In line for drinks, Santiago was tempted to just zone out, not interact with anyone. But....he was admittedly kind of bored and the line was long as hell. Turning to the person behind him, he offered a tired smile. "I've seen you around." It was a line, but the delivery was off. His heart simply wasn't in it.

the queue was taking longer than she hoped. she was considering leaving the line until the person in front of her turned around "i'm a nurse at the clinic, i'm around places a lot. do you know what the hold up is?"

"What about you?" Christian asked then followed it up by asking "do you want to figure out what's going on?"

"i did at first. i was convinced we would find an answer and i'd be out of here like it was a distant memory. i've been here six years now and we're no way closer. i'm not sure we'll ever get any answers and i've made peace with that. so no, not anymore. it's the hope that kills you."

"Ouch." Christian winced a little. "If it helps at all, you seem to be doing a good job of standing up right." He offered. "It's a long road, recovery but I'm sure you'll soon see the light at the end of the tunnel." He did think though, this wasn't exactly an area in the world known for earthquakes. "Have they figured out what caused it or has it been swept under the rug?"

"that's all thanks to my colleagues. hawk and his daughter zelda saved my life, i don't take that lightly" it was a long and what felt like never-ending road of recovery but there has been progress and she wasn't going to turn her nose up at that "i'm not sure. most of the time people chalk up the weird happenings to the town. some people search for answers but i'm not sure if it's a question you really want an answer to"

"Ah yeah, impalement can take a while to bounce back from depending on the site." Christian said with a smile. "Did that come from the earthquake I heard about? It seems that a lot of people got seriously injured then."

"the site was various parts of my body, so it's safe to say that it's not been an easy snapback." she shrugged. bowie considered being covered in scars was a small price to pay for hawk and zelda saving her life. "yeah, it was a brutal earthquake. i've experienced ones before but never to that degree. it was a miracle we didn't lose more people to it if i'm being honest with you"

Christian smiled when he caught her eye and put down the weight he was lifting before making his way over there. "Hey there, everything okay?" He wasn't there to help her, he was there to flirt of course.

she had been working on her recovery since her surgery. all doctors at the clinic had cleared her for some light exercise to help build her strength back up. walking on the treadmill had become easier over time but she still had to stop and take rests after some time. bowie turned off the treadmill and slowly walked her way off, taking a seat at a nearby bench.

"oh, yeah" she answered with a wave of her hand "recovery is taking its sweet time, that's all. turns out being skewered like a human kebab doesn't give the same bounce back as other injuries"

Edgar gave a small smile, nodding in complete understanding. "That's exactly how I felt, still feel if I'm being honest." He gave his own shrug at the question. "The cold has made everything ache in a way I wasn't expecting, but nothing regular massages and long baths can't help. Not a whole lot going out there, unfortunately we're in a place where not a lot happens that isn't just bad news. Although! My friend and I wrote a play. We're trying to bring something new to Huntsville, even if it's just a silly thing we put together."

she was with him on the cold making everything ache "i feel that. the cold makes these wounds sting if that makes sense. plus i still always feel like i can taste metal and that's just gross" bowie made a face to display her distaste of the feeling "but hey, at least your getting long baths and massages. i hope whoever is giving you your massages is good at it" she smiled weakly. she felt relief in edgar letting her know that there was nothing going on outside of the clinic. she could feel the tension leaving her body at the confirmation "no bad news is good news. this town's been through enough. oh yeah? i like that idea, what's it about?"

He nodded with understanding, coming into the room and taking a seat next to Bowie's bed. "No medical stuff, got it. So, what are you most looking forward to getting out of here?"

she'd never admit it but it was nice to have someone come check on her. she didn't have many people around here and most of them were doctors or nurses and they were more focused on the medical side. "honestly, i'm just looking forward to getting out of here and being able to move around. it'll be a while before i'm able to move around the way i used to but i'm alive, so i'm taking it as a win. how are you? how's things out there?"

It had not taken Zarina long to adapt to her working environment at the clinic. She had her new makeshift lab all set up, and while she was not overly fond of knowing that she was being monitored like a criminal, she understood the necessity behind it. But at least Dr. Romero had been nothing but a professional about it, and as long as she did her job he mostly left her alone—which was how she preferred it.

She was surprised when she heard somebody enter, since it wasn't one of Xiu's days at the clinic and that was usually who she had lunch with, but when she looked up to find one of the other nurses there, she smiled politely. "Nurse Bardot," she greeted, setting the pestle and mortar aside. "Is there anything I can help you with?"

things had been changing at the clinic since bowie had been out, she had been given the heads up about it all and was happy that there were more staff in the clinic, it helped spread out the work.

not long back on the job, bowie had been keeping bust with paperwork and seeing the patients that involved her not moving around so much. the pain was still there but she really didn't want to resort to pain killers, so she thought she'd go pick zarina's brain "hey, not exactly, but i have a quick question. since my injuries and surgery i'm still in pain but i don't want to go back to pain killers. do you have any suggestions for herbal remedies or anything like that?"

