The sun peeked its way through the curtains, casting a soft golden glow across the bedroom. You were curled up against Andrew’s side, your head resting comfortably against his chest. His arm was wrapped securely around you, keeping you tucked against him as the steady rhythm of his heartbeat filled your ears.
The soft pitter-patter of little feet approaching the bed made your eyes flutter open.
You looked over to find a pair of big, bright hazel eyes staring up at you sweetly. Your three-year-old stood beside the bed, his little hands gripping the edge of the blankets.
“Hi, Mama,” he giggled softly.
A sleepy smile spread across your face as you reached down and gently cupped his chubby cheeks.
“Good morning, my sweet baby.”
He grinned before lifting his arms toward you, You couldn’t help but smile as you reached down and lifted him onto the bed, settling him carefully between you and Andrew.
Your son immediately curled into your side, his little head resting against your shoulder.
“Did you sleep good?” you whispered.
“Daddy’s still sleep.” he whispered, glancing over at Andrew.
Andrew was still peacefully asleep, his messy curls falling across his forehead.
Your son’s small hands reached over and gently cupped Andrew’s face.
Andrew stirred, letting out a quiet, sleepy groan before slowly opening his eyes.
“Mornin’, buddy,” he mumbled, his voice raspy with sleep.
Your son immediately broke into a huge grin.
Andrew smiled as he reached for him, pulling his little boy against his chest.
Your son giggled as Andrew peppered a few gentle kisses across his cheek, making him squirm and laugh.
“No, that nuff dada!” he squealed through his laughter.
You watched them with a soft smile, your heart feeling impossibly full.
Andrew looked over at you, his sleepy smile growing as he reached out and pulled you closer. His arm wrapped around both you and your son, bringing the three of you together beneath the warm blankets.
“There,” he murmured. “That’s better.”
You rested your head against his shoulder while your son snuggled happily between you both.
Andrew pressed a gentle kiss to the top of your head.
“Hmm?” You glanced up at him.
Andrew looked down at the two of you.
“I don’t think I’ll ever get used to waking up to this.”
“You.” He said running his thumb over your cheek.
Then he looked down at your son.
He smiled before pressing a tender kiss to the top of your son’s head.
“Thank you,” he whispered.
“For what, Andrew?” you asked softly, placing your hand over his.
“For making me the luckiest man in the world. For giving me everything I’ve ever wanted but never deserved.”
“Andrew…” you whispered, tears prickling at the corners of your eyes.
You reached up and gently held his face between your hands, pulling him closer until your lips met in a soft kiss.
When you pulled away, you rested your forehead against his.
“I love you, both. More than anything.”
Andrew said leaning over and pressing one last gentle kiss to your forehead.
“My kiss?” your son questioned, his little voice breaking the tender moment.
You and Andrew both laughed.
“Of course, baby.” You said.
The two of you turned toward your son, pulling him into your arms and peppering his cheeks with kisses until he squealed with laughter.
He giggled, trying to hide his face beneath the blankets.
Andrew laughed before scooping him up into his arms.
Your son squealed as Andrew playfully lifted him into the air.
He carried your son toward the bedroom door, your little boy giggling as he wrapped his arms around his father’s neck.
You followed behind them, smiling as you watched the two people you loved most disappear down the hallway.
Andrew glanced back at you with a grin.
“Yeah mama, you comin?” Your son repeated looking over Andrew’s shoulder at you with a grin.
“I’m coming! I’m coming!” you giggled shaking your head.
