My Position

From watching the recent presentations, the one that stood out was the presentation about college tuition. Before hearing the presentation, I already had my own  opinion of this topic. I was on the side that was for college tuition being free because I didn't fully understand the basics of it. I was just apart of the hype that people created talking about the change, us college students were going to face. I wanted to believe that tuition would be free just because. I didnt analyze what that would mean for us college students, but I just knew nothing would just be free.

The tuition presentation stood out to me because the presenter actually sounded like he knew what he was talking about. The information sounded legit and the evidence also. For example, I was informed that this is in position for certain households income. Meaning that this is only considered good news if your household makes a certain amount. The presenter then explained that this is basically another factor that will still allow students to still be paying for tuition for the upcoming fall semester. I actually figured out what this deal was throughout the presentation.  I also didn't feel like I was being lectured.

What made the presentation strong was the way the presenter went about conveying the message to the audience. He asked questions that we could actually answer. For example he asked who is paying out of pocket for college and why we chose buffalo state. He made connections from his questions towards his actual position in his presentation. This helps create actual emotion from the audience. The audience was able to connect with him because not only are we all in college we all are familiar with the expenses that come with college. We all are going through the same things.

I was able to form a similar position of the presenter argument. I believe that we all should come together to help with this extreme expenses that come with college. I also formed an agreement with the idea of finding authorities that are way higher than students that could help. People who have a higher voice and position then us are way more efficient to be able to get people to hear and help out. When the presenter offered that idea I believe it got the audience to agree because we all want the vision of having a change come forward.

Play Your Role

Since we’ve been discussing gender, identity and representation in classes I’ve come to a realization. There are always going to be gender roles between the two sexes. I believe the problem is how we as people go about it. We are feeding into the stereotypes on a daily basis. It’s how we’ve been raised to be accustomed to it. I realize this issue more when gender roles are being discussed. There are many rules that are created that we’ve been grown to follow just because of this thing called “gender roles”. Us people have created a practice to follow so that you can be actually considered the gender you were born with. We’ve made these rules to prove something that doesn’t even need to be proven. For example, if a male or female doesn’t do a certain thing they won’t be considered enough or they won’t fulfill up the standards of that gender. These “rules” are just adding onto the pressure of everyday life. Not only do we have to behave a certain way, we have to make sure we are leaving up to a stereotype. All this also relates to identify and representation of the genders. With these rules, we have to maintain a certain identity to present yourself to others the “correct way”.

On the of the examples I see often was shown in one of the readings “The Rule” by Alison Bechdel. In the reading one of the female made it a rule to basically watch a movie where two women in the film are discussing anything besides men. This connects with representation and gender roles. In society women are looked down upon or were viewed to always have our world surrounded about men. The discussion that took place over this point led to the question are there any movies or many movies where there are two females who are conversing about anything besides the men species. This was difficult to figure out but it came to a realization that this is just a part of how women are portrayed to be. We all can relate because we are aware of our gender and the rules that we all face with one another. Everyone judges someone and we all include the gender with that judging. We’ve all done it because it’s taught to us through so many different fields. For examples, social media, society etc. Continuing to do this is what is making it worse but were just too blind to the issue.

I chose this topic about sex and love, because It was something I believe a lot of student could relate to. Having a lot of students who can relate would call for a lot of opinions to flow out easily. I also vote for this topic because it can be branched out to various topics that would be considered accurate for a discussion. For examples, relationships, gender roles, and self-worth. Having a topic like this would help build an actual discussion that would hold worth. Discussions like this are worthy because this audience are able to understand and take something away after experiencing it.

Rode to soft lips 👄

Living in Buffalo, the air is dry 💨 and your lips suffer tremendously. They become chapped, sometimes covered in crusty and flaky dead 💀 skin. Admit it, you’ve tried to peel it or biting it off, which only made it worse. Now your lips are bleeding, sore and raw and soon they will be crusty again🤷🏽‍♀️. I once was plagued with the same problem until I found a super easy chemical free solution…a DIY Lip Scrub🙂.

