Hi guys! It’s been a while so I thought I would update the project’s info page to reflect where we’re currently at with the game and it’s prologue! 😄
“What is WTLTS?”
When there's light, there's Shadow is an RPG Maker MV fangame about Shadow and Maria's life on the ARK! It's in very early development, and we are currently working on it’s Prologue: Bright Beginnings, which features Maria as the main character as well as the story of her arrival on the ARK, and how she first met Shadow! 😄
"What does it feature?"
At the moment there's several locations to visit, a semi-original soundtrack though we aim to hopefully make it entirely original! Custom character sprites and portraits, and scene artwork by incredible artists! Though all the tile-sets have been purchased by me, or were free to use. At the moment we have almost finished making a basic set up for the game’s prologue! Once that is finished the team and I will figure out how to best improve and build on it! 😄
"What is the plot?"
WTLTS’s plot is about what Shadow and Maria’s life might’ve been like on the Space Colony ARK prior to the raid! With the prologue focusing on Maria’s arrival, and her eventual meeting and friendship with Shadow! Then Chapter 1 will focus on Shadow’s experience living in the colony a year after his creation! 😄
“How big will the game be?”
I’m not entirely sure as I’m very new to this, but WTLTS will definitely be a multi-chapter story, starting with the Prologue, and ending with the final chapter. (Which will likely show the raid and Maria’s death 🥲) We’re thinking of releasing the game chapter by chapter similar to Deltarune! Although, I’m not quite sure if there’s a way to make the game remember previous choices if we go that route… but I hope it’s possible! Even though I’m new to RPG Maker some of the things I’ve seen other people do with the engine can be extremely impressive!
“When will the game be finished?”
There’s no set release date as we’re a very small team, but we’re hoping to have at least a demo for the prologue out by September for SAGE 2026 (It’s a popular Sonic Fangame showcase website!) And the game will be released on Itch.io! 😄
