Media Type: Book/Movie Title: The Boy with the Cuckoo-Clock Heart/Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart Author: Mathias Malzieu Rating: PG-16/13 Warnings: There is some violence in the movie and book (blood), but only the book has allusions to some naughty bits.  Summary: Little Jack was born on the coldest day of the year, and his heart was discovered to be frozen solid by the midwife. Using her magic-like skills, she saves his life by grafting a cuckoo clock into his circulatory system. With his new heart in place, Jack lives life and finds that love is dangerous for him. Whenever he feels the strong emotions of amour, his heart's clock hands spin 'round and 'round, providing a very good visual representation of how his actual heart would have reacted.

Notes: The book and movie follow the same basic plotline, but have different endings (sorry, no spoilers!). The story is good, overall, but loses a bit of its magical touch by the end as it rushes to finish. A very good read/watch. Try it out!

Novel in which Main Character Has a Heartbeat Fetish

Media Type: Movie  Title: The Wolverine (2013)  Rating: PG-13 (action violence, mild sexuality) Summary: The Wolverine is a film about the X-Men superhero Logan (The Wolverine), a mutant with super-healing powers and a skeleton and claws of Adamantium metal. In this movie he finds himself in Japan saying goodbye to a man whose life he once saved and ends up entangled in some dangerous affairs. Notes: I'm just gonna straight up tell you the scenes to look out for, so BEWARE OF SPOILERS: An elderly man's heart is shown beating on a screen, with an EKG beeping in the background throughout the scene. Later, another character's heart is shown on the screen, and the character actually cuts himself open and forces his own hand inside his chest to reach his beating heart. This is also shown on the x-ray screen! Also, in another part of the movie, a character mentions the fate of another's heart in a grave, gory warning. Anyway, it's really great for cardiophiles, especially those who like gory surgical kinds of situations and medical settings with live x-rays and such.

Media Type: Movie Title: Cloud Atlas (2012) Rating: R (Sexuality, nudity, violence) Warnings: Character suicide Summary: Cloud Atlas is a film that spans many different time periods and tells six separate stories. Each actor in the ensemble cast plays multiple characters across the stories, transcending genders, races, and ages. Notes: The futuristic story "An Orison of Sonmi-451" is the one of interest for cardiophiles here. There are multiple earstething scenes and heartbeat references. There is also another lovely heartbeat reference in one of Frobisher's letters to Sixsmith (which takes place in another story). Besides these scenes, it's a fantastic movie overall so definitely give it a try! I haven't read the book of the same name that it is based on yet, so I can't confirm that it has the same references.

Ahh if I remember correctly - you hear it very clearly when they take him into the resistance hospital immediately after being blown up in the minefield; you see it while he is hanging, chained up, being interrogated with his chest still blown open; and you see/hear it again when he is in the water, surrendering under John Connor’s gun.

Summary: HeartDecide is an app about the human heart that includes a detailed 3D model of the heart that can be cut open two different ways and manipulated however you want on your phone or tablet. The best part? It beats the whole time you're examining it. Watch valves open and close, heartstrings tug, chambers contract and expand. There is also a whole collection of videos and information about heart diseases/dysfunctions and treatments. Very educational, and, of course, loads of fun for cardiophiles to watch and play with.
