guy better be glad he exists in a timeline where Karen doesn’t exist because she would NOT tolerate him doing that to Frosty and would kick his ass.
"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964) says if you're different society will only want/love you if you're USEFUL."
Well okay maybe that's true, and maybe that's reflective of real life (especially under capitalism).
But, I want you to think about this.
Clarice not only still loved Rudolph when he took of that thingy to hide his glowing nose, she said she preferred him like that. She liked him better when he was himself. His glowing nose was not useful to her, in fact, she got in trouble with her father for associating with him because of it. But she still loved Rudolph, glowing nose and all. Not in spite of, just, it's there and a part of him and she loves all of him.
Hermey still loved Rudolph and became his closest friend, red nose and all, even when it put them in DANGER by attracting the Bumble. Rudolph's nose was not only not useful to Hermey, it was threatening their safety. And he still remained Rudolph's friend, he still loved him. And it wasn't in spite of his red nose, it was just there, a part of him. And Hermey accepted and cared about and loved all parts of him.
The same goes for Yukon, again, Rudolph's nose was not USEFUL to him, he still became Rudolph's friend anyway. I'm not repeating what I said before because this is totally getting redundant.
THE ISLAND OF MISFIT TOYS ACCEPTED AND WELCOMED HIM AND LET HIM STAY FOR A LITTLE WHILE AND HIS NOSE WAS NOT USEFUL TO THEM.
And WHO does Rudolph still stay friends with at the end of the movie? Who does he kiss under the mistletoe and (from my memory of watching this every Christmas I'll correct myself if I'm wrong when I watch it this year) WHO does he spend his time with MOST at the Christmas party. I'm PRETTY SURE it was his FRIENDS. And he STILL helped the island of misfit toys too. Even though he was "accepted" by everyone else he still favored his friends who accepted him first and unconditionally. EVEN IF it is true that greater society will only accept you and your differences if you are USEFUL to them, it does not mean you will ONLY be accepted by others if you're useful. For all we know the others went back to bullying him the VERY NEXT DAY. But Rudolph's true friends? As always, they stayed. There are people in this world who will love you unconditionally even if you are not useful to them, even if there are parts of you that would be seen by others as a "inconvenience" or a "danger" to them. You are worth sticking around for to them. You simply have to find them, maybe even leave your current circle and meet new people. But somewhere in the world you will find your people and those are the people who want to keep around.
So to me there are two messages in Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer intended or not and honestly I feel like both together combined paint a pretty realistic picture of the world.
The more I think about this movie the more I actually love it and find it quite heartwarming.
I only found out a few weeks ago (last month? Idk time is an illusion) that the animated The Last Unicorn was a Rankin/Bass movie (I thought it was by Ghibili or Toei or something originally)
And I found out last week the OG Thundercats was also made by Rankin/Bass
That is bonkers and I love it.
Blot Out the Sun, Let Everlasting Winter Begin!
Meet Buddy from Newfoundland, my Rankin/Bass universe oc
first fan character i ever made for this universe.
He's from an idea for a series i thought of late one night between christmas day and new years its called
The Miser Brothers vs Buddy From Newfoundland
here's the basic plot summery:
Buddy is from Newfoundland and is absolutely fed up with the unpredictable and extreme weather. One day it snows in the middle of june, the next its hot enough that a little bit of friction can cause multiple wildfires, dont get him started on the winds. when he finds out that this is the result of the Miser Brothers not only fighting over his home, but using it as grounds for experiments, he goes out to confront them, bringing chaos to his life, as is the case when you mess with the supernatural forces and forces of nature.
so yeah this idiot is confronting what's essientally elemental weather deities, but doesnt have the balls to ask the stylist for a proper masculine haircut
Fun Facts about Buddy:
he was raised by his Nan
his Nan knitted the pink scarf he always wears, he even wears it indoors, he'd shower with it on if he could
he likes chocolate chai and chamomile tea blended
when he was a kid his favorite season was winter, he'd never admit it but it still is.
he's got a cousin he's really close with, or was, long ago.
he used to perform, he doesnt do it anymore.
he's really sweet, but also kinda mean.
he will start to get cocky the second something goes good for him.
thats all for now
