I love mindscape psychological torture fics, even more if its a vengeful spirit doing it, but I've gotten strangely fascinated by a subversion: an entity trapping a human being into an illusion world because it loves them.
How sad, to see this mortal suffer due to conditions beyond their reach. Heartwrenching. The best solution would be erasing everything bad that happened to them and manipulate their reality so they'll always have a good day, right? That'll be enough. This way, the human will certainly love this spirit back.
...But what right does it have to change the human's life like this, against their consentment? To remove their memories? To separate them from their real life connections? If the human discovers the farce, they'll be enraged and will try to find a way to get their old life back, despite all its flaws. But the spirit cannot understand why they'd choose that. Can their real life companions and experiences absolve all the hurt they've gone through? Aren't the fake improved versions of them enough? Wouldn't the human prefer to be happy?
In the end, does this spirit actually like this human or is it possessive of them?
