âI do not want to cry. I want to be a poet. I want to look at the words with a dry and unswollen face.â
â Heather Christle, from The Crying Book
Summer Nights - Robert Adams
What is there left to say?               What have I left to destroy?        If this is all I can bear               then Iâll look up at the blue swell of sky, close this body, this glittering body that is mine,        breathe again. Ask to sleep.
â Tamara Jobe, from âConjugal,â Hag
âItâs a dark pain, this urge of wanting;â

august goals:
heal from relationships that went wrong
be happy about small victories
smile more
say nice thoughts about people out loud
begin a small project that I will work on every day of the month
stop thinking in an âall or nothingâ way
some babely bassists that inspire me

âI dream of moor, and misty hill, where evening closes dark and chill; for, lone, among the mountains cold, lie those that I have loved of old.â

Since Iâm not seeing her name nearly enough on the press, letâs give the attention Katie Bouman deserves. Thanks to her, we are now possible to see the first ever image of a black hole, something that people talked 200 years ago for the first time. Itâs no longer a myth. We are girls and we can be whatever we want to be. Einstein would be proud of you, Katie. Thank you!
Here you can see a huge stack of hard drives she used for Messier 87âs black hole image data.

Since the beginning of her career, Georgia OâKeeffe has been made the subject of critical and cultural discourse about women who make art. In the mid-1920s, she became increasingly hostile to relentless gendering and spoke out against her Freudian critics. Hoping to find a woman who might write about her art more perceptively than the male critics, O'Keeffe wrote to Mabel Dodge Luhan saying:
âI thought you could write something about me that men can'tâWhat I want written⊠I do not knowâI have no definite idea of what it should beâbut a woman who has lived many things and who sees lines and colors as an expression of livingâmight say something that a man can'tâI feel there is something unexplored about woman that only a woman can exploreâMen have done all they can do about it.â