Here’s the list of simple ingredients you will need to complete this exfoliating scrub

· Brown Sugar (or white sugar works fine)

· Extra virgin olive oil (or coconut oil)

· Pure Honey 🍯

· A small drop of vanilla extract or peppermint extract… or any extract you desire (because it smells yummy😋)

· Small container to store scrub

Here’s what you do….

Add 1 cup of sugar and 1 tablespoon olive oil in a small bowl. Mix until the two ingredients has come together. (Be careful when adding the oil, your mixture should not be watery. If it is, you have added too much oil, so you have to add more sugar to even it out until it has the consistency of wet sand. Just beware that by adding more sugar means you have to add more of all of the other ingredients.) Add in 1 tablespoon of pure honey, and your drop of essential oil. Mix your mixture until the wet sand texture is present. Finally, add the mixture to your small container. (This scrub can last up to 2-3 weeks refrigerated)

No more than a quarter size amount should be needed. For extra smoothness, top with your favorite lip balm.

This post was different than others I read. Many others were different. Some were mostly serious. This post was informative and very accurate. I agree the weather in buffalo is very different which calls for our bodies to react differently. I feel that your audience can connect with you. Not only did you give background information but you added suggestions which can help. An audience doesn’t just always want to hear facts thrown at them. Audiences want to hear suggestions and actual stores that are relateable. You did that just in the introduction of your post which was really needed.

Which is better, sex or love? They are both Something we do,  we love, and is also an act we sometimes fear. We all grow up and automatically exercise love and sex. Us humans experiment with them and majority of us fail at one or the other or probably both ate the same time. Sex and love has been around way before human were on this earth but yet we end up toxifying  the meaning them with our opinions, beliefs,and labels. Heterosexuality and homosexuality should be teached in school, we are in the year 2017 if you still cringe at those words you have to grow up at this point we all mature. As well as, figuring out what is normal about these acts, because yes they are very normal.

“There are many reasons for this educational omission, including religious bias and other types of homophobia.” I abhor the fact that Brandon Ambrosino, the author of “Invention of ‘Heterosexuality’” stated this in his article. You shouldn’t just push aside something that was slowly becoming a problem in the world because of religious bias and homophobia. It’s best if the youth be exposed to this topic young, because humans have a history of becoming very inhumane when they come encounter to something they don’t understand. For example, back then they tried to control the people from even having sex. Now fast forward to now,  you can see that they failed. Exposing the youth to the topic of heterosexuality and homosexualilty would not make them magically make them know which gender they want to have sexual behaviors with at the end of the lesson. It will educate them, the human brain is fully developed at age 25. So never the less, it would take up to 25 years for an human to know what is right from wrong as well as, know exactly what they want.

No, HUMANS, put a flaw in everything we seem to touch. At this point it’s clear that humans create destruction on unnecessary things, especially things they know the answer to but are way too in denial. You do not need researchers to know what “causes” homomsexuality are disire, love , and fear. It doesn’t come from a chromosome or a gene it isn’t from nature or nurture either. It’s all from growth and finding out what you like or don’t like. To add on on how destructive we humans can become,  Ambrosino stated, “But at a specific point on in time, humans attached meaning to these instincts. (Sexuality)” sex it’s an activity we act on with on another, animals been doing it way before we came. Animals have also been having same sex behavior. In other words to Ambrosino words,  once we have we slap a label on it and bash the meaning of it, as well as harm the people that can’t control what they grow up to love. Ambrosino mentioned “sexual desires shift throughout time.” I disagree, I believe that desire, love, and fear shifts everything in life. That is what many of us fail to understand about revolution and life.

I believe this is a relevant topic to discuss. Obviously, this topic connects with the young generation. By young generation I mean 18 and up. This topic is also accurate because these are considered normal behavior to kids who are new to the college life. Many students believe that this is the right way to behave therefore they abuse this. This topic is great to discuss because I feel that it will help a lot of the new students to college. Many of us need to understand that this hype we’re involving ourselves with is bad. We need to behave a certain way.

