Having a 3 month old daughter was a lot like having a timer that went off every few minutes. Aria didn’t need to imagine how her babysitter was doing in the hour since she’d left the house to do some much needed shopping. Emma was not a very loud baby but she was definitely fussy and required 24 hour care, even asleep. Because of this, Aria had been home alone with her daughter for far too long and managed to drain most of her savings. If she was going to start managing at the shop again for more money she was going to have to restock the apartment with food, clothes and baby supplies.
It was there at the mall running on a maximum of 4 hours of sleep and pure determination that Aria was trying to knock down everything on her list. She’d stuffed the bag of baby supplies in a bigger, dark bag with clothes for carrying convenience and was now searching for Bed Bath and Beyond when a man walking nearby caught her eye. He was looking anywhere but the people around him and wearing a hat and sunglasses, as if trying to look inconspicuous. Curious, she was watching the him pass by long enough that he seemed to noticed. But it was the exact moment that the supposed stranger looked directly at her that Aria’s breathe caught in her throat.
She let out a shaky exhale, watching as he seemed to recognize her then as well and came forward. There shouldn’t have been any reason for Hayden to be anywhere but Hollywood and the fact she was seeing him in the same town started to put her on the defensive. He couldn’t possibly have heard about Emma, right? Not even her own father knew. “Hayden…” She greeted, closed off. “What the hell are you doing here?”
Hayden had been at the mall to get some shopping done. Normally he would have just sent his personal assistant to do that sort of thing for him, but the last one he’d hired had up and quit when he moved to Kola. Besides, he figured it would be a good experience for him. It had been a long time since he’d done his own shopping, and thought it was part of trying to adjust to life out of the spotlight of Hollywood.
So he’d put on some dark sunglasses, a baseball cap, and headed to the mall. He definitely needed to buy something nice for his mother and father. He hadn’t been the most reliable person in the past few years, and it had taken a toll on his relationship with them. Hopefully he could make up for it.
While he was doing his best to keep his head down as he walked towards the jewelry store, he passed by somebody who caught his attention. There was no mistaking that face. Granted, it looked much less friendly than it had the last time he’d seen her. But he supposed he shouldn’t be too surprised. Women were often unhappy to see him after he stopped dating them. He wasn’t exactly great boyfriend material.
“Aria” he said in an imitation of her own greeting. Then he shot her a smile. She might have been unhappy to see him, but he was unable to resist being his cocky and charming self. He gestured around him. “Its a mall. I’m here shopping.” Of course he was being sarcastic. He knew she wasn’t asking about him being at the mall, but in the town. He added “I take it you haven’t been reading the tabloids.” His fall from grace and subsequent move had been reported by the paparazzi.
