Wow, I can’t believe Aziraphale and Crowley invented atheism and still got to be gay. This is a win for queer people everywhere.
can we put this in the louvre
I've had a thought and I think I'm onto something here:
I think that part of the reason why many adult professionals are so obsessed with using Gen AI for work even though they've done just fine without it all this time is the same bug that gives certain kinds of professionals the idea that some jobs aren't "real."
I just saw a post explaining a scenario that's becoming increasingly common where an older man in middle management asked an employee what AI tool she used to format something to send a client, and she explained (to his confusion) that formatting and and creating forms for clients to interface with is part of her job and what she's been doing for over two decades.
I think that it's easy for a certain kind of person (especially someone in middle management who is doing more overseeing and signing off on finished work rather than making something from the ground up) to forget that if something exists it was made by a human and that they've gotten on just fine with that having been the case. It's similar to how people will say that the arts or humanities aren't "stable" or "real" career paths when every single piece of art or philosophy they consume in every day life was made by a person who did just that.
If you ever think that doing something with Gen AI will be easier/take less time/work better than something made by a person, erase the last 5 or so years for a moment and just really think about it. Is asking an AI to write, format, and tweak your entire resume really that much better than using a human made template? Or asking a friend for help?
I'm most likely preaching to the choir here, but there's a lot more Gen AI fence sitters than I'd like who think that AI generated art is the only issue, when companies are screwing you over everyday by implementing the use of AI in systems that you can't access.
how i sleep knowing i write shitty fiction but at least don’t use chatgpt
I love writing Kobra like the kind of kid that police academies and army recruiters target, and I love that he respects and looks up to his brother but is still jealous that being so uniquely himself and going against how they were raised seems to come so much more naturally to him.
I used to be indifferent to Kobra Kid and now he is so dear to me.
Can I just say, even after all this time I STAY pissed off at the House M.D. writers for making Wilson a serial cheater. I understand FUNCTIONALLY why-- every character in House has a deep-seeded flaw with the purpose of showing that "they're no better than House just because they're personable" yeah sure whatever. But seriously, serial cheating would've been a better trait for ANY other character.
This is just another case of the show telling me something while showing me something different, I think. We through his actions and dialogue that Wilson is loyal, he doesn't like to make waves or hurt feelings, he's a pushover. I understand that people can do things that are at odds with their perceived personality, but it just feels sloppy to me. And no, it's not because I'm a Wilson stan and I want him to have no flaws. I just wish he had a better flaw that elevated the character rather than adding meaningless drama.
Maybe Wilson is a serial dater who rushes into relationships too quickly. Maybe he's not present in relationships and then hides behind his job because he cant be emotionally honest, or is overly concerned with "fixing" House so much so to the point that he neglects his girlfriends? ANYTHING would make more sense than constant cheating.
Not to mention the fact that House's reactions to Wilson's cheating also don't really feel in character for him either? I get that House isn't a paradigm of morality by any means, but he's also not frequently in the business of keeping close friends with INCREDIBLY dirty secrets.
I don't know, maybe I'm off base and that's why I'm not a writer for major television programs, but still.
I know this is old news but I'm feeling angsty this morning. Why is everything as of late a rehash, reboot, adaptation, or sequel?
At first I assumed that it was a product of nostalgia, and it largely is, but I feel like every time I hear about a new movie or a new show on Broadway or the next big TV show its always based on pre-existing material that I've sometimes never even heard of.
I saw the trailers for Pillion awhile ago and I was intrigued, so when it came to a theatre near me I went out and saw it. A solid 3, maybe 3.5 out of 5, which is ironic because its APPARENTLY based off of a novel that I've never heard of called Box Hill that currently has a 3.6/5 on Goodreads.
Frankenstein came out in 1818, the Bride of Frankenstein came out in 1818, Del Toro's Frankenstein JUST CAME OUT last year, and yet The Bride graces us with her presence (to quite bad reviews, mind you, but it's early in release).
AMC's Interview with the Vampire, a show I quite like (more so than the films), is a new adaptation of a book that's already been adapted to great success.
I hate to be a Debbie Downer about the state of entertainment when there are a number of independent and indie creators making great things, and I don't just mean your GLITCH productions or Iron Lung or what have you. If you have the time, watch short films, watch original plays, support local and independent artists!
That is all to say though, the mainstream production industry is rotting from the inside out. Hollywood is an ouroboros and its getting dangerously close to just finishing itself off. Maybe that's for the best, though. Go watch something by someone who cares about not wasting your time.
Not to kick dead horses but I was just thinking about Bad Cinderella and had a small thought:
The phrasing of the lyric “I’m your Bad Cinderella” implies the pre-existing concept of a “Cinderella” that could be made bad which, obviously, we as an audience have preconceived ideas about the character of Cinderella that makes that the case. But, in the actual context of the show it doesn’t work because either
1. The song is a soliloquy that only the audience can hear (so to speak, you get what I mean), so the character of Cinderella is directing the line toward the listener. But that’s still really lame, because that would imply that the character of Cinderella has the same context as us for the typical conventions of what it would mean to be Cinderella and to be the “bad” version of that.
2. You could attempt to argue that it’s more so in reference to the rest of the characters seeing her as bad and deciding to own that, but that would still imply that it makes any sense to call someone you intend to villainize “Bad [their name].” Oh shit, look out for Bad Micheal. We hate that guy. She’s already got a demeaning nickname, why would anyone be calling her Bad Cinderella?
GIYS GUYS I WAS LOOOKINHG THROUGH THE CONCERT FOOTAGE CAUSE I WASN'T THERE AND LOOK