Refugees

Today I want to talk about a big problem that I feel that every single one of us should know about which is getting forced to leave your home country and being a refuge and hoping that some country will accept you and let you live in their land. According to the UNITED NATIONS, An unprecedented 59.5 million people around the world have been forced from home. Among them are nearly 20 million refugees, over half of whom are under the age of 18. This is not the exact percentage and the numbers of people not having a place to live in is getting bigger and bigger. This problem has been on the face of the earth since the world war II and there were many organizations that help to fix this problem like the UNCHR (UN Refuge agency).

I once was forced to leave my country because of terrorism and the very dangerous situation in my country and leaving my country was very hard and living in another country illegally and waiting for another country to accept you and let you live there is very hard. You cannot work or so any activities until you get excepted from another country and this time of period can take from 1 year up to 20 years and you may not get accepted. Living a life where you are denied a nationality and access to basic rights such as education, healthcare, employment and freedom of movement is very hard.  

All of us need to take in consideration and think a lot of times before judging a person that is coming new to the country and most of us say why did they even come here and why don’t they go back to their own countries and the simple answer is they cannot go back because they will get killed. According to UNITED NATION humanitarian needs in Syria have increased significantly since the beginning of the crisis, with 12.2 million people in need of humanitarian assistance, including more than 5.6 million children. Over 220,000 people have been killed and more than 1 million injured since 2010. These numbers have not stopped yet and they are growing bigger and bigger from day to day. Not only in the middle eastern countries but many Africans are moving out from their countries because there are no food or water resources in their countries which can be a human rights disaster. We all should consider the way that these people fight death to move from one country to another, also we should never judge those people because they were not born in that country they just moved to it.

I believe your topic is important. Many of us are blind about this topic because of what is highlighted in the media. This topic does come across but not everyone shows care. I believe that this is a broken record according to what gets displayed in the media. The media talks about this and no change takes place. All you hear is that America is all about equality but there’s so much that proves this to be wrong. If there was equality then this wouldn’t be such a high issue for us to hear about. Many people need to get this out there so that this can be resolved.

Do you believe of an end to gender roles?

There have been many topics that we've discussed in class. One topic that hasn’t been discussed is gender roles. We’ve recently discussed the challenges that women face on a daily basis. The discussion of gender roles were not talked about in depth. I believe this is a topic to bring our attention because there is still general issues in today's society that we relate to. Gender roles are basically a factor that's going to be around for as long as we will exist. I feel that these issues started long ago when women rarely had little to none respect. The first cases of these gender role problems started when men felt superior to women. In past centuries females were always considered at lower levels than men. Women didn’t hold value in society eyes the way that men did. Having this occur began as the first steps to what we consider gender roles. Gender roles are portrayed through various factors in society. For example, jobs, fashion, relationships, hobbies and etc. Because there are many factors gender roles can fall into, there comes many conflicts. As females and males we need to be aware of how this is really tearing us apart.

I see multiple gender roles throughout my generation the most. In this society girls and boys are supposedly already figured out. Boys and girls know the “part” they’re suppose to play. The thing that's irritates me is the fact that we are are suppose to fit into a certain category based on the fact of our gender. Who came up with theses rules that we are meant to follow. The positive thing is that there are multiple people who don’t follow the ideal roles of their gender. For example, girls are subject to play certain sports like tennis, cheerleading and boys are meant to only play basketball or football. In reality there are multiple people who break stereotypes of factor like this. I feel like people don’t pay enough care or thought into the issues we face when dealing with gender roles. If we keep ignoring it and not standing up for it this will be an ongoing issue with no resolvement.

Are You Scared of the Nipples?

Yes, you read the title right. I hope you read the title and asked yourself the question. I don’t know if you realized it but society is terrified of nipples. You would think all nipples would be a part of the equation but no just women nipples. Society has turned this into such a controversy topic throughout social media. One side doesn’t care whether nipples are shown and the other side views it as if it’s the worst thing they’ve ever seen. This topic has got me thinking for a while because I really don’t understand what the big fuss is about. There’s a big group of people who truly despise something they know its naturally there. People act as if nipples were placed on female’s bodies overnight. People are so intimidated by something that is on all humans; males and females. Maybe this is me being biased but nipples are not a big deal for me. They’re just another feature that is placed on my body. Females nipples bother this society so much and I can’t wrap my head around it. People know that its located on our body yet they pretend like it’s some new alien that’s landed on earth.

