While I hardly needed the aid of a magic shop to charm my way through life’s obstacles, I’d never been one to shy away from the world’s other sources of enchantment. I’ve seen this store in passing, but hadn’t bothered to venture inside..but today, something else caught my attention; or a someone, rather. While I’m typically attracted to bare-skinned, more innocent-looking beauties, I couldn’t deny that the tattooed counter girl possessed a certain something that drew me to her. I peer through the window, immediately struck with the awareness that she is not human..so of course I’m automatically intrigued. I know that scent..it is the aroma a witch carries; and what a perfect disguise, I thought..that she would spend her days surrounded by the tools undoubtedly useful to her craft. The door swings open, and russet orbs behind aviator shades scale my surroundings, inspecting the mysterious objects as my senses are roused by potions and powders. I’ve startled her with my deft, silent approach..but it seems that she’s got things covered for a cleanup. I lower the shades from my eyes, folding them into my shirt as a smile rises upon rounded tiers. “Didn’t mean to scare you, darling.” What a lovely accent..seems that she is not fluent in English, but I find it rather endearing. “I’m Adam.” I recite with a pitch to my voice, “This is actually my first time in a place like this..I was wondering if you carry any history books of the sort. Something more genuine that one can’t find in a library.” All those books pin witches as evil and cruel, but I assume these accusations are made due to the fear of their power; humans always feel the need to control the wild, tame the different.. And it’s no wonder that the good ones in the bunch are nearly extinct.

It’s quite obvious by the slight scowl on her face that she is not all that happy with his ability to sneak up on her however she is trying her best to remain friendly; money must be made and it couldn’t be made by being rude to or alienating her potential customers; after so long without proper socialization Joanna still struggled with that aspect of life. She is quite curious about how he managed to enter the store so soundlessly but she most likely won’t ask him; most of her customers aside from the regulars come and go without her ever seeing them again so she didn’t make much of an attempt to get to know them. The only regulars were the many witches that called the city and, more often, swamps of New Orleans home; he was clearly not one of her kind and didn’t take a careful inspection to conclude that much. She tried to keep an eye on him as she cleaned up the mess on the counter; she did not yet trust him. Stevie was still sleeping peacefully in the window and that was a good sign; if he were bad the feline would be hissing at him so she assumed she probably didn’t need to be intimidated by him. The question caused her to think before answering. “There be first time for everything, I be right? Better one time of trying than forever of not knowing.” She questioned in response before moving away from the counter and approaching him cautiously so she could lead him towards the book section near the back of the store. “What do you seek history on? There be many types. Everything has history.” That was a pretty vague answer and she would need more to go on. “I assume history of craft. There also be history of uses for magic, history of practice like tarot, crystals, scrying...It just depend what you want to know.” It was the best answer she could give him. Pale, tattooed fingers ran over a few of the books. “Start here...this be best I think. I go make more coffee.”
