“Yup,” she said and kept smiling; she rubbed her head some. “Yeah it’s really been long hasn’t it? I’m surprised to see you here, though i guess I shouldn’t. But yeah, it’s me.”

She couldn’t help it; she hugged the girl. The other woman had always been someone Tsuki rather liked; she was smart and kind and even after all the years….

It occurred to her why Kendall seemed so confused and she looked at her, letting go. “Oh right. My powers. It’s probably been way longer for you than me honestly…”

“This is amazing. it must be a little under a decade since the last time I saw you.” Kendall’s not freaking out. Okay, she’s maybe freaking out a little. Can you blame her? Tsuki was someone of her past she honestly didn’t think she’d see again. And now here she is, in Amber Beach.

Kendall was quick to allow the other girl’s embrace, wrapping her own arms tightly around her until she heard the words coming out of her mind. “Wait. Powers? You have powers? How is that---” She cut herself off. “No, this isn’t. This isn’t the place to discuss that, come with me. We can talk somewhere more secure.”

“Who me?” The young woman had been walking around the museum, taking a chance to enjoy herself and see what they had to offer while waiting to find the new team. As the other woman spoke to her she looked at her and blinked, taking a second to think. But it hit her faster than it did Kendall and she smiled brightly.

“Kendall! Is that you? It’s been so long~”

Kendall was overthinking it, pure and simple. In her mind, there was no way that it could be the person she knew it to be. It had been so long, too long really, since she’d seen Tsuki. And the girl seemed as if she hadn’t aged a day. Quickly, though, it hit her; as soon as she heard the voice she knew.

“Tsuki?” she asked, both excited and confused to see her again. “What on Earth? I haven’t seen you since---- and you look so---- it is you, isn’t it?”

A light chuckle escaped the knight’s lips at her response. “I believe it is customary in this time for budding courtships…if that is indeed what this is…to spend time together outside of activities with mutual friends. Would you be opposed to dinner? Tomorrow evening?”

“They do that, yes.” Kendall nodded, a bit too enthusiastically. But well, she was being asked on a date. By her maybe-definitely-crush. It was hard not to be. “I’d love to go to dinner with you, Ivan. Of course I’d love to go to dinner with you.”

“Hey now, Pretty Lady, some of that stuff actually happened,” He teased, keeping the flashdrive just out of her reach for a few moments before he handed it over. “And I know I promised two, but I got distracted re-reading it instead of translating. So, to make up for it there’s a copy of the original on there as well.” 

“I’m sure it did, Heckyl. Accuracy is an important thing in fan-works.” Kendall was teasing now. She couldn’t help it, there was just something so bright about the entire situation that made her feel good. Happy. She smiled at him, soft and honest. “Seriously, I know I’ve said it a couple times now. But this... I never thought I’d get the chance to.... have this. Us mere humans don’t really go into space a lot, you know. Especially not to the places where someone can get something like this.”

“I’m... sorry, have we met before?” Kendall wasn’t sure, but she could swear she’d met the girl before. It was a weird sensation in the back of her mind, because she knew she’d met her. It was just hard to place, maybe because it had been so long ago or because she looked so stunningly familiar.

Ivan understood her reluctance to share her feelings. She hardly interacted with the team on a personal level and the knight considered himself lucky to even get her to smile. “I shan’t make thee repeat thine words but, you should know,” A light smile graced his lips, “I like thee as well, M’lady.”

If Kendall hadn’t been blushing before, she was certainly blushing now. But she was smiling too, a large thing curling her lips that she had to bite down on her lip to keep from outright grinning at the admission. “You do? That’s... good. That’s really good. I’m... I’m glad to hear that.”

“Well then I better get going if I wanna get at least two of them done by tomorrow. Until next time, Pretty Lady.” He waved and walked off.

Heckyl arrived early for his shift the next day, heading down into the base where he was sure Kendall would be waiting. “Here you are,” He held up a flashdrive. “A copy of ‘Separated In Nature’ a thrilling myth from a planet called Touria. It’s about their duality god and how one half causing mischief by being charming, and the other half causes pure chaos in his beastly form.” He smirked, “If it sounds like me and Snide, well…that’s cause it is about us. I’ve visited so many planets in my quest to find the Energems and restore my planet that when I went back, I’d discovered that a few of them thought of me as a god.”

To say that Kendall was speechless when Heckyl presented her with the flashdrive was an understatement. She’d taken him for his word when he’d said he was going to do it, but still. Having something so incredibly rare and precious in her grasp was... beyond words. “Wow, okay. Thank you. I’m not even going to give you any crap about the fact that you’re essentially reading fanfiction about yourself, because I’m incredibly grateful. I’ll read this as soon as possible.”

Ivan felt terrible. Sometimes did didn’t know when to let things drop. Social cues were so much different now and even after nearly a year of being free he still wasn’t used to them. “Again, I am very sorry m’lady. Twas not my intention to make thee uncomfortable I was simply…” He paused, realizing the last thing she had said. “Wait…what was the last thing you said?”

Kendall cleared her throat, trying to keep from internally freaking out at the fact that she really had just said that. Sure, she’d meant to say it, but it was hard not to want to take it back. “Please don’t make me repeat it,” she begged, looking a little terrified though she hoped it wasn’t as bad as her feelings on the matter. “I’m not really good at this... shared communication of feelings thing.”

“Oh it’s no trouble at all. I planned on rereading a few anyway. I think I’ll start with a couple of my favorites. I can have them ready for you tomorrow when I come to work.”

“Tomorrow works perfectly. I’ll be here all day, so you can give them to me whenever’s most convenient for you. If you want, I can stop by when you’re on your break and talk about them a bit? I’d love to hear what you have to say about the planets and culture they come from too. If that's not an issue for you.”

Ivan listened to her words, and then it struck him. This was different than their usual banter. Kendall was truly uncomfortable with this this topic of conversation. He cleared his throat and his smile faded. “My apologies, m’lady…I believe I may have overstepped my bounds over the course of our conversation.” The last thing  the knight wanted was to make her uncomfortable and drive her away.

“No, Ivan. It’s----” She can’t say fine, because the truth is that it isn’t. Kendall’s extremely uncomfortable with the situation, and its entirely obvious in her posture and tone as she speaks with the Knight of Zandar. “Not your fault. Topics such as these are treated differently in your time. Here they’re... well, easier to talk to, but not really any less mortifying when you LIKE the person you’re discussing it with.”

“Oh yes! There are plenty of alien cultures who are big on literature. I went to this one planet around….6,000 years ago, their MOON was a library of every piece of literature ever written on their planet! It was amazing! I wonder if it’s still there….anyway. Just gimme a few days and I’ll bring you copies of what I’ve got.”

“Wow, that sounds.... wow. Really a whole MOON? And, please, take all the time you need. Just doing this is amazing, more than amazing. Thank you for doing this.”