This topic jumps back to everyone’s favorite friend, double standards. The main area where the nipple talk appears is in the fashion world. That’s because people believe that the human body is art. Which I agree, because everyone’s body in the universe is unique. In the fashion world showcasing the body is common and done frequently done. They say this is fashion and art but when a female is in the cover of a magazine and her nipples are revealed headlines suddenly go crazy. They ask questions, such as did you see so and so’s nipple on the cover of whatever magazine. They never ask questions like that when there’s a male that graces the cover. Why is that? Is that man not showing his nipples for the world to see? Why is it that when a woman does what men do, everyone freaks out? Were we not made the same. Just because we have more cushion on our chest than men doesn’t mean we should get looked down upon. I feel as that the people that shame the females who show their nipples are the people who feel like they would be shame also. All this comes down to people judging in society.

Claudette Colvin : Black History Month

At the age of fifteen, Claudette Colvin refused to move to the back of the bus. She started studying black, independent leaders during grade school and Claudette felt inspired to join the movement and stand up for herself. On March 2, 1955 Claudette sat in the front of the bus. Once the bus driver noticed a white passenger asking her to move, he ordered her to get up and her response  was “It’s my constitutional right to sit here as much as that lady. I paid my fare, it’s my constitutional right.” She described the situation as if it felt like “Sojourner Truth was pushing down on one shoulder and Harriet Tubman was pushing down on the other—saying, ‘Sit down girl!’.” Claudette stood her grounds. This situation did not discourage Miss. Colvin, actually encouraged her to stand up more for herself and African Americans. Shortly after she challenged the law multiple times, she was arrested and thrown into jail. During her jail sentence she explained how scared she was to be in prison, mostly because she was always unaware of what white people would do to her. The NAACP was considering using this case in court but they ruled against it because of her age and her troubled behavior. She was pregnant at the time and they decided an unwed mother would attract too much negative attention to the case. Claudette was one of the four women involved in protesting the segregation laws in court, Browder vs Gayle. Browder vs Gayle ruled that the bus system in Montgomery, Alabama was unconstitutional. Two years after the ruling, Claudette moved to New York City where she became a nurses aid in an Manhattan nursing home. Although she is not known worldwide, she helped advance civil rights movements in Montgomery, Alabama. Her attorney from court explains how she gave the city hope and moral courage. He also explains how she helped to shape the support Rosa Parks received in the future. 

Why is it most people know about Rosa Parks but not Claudette Colvin? Miss. Colvin’s bus situation happened before Rosa Parks and she was not the first to refuse but typically you do not hear about these women. Due to the fact that Rosa Parks inspired herself to become a better icon during this movement. Rosa was also the secretary of the National Association of the Advancement of Colored People. Miss. Parks was already well known and extremely respected by her peers. Miss. Colvin’s experience happened nine months prior to Miss. Parks situation. Claudette story received little publicity unlike Rosa Parks.

I was really informed about your post. If it wasn’t for your post I believe many of us including myself would have not known about Claudette Colvin. You showcased the comparison between the two very well. The way you started off your post was also good. You allowed the audience to believe that you were speaking of Rosa Parks. I don’t know if that was on purpose or not but I think it allowed the readers to be engaged into your post. I feel like throughout all the black history month posts I read this one stands out because of the similar movements of these historical figures.

