BIGBANG - LAST DANCE 

[Song Appreciation Post] 

This is a song appreciation post for the KINGS OF KPOP! BIGBANG! Being the first male kpop group to be invited in one of America’s biggest stages, Coachella Festival 2020!

  “Love that I thought would last forever has set to end.” 

With all the controversies of some members appeared after their tour promotions, leading up to their mandatory military enlistment, and losing one member, this was the song they dedicated to their fans to say their goodbyes with their long hiatus. Some fans questioned the group whether they’d be still performing after one member left or would disband but this year 2020, the group made an announcement of being part of the lineup for Coachella Festival 2020! 

“The world goes around just fine without me. I’m still young, I’m still immature. Why am I such a fool?”

The lyrics were written by some of the members themselves. It was already a heart-wrenching moment for the VIPs after the song starts off with just a piano accompaniment and finishes with TOP’s verse describing the group’s every shining moment with their fans. The melody of the chorus, honestly, is what really got me, simple yet very emotional and it just touches your heart. 

“As I sing this song to you, I will return to you. If only I could see the beautiful you again. I will listen to this song with you and dance for the last time. Remember this moment. Just one last dance.”

I would like to take this opportunity to appreciate an artistic masterpiece. A minimalist take on a deeply complicated song that is, Instagram. Black and white all throughout with art leaking through the wall while him, simply sitting on a chair, expressing himself with profound lyrics: 

“These days knowing more makes you more miserable. As time goes by it gets harder. Am I the only one like this?”

 “There’s a hole in my heart nothing can fill it up. I’m sinking right now inside a square ocean.”

Somehow with the given beat of the song it feels like a bop, a song you feel like dancing to, but it mixes in well with the minor chords used. Kudos to DEAN for spitting out truthful lyrics and bringing out an amazing arrangement to a song.

Kintsugi (golden joinery) or Kintsukuroi (golden repair) is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. As a philosophy it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.
