BIOGRAPHY
Edgar comes from a long line of Queens, Kings, and successful Rooks. He’s always been a part of high society and because of that has made him unintentionally ignorant and naive to the class struggles in his city.
His childhood was a happy one, until his dad went missing when he was six years old. Rumors say that Mr. Wayne ran off to the outside world with a mistress, but Victoria refused to believe that, insisting her husband would one day come home again. The absence of his dad was certainly not lost on Edgar as he grew up. In his childhood he adored Leo; he had been a good man and had fostered the boy’s love for reading. That passion fueled Edgar to pursue an education in literature, finding a career as an English professor.
For a while it became just the two of them, with Victoria raising Edgar herself. So many of Edgar’s hobbies and favorite pass times came from her. They would spend hours gardening, sewing, playing board games and cards. Edgar loved his mum dearly. And so, when she passed away a few years after her husband’s disappearance, it broke little Edgar’s heart.
During this time Edgar met a visitor, Archibald, Art, and they became fast friends. Edgar always waited patiently for the other to come back and visit, to tell him about his adventures in the outside world. It didn’t take long for that friendship to bloom into something more as their childhood years shifted into teenage ones.
Because of his sociable personality, Edgar often befriends the most unlikely of people, willing to look past the edges to the good that he swears is inside everyone. This included his childhood bully at the Academy, Christian. The three of them remained close friends throughout the years, their presence in one another's lives fluctuating in capacity.
For a long time Art didn’t come back and this worried Edgar, having no idea what had happened to his boyfriend. He considered leaving to look for the other man, but had no clue where to even begin searching if he did. When Art finally did return for a visit, it was with a heavy aura and an even heavier ring on his finger. Heartbroken, Edgar tried to move on with his life, to include dating Christian in their late 20s. For 14 years they had an on-again-off-again relationship, often fraught with clashing personalities and the friction of being on different sides of the city physically and socially.
Those last five years Christian and Edgar dated more long term. However, the last 2 years saw an increase in arguments. Sometimes they would fight about Edgar having to hide his relationship due to Christian’s Vice status, sometimes they would fight over Christian’s insecurities and fears of Edgar cheating on him. Eventually the two broke it off though remained in a just as stormy friendship.
Once more trying to move on from a broken heart, Edgar started a new relationship with a Knight. While his boyfriend was still a lower rank than his peers would approve, the whispering and stares were less overt. It was more acceptable than his relationship with a Vice, at least.
The romance was seemingly perfect, at first glance. But when Art started visiting Hiraeth again, this boyfriend showed an even uglier side of jealousy than Christian ever did. Instead of arguments Edgar was trapped in a constant struggle of reassurance and walking on egg shells and even limiting his interactions outside of his relationship. Edgar silently endured, hoping that eventually things would get better. Three years of guilt and self doubt made it quite clear that it did not get better, and even exacerbated. Finally, Edgar had had enough and broke things off.
Taking a year to just heal, his friendships with Art and Christian drastically improved now that his boyfriend wasn't monitoring his every move and interaction. Love for both men had always simmered below the surface, and eventually it boiled over until it was impossible to ignore. Art and Christian were a well established couple at that point, even if they were hesitating to put a label on anything and actually talk about where they stood for one another. And yet, each slept with Edgar individually. This caused a large commotion between all three men, until it came out that they all harbored long-standing love for one another.
For the past year they have been navigating being a trio, with Art acting as a glue in placating Edgar and Christian's more explosive habits. The fear and anxiety still linger, however, with Edgar having far more to lose than his counterparts in such a volatile class-based society.