My Week

So I am going to tell you guys about my weekly life.  Lets start with school.  Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday I get to drive a 60 mile round-trip to school and back.  This would be horrible but luckily I like to drive.  I have four classes and know a total of about 5 people  ( Perks of commuting, you don’t meet anybody).  Tuesday and Wednesdays I get to relax and decide whether I should wait until the morning to start the large sum of homework I had acquired.  I have a horrible problem with procrastination as you can tell by this post.  Usually I find myself driving to ridiculous places to buy something just because like Thursday I drove to barker (2 hours away) for a speaker but that’s another story.  Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday I work from four to about midnight at a local pizza place.  We have good food but the people are usually drunk and miserable that I deliver to.  I work for a flat rate of thirty dollars a night, two dollars for each delivery and tips.  I get the whole “ Oh that two dollars is your tip” almost every single night.  This statement usually follows with horrible service from me and very heavy sarcasm as I try to explain.  Driving all night doesn’t bother me.  I could Care less about the mileage and gas.  As long as I have a decent stereo and fresh music, I’m pretty much set for the night.  With delivering I get to throw away every workers garbage, refill all of the pop that we had sold throughout the day from a cold shed around back and make hundreds upon hundreds of boxes before I get to go home.  I stop delivering at 10:30 but most nights I get home about 12:30.  The job is horrible but the money isn’t too bad.  Gotta pay the bills, right?  Well that concludes my amazing weekly life, it isn’t perfect but its mine.  I hope it was riveting enough to keep you reading.  Three stars for you, person who read my whole story.

I truly enjoyed reading your post. I feel like this isn’t a post the common student wouldn’t comment on but this stood out to me. Reading this I could feel the realness you were writing. Most would probably say that you gave personal information but that’s what makes this admirable. I felt as the reader or audience I was listening to a conversation, rather than reading it. Malcolm X

The start of February, when black history month starts. Year after year we remember the importance of some people and events in our history. It is not just a regular month it is a month where we celebrate our African-American history and celebrate an equal country that all races in it are equal. Today I want to talk about one of my favorite leaders, which is Malcolm X. Every time I hear someone talking about black history month his name comes in my head. It is very important to remember the memory of the great people who wanted a better nation. A great man and a great leader that made a big difference to the African-Americans as well as the nation. I feel like every one of us should know him exactly like they know their friends and family because of the importance things he did for the rights of African-Americans. He was born on May 19, 1925, his father died when he was six, and his mother got placed in a mental hospital when he was thirteen. His teacher told him that he should become a carpenter instead of a lawyer. That was the start of becoming a drug dealer and a street hustler. Also, that was the start of a path that leads him to jail. At the age of 20, he went to prison for larceny (a crime involving the unlawful taking of the personal property of another person or business). We should all think of how hard can life be if our dad died and our mom get placed in a mental hospital and on top of that living in jail for a couple of years. Dead father, mental mom, and prison did not stop Malcolm x from living his life and becoming a great person. He got out of jail and became a great leader. Malcolm x was a great man who fought for the rights of blacks in a country that use to be full of hate and racism against the black race. I do not think any of us can have his strength and will be able to recover and be a better person like he did, especially after all of what happened to him. He spoke everywhere for African-American rights. Furthermore, he was a member of free drug rehabilitation program. This program gave physical and mental treatments. This program focused on treatments against alcohol, prescription drugs, and street drugs such as cocaine, heroin or any other types of drugs. Then he was the founder of The Organization of Afro-American Unity (OAAU). This organization had a great purpose which was, fighting for African-American rights. He died on February 21, 1965.

Your text was informative but I felt like it was rushed. The topic was based around picking a historical figure that the audience would not be aware of. I admire the way you chose Malcolm X. You explained why he’s a significant factor for black history month. You also started your post with credibility to the audience. You introduced the concept of black history month in general. You doing this draws the audience in because we understand what were about to read. The only issue is you didn’t fully explained how Malcolm achieved his accomplishments in life, that made him who he is.

Analyzing Sojourner Truth's "Ain't I a Woman?”rhetorically

Sojourner Truth’s “Ain’t I a Woman? 

Sojourner Truth is talk about women having the same right as men because even as slave women were less of the men. In the text she repeat the words "Ain’t I a Woman?”  Because she tell her audiences that she a women but that doesn’t mean she can’t do the jobs man can do. The reason why this piece is important? Is because till this day men always say because your women.

