@bourbonwhisky
Kentucky Bourbon Trail;
So the better late then never.
New years is all about resolutions and what you want to bring forth into the coming year. I’ve thought long and hard on what I want more of this year.
Photography, Traveling, & New Bourbons.
We can all agree that I have very little knowledge on bourbons and tasting profiles. Well I’m on a mission to change that.
This year I’ll be hitting up ALL (14)16 Distilleries (When the hell did they add two more! The heck?!) for the Kentucky Bourbon Trail you totally read that correctly. I had no Idea about The Kentucky Bourbon trail until I spoke with a customer at my old liquor store job. They said if your in Kentucky you HAVE to check it out. At Each distillery they have a stamp for this little passport they created and at the end you can say “HURRAH I completed THE Kentucky Bourbon Trail.” AND Receive a free gift. I think they got some T-shirts and/or an engraved glass.
I’ll be giving you my stops in the order I plan to complete them.
I obviously have to hit 2-3 up on a few different visits.
1st. O.Z. Distillery
2. Jim Beam & Bulleit Experience
3. Mitcher’s & Evan Williams
4. Angels Envy & Old Forester & The Rabbit Hole
5. Heaven Hill
6. Lux Row
7. Bardstown Bourbon Company
8. Makers Mark
9. Four Roses
10. Wild Turkey
11. Woodford Reserve
12. Town Branch Distilleries
STAY TUNED!!
There’s nothing quite like Bourbon flowing from a barrel, and they’ve been dumping barrels by hand at Heaven Hill Distillery for eight decades! We’re proud to have Heaven Hill as one of WhiskyCast’s Segment Brand Partners.
64 Bourbons Bracket Round of 64: Matchup 7
The 7th matchup of the 64 bourbons bracket was 1792 Full Proof (Liquor Barn store pick) vs. Elijah Craig (Liquor Barn store pick).
I have had the Elijah Craig Liquor Barn Single Barrel 2.2 Store Pick for about 3 years. I just popped it open tonight. This might have been post fire. As the yeast was super dominant. Very skunky. That Beam yeast dominated. Don’t get me wrong, I like the funk but I need a little something with it — barrel proof or more age. The cigarette taste was overpowering. Not tobacco. Straight Pall Mall non-filters stolen from Mom when I was 13 years old. Now, the 1792 FP (also a Liquor Barn store pick) was absolutely incredible. Insanely sweet, but still had a long finish and a full proof swagger. And that nose. Holy shit! This 1792 FP store pick might cruise to the Final Four.
As far as the tunes, I started with Bathory, which didn’t stick at all. I toyed around with some GNR which didn’t stick, sampled some Queensryche which almost stuck. Then I went back to GNR. And “Don’t Cry” stuck and it sounded perfect for a five repeat cycle. EC2.2, don’t you cry. I am crazy about Elijah Craig and when I am feeling funky or craving a cigarette or grieving Mom, I will dial you up in all your funky, smoky glory. But 1792FP has no tears tonight. Cheers to no tears!