"I didn't forget you." Matt said with a smile then set a box in front of her. "Hawk and I are doing some cake tasting and figured you might like some of the leftovers, share it with the rest of them or don't, hoard it."

it hadn't been long since bowie returned to work after her injuries. she'd been taking it slow and was allowed back on the promise that she'd take breaks when she needed them, which had her sitting in the staff room of the clinic "oh you're an angel!" she smiled and peeked into the box to see what was on offer. "how is wedding prep going for you both? i feel like i've missed so much"

Cautiously Edgar knocked his forearm against Bowie's door. He had a checkup today as well as physical therapy, so he thought he'd come visit the other while he was in. When the clinic was exceptionally busy with patients the two had been roommates for a few days, giving them a chance to get to know one another. "Are you too tired for a visitor? I can try coming back later."

hearing a knock at the door, bowie's head lulled to the side to see edgar standing in the doorway "no, it's okay. it'll be good for my sanity to speak to someone about something other than medical stuff. it's driving me up the wall in here"

bowie wasn't used to being on the other side of the clinic. being a patient over nurse was not her preferred stance but it wasn't like she could work given the fact she was impaled several times. that reminded her, she needed to thank zelda for saving her ass. babyhawk was the reason she was still alive.

the grogginess had worn off from her surgery and now the dull and constant ache was present. bowie lay in her bed willing for some sort of distraction to keep her mind away from the pain.

She gave a large smile to Bowie as she thankfully took the cup. While Xiu was more of a tea drinker, she wasn't about to say push away the gesture. Making enemies of her coworkers simply wouldn't do. Letting her hands warm against the ceramic, she shrugged lightly. "With how events usually go in this town, I won't be surprised if things pick up soon enough."

she nodded in agreement with xiu. a town such as huntsville never had a quiet event, there were always some sort of dramatics to go along with it "well scout garcia is roaming around dressed as a goddamn twister, so i'd expect to see her in here at some point"

bowie wasn't someone that enjoyed the town events. this one was no different and it had her offering to work to allow her colleagues some time off to go and enjoy the festival.

the clinic was quiet for obvious festival reasons and that found bowie sitting at the front desk and on call for any emergencies. she went to make herself a coffee and made one for xiu who was also on shift with her.

"some coffee to keep the boredom away" she offered, holding out the mug for her colleague. "it's still better than that festival"

"So, how is your government-assigned Romero doing?" Dahlia joked as she set her cup of coffee down on an empty table and slid into one of the seats. "Mine is still on cloud nine and deliriously happy with his new boyfriend." She neglected to mention what both of them had been dealing with at the station, but it was not her place to spill her employees' business to others, and she could use a break from it all.

bowie laughed at the nickname for the romero's and took a sip of her coffee when she got comfortable in her seat "well my government-assigned romero is a pain in the ass who is dealing with dad life surprisingly well. i have two government-assigned romero's now, big hawk and baby hawk" she placed her mug down on the table "oh a romero in a good mood, that's rare. enjoy it." she grinned "how've you been?"

Ward hadn't realized how much living at the Commune would pay off, but he was grateful the place had a working generator. Meant he could actually use his laptop to watch movies while bored. On the other hand he'd already cleared through his own collection now stuck trying to find entertainment at a video store of all things.

"Never thought I'd actually miss Amazon Prime," he grumbled as he flipped a movie over. Glancing up when a woman walked into the aisle he was in he said, "Hey is it in bad taste to watch horror movies in this town or am I just misremembering how many came out on DVD before 2012?"

bowie stopped when someone had called on her "i don't think it's in bad taste, i just wouldn't force anyone to watch with you unless they want to. people are on edge enough, we don't need to be putting any crazy ideas in peoples heads."

Dodger couldn’t help but chuckle along with Bowie’s observation, thinking on how it probably could be viewed as something of a miracle. “Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever been awake this early, and it’s only…” he looked at a watchless wrist and shrugged, “…I don’t actually know what time it is.” He gave her a warm smile, another unusual action for him, “don’t expect me to start running with you because you’ve seen me up and about. This won’t be a regular thing.”

"it's just after seven am" she said, disclosing the time since his half past a freckle watch wasn't working. "what? you sure you don't want to try some early morning running?" she smirked "what the hell has got you up so early anyway? as established, you're not a morning guy. everything okay?"