Women get anger even in this century where every dream is allowed to be achieved but because we are women we are downgraded image how fearful she was in 1850 because she was a women. She says “Then they talk about this thing in the head; what’s this they call it? [Intellect, somebody whispers] That’s it, honey. What’s that got to do with women’s rights” men always have this mindset that they’re way smarter than women because women aren’t like them but being smarter and trying to have the same right as men isn’t the same. They are men who aren’t as intellect as us women but he the same right as any other men

She then says “Then that little man in black there, he says women can’t have as much rights as men, cause Christ wasn’t a woman! Where did your Christ come from? Where did your Christ come from? From God and a woman! Man had nothing to do with Him”, what this quote is saying is that men arent born without a women but they want to disgrace us even though we the one who brought them to life. If a women loses a child she the one who goes through the most grief because a man know he can produce again but while a women chose “him” to grow inside of her day and night. . Whether they are born or dead is choice a women makes. Since their mother made the decision to keep them, I guess it wasn’t a smart decision to keep them since women aren’t as intelligent as them.

She also says that “I could work as much and eat as much as a man- when I could get it- and bear the lash as well!”  The quote means that we women aren’t different than men because god create as human (the same species) the only difference is that we have different genitals if a men and women and get a cut in the same place they will both bleed and feel the same pain. So if a women and men have the same dream they should both have a chance to be treated the same way and achieve the same thing without looking at our gender.

To see that women right didn’t change as much as Sojourner Truth wanted but at least we now allowed to pick and choose our dreams thanks to women like Sojourner Truth. To have this read in the 21 century and still feel the same as she did in 1850 is amazing and a digress because all her hard work is still being treated as nothing .

As a reader, this was informative. I didn’t feel as if you were repeating the poem to us readers. You didn’t summarize truth’s views. Instead you analyzed her point. Reading your analysis allowed me to understand Truth’s opinion. Throughout your text, you focused on the actual point and didn’t get carried away. Another thing you did was analyze and explain. The quotes that were used had relevance to the topic. You chose the most important quotes that would allow the reader to be engaged into Truth’s mindset. As a writer that’s your job to do, in order to engage the reader you have to be credible.

A Hidden Figure

As we all know the month of February is typically used to celebrate black history. Now when black history month comes about we all think of the most known figures. For example, Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks, etc. Many people tend to ignore other important figures through this months and further. So many of us are not informed of other figures that also hold significance, such as Katherine Johnson. Katherine is an important figure that many don’t know about. I relate with the people who didn’t know she even existed. Her name recently gain value to me over a recent movie about her and two other females. I chose her people just like how i wanted to inform you , I also wanted to inform myself. Most people don’t know she's known for being an African American physicist and mathematician who provided contributions to the United States aeronautics and space programs. The significance of this is that early application of digital electronic computers at NASA were used.

Johnson being born White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia held a lot of intelligence. She attended high school, which was located on the campus of West Virginia state college. In later years she ended up enrolling herself into college. This is where she began to prosper more. Here in college is where she met her mentor, professor W.W. Schieffelin Claytor. Claytor was the third African-American to earn a PhD in mathematics. This helped Katherine graduate with high honors that further allowed her to have a job teaching a black public school in Virginia. After teaching for a while, Katherine ended up being a offered a spot a the flag school at West Virginia University. She and two other males were the first black students to be offered this opportunity. She later ending up enrolling into the graduate math program. Dorothy Vaughan which was apart of the committee for Aeronautics assigned what would be johnson permanent career, a position of the project in the Maneuver Loads Branch of the Flight Research Division. Katherines is most known for the work she helped with the orbital flight. Johnson was called to help with the calculations with the computers. She was asked to run the same numbers from the equations that were programed  in the computer that the astronauts needed. She had to do this by hand using her mechanical calculating machine. This huge accomplishment lated for years and she is still alive today to tell this story. She also was awarded by President Obama with America's highest civilian honor, the Presidential medal of Freedom.

Ain’t I a Woman

Sojourner Truth “Ain’t I a Woman”, is a statement that spoke for women rights. “Ain’t I a Woman” was a phrase that asked society about their views of woman rights. It was a writing piece that could be considered as defense against people, specifically men who didn’t respect the rights for women. Sojourner Truth uses a sarcastic/humor to allow her intended audience to question their beliefs.

Sojourner holds credibility for her claims. She uses the fact that she is a woman in a questionable manner. For example, she explains when the men say how women should be treated in different ways and she expresses that by stating if this is true why hasn’t she experienced any of this fancy treatment. Her credibility gets question in that section of her letter. The question if she’s a woman shouldn’t she get treated as it says females should.

Truth displays logic by defending the unknown competition between the man and woman. By providing examples, her audience peers into her beliefs vividly. Sojourner allows the audience to see the facts that people are ignoring. The facts such as women equality that is not being presented. She even provides the false statements that are told to her about women rights but then she provides why this is considered wrong. She uses a strong tone to get her point across to the audience. She continues her defense by listing that without women, men wouldn’t even exist. I believe Truth uses that statement to exaggerate how important women rights should be viewed.

Sojourner appeals to the audience throughout her whole letter. She does this so that this writing piece can viewed worth reading. She wants to captivate her audience so that her message gets heard. Truth comes across very strong at the ending of her letter. This is what draws the audience to feel what she’s feeling. She makes sure to end the letter by sarcastically saying thank for hearing me out. Then she goes forth by stating herself as first person and claiming she has nothing more to say.

Truth uses this letter to defend her claim about women rights. She establishes this strong tone throughout her piece to keep her beliefs in tact with her audience. Sojourner compassion is told not by her words alone. But by the tone and examples she gives her intended audience. The men she writes this letter for can fully understand the messages she gives them.

Are we lazy?

Social media is a platform that is used from so many all over the world. This platform has become something that is used for various things. For example, social media can be used for business, school, entertainment etc. Katzeff displays his argument by displaying that social media is literally all that humans have to fall back on. He uses a known social media app, “Facebook”, to reveal his beliefs. Oren Katzeff is regular person who uses social media, just like the person reading this. He understands what happens on a day to day social media app. He understands the rules that come with being on social media. Katzeff is very relatable in this article because people all over the world do the same thing. People are updated with one another’s life all the time using social media. His example when he states that he found out about a close friend welcoming a new baby in his life is what supports his argument. You would think that a close friend would pick up a phone and let you know about such an important moment. Instead information is figured out on social media. Oren starts off the article mentioning his wife’s feature in the food network on Facebook. He tries to take away him being conceited by saying he’s not trying not to boast. Katzeff uses that beginning to take away the fact that the audience will know he’s one of the people that his whole article is surrounding around. He uses a little sarcasm to support the question of asking if people are relying too much on Facebook. He discusses the fact that many people had questioned him asking about his wife being on the show, when he indeed posted it on Facebook. Oren felt as if he was doing himself a favor by posting instead of picking up the phone. This is him showcasing how lazy social media is making people. Oren Katzeff comes off as being hypocritical. All his examples about how people rely on social media can be all turned on him. He does the same in his daily life. For example, he doesn’t inform family/friends about important stages in his life, he feels the need to use social media just because. This article could have been used to expose people of the truth. However, at the end of the article Katzeff claims that maybe his point will be proven after he puts this posts on Facebook. He ends the article with sarcasm to take away the seriousness of the article.     �7���,

New Beginnings

They always say to step out of your comfort zone. But I always believed to not do something that makes you uncomfortable. Ending of high school came around so fast. I felt as if I was just entering as a freshman but now I was leaving as a senior. Who knew that I would have to start all over again. I would begin life being a freshman again. Starting college sounded like a fairytale to me throughout my whole senior year. College was my escape for a whole new lifestyle. I needed a new routine, new environment, new people etc. College didn’t really hit me until the night before of moving day. My nerves were killing me all day. I was creating every bad scenario I could in my head. Everyone was telling me to relax but I didn’t care to believe their words. Their lives weren’t changing, they weren’t up and leaving their home. they weren’t leaving to be 8 hours away from everything they’ve known. I had no one to vent to because all my friends were staying close to home. When moving came along, the nerves were worst. I woke up at 4 in the morning and had to be on the road. Leaving hurt so bad. It didn’t really hit me until we turned onto campus. Everyone looked so happy while I had to fake smiles. Being in college didn’t hit me until my family left out my dorm door. This was it, I was officially a college student. That was a big accomplishment for me. I left my friends and family and started a whole new journey by myself. I stepped out of my comfort zone and now I’m on track with my new journey.
