(Tentoo)
(Aethena)
It became difficult to push back the guilt that overcame her. Ever since she took a step on New Gallifrey, The Master was there to greet her. Along with a cell that left her very little room to explore, let alone survive. The only kindness came from the man standing before her. Without him, her stay may have been far worse.
Silently she listened to DB’s lecture; if she could consider it that. Despite having so much taken from him, he offered so much more. Believed in causes that most would give up on, or have their spirits crushed. She wished she could have that optimism. Wished she could have been able to see a bright future for herself on New Gallifrey. As unlikely it would be, this new Doctor deserved that chance. He could have a future that all Gallifreyans deserved.
“I hope you are able to convince them,” she finally said, the smallest smile present. “If you gave them that speech, I think they might listen. Just… avoid the Skasis Paradigm and what The Master has done.” Of course, he knew that already. It would make his life a living hell if he did.
Finally taking a sigh of relief, her smile became warm. They could do this. If he could convince the High Council to let him stay here, who else could he manage to bring? The possibilities were endless, and it all started with a parallel Doctor. How fitting.
“My shell is not far,” she started, looking to the new Doctor. “I think DB is right. If we settle you in now, no one will know. I just ask, is there a name you wish me to refer to you by instead of Doctor? It gets rather confusing with so many.”
“Oh, I hope so,” he said to her promise. The Doctor was obviously fond of her. The evidence in every word he spoke about her. He remembered what that was like. Being in love but afraid to say. He was always keeping people at arm’s length. No matter what regeneration he was in some things never changed.
He fell silent as The Doctor spoke about the planet he helped create. The dream he had for it was nice to hear. Perhaps someday it would truly be a reality. Knowing The Master was lord president made it hard to believe it was factual. High Council or not, The Master would make things difficult. He imagined many people suffered upon New Gallifrey.
The daydream shattered when Aethena spoke to him once more. A simple, innocent question from her made his stomach turn. “Does it matter?!” He spat, his words full of anger and pain. Another name was a painful subject that he didn’t want to think about. He was The Doctor. That was his name and he didn’t want any other name.
"TENTOO!" The Doctor shouted rather loudly in an attempt to distract them both from the tension. He knew that if he remained silent it could turn into a fight. Aethena was unaware of what went on in Pete's world but asking for a new name was a bad thing. "Because he's Ten.... too."
He hoped the other doctor would see the nickname was not getting rid of his identity but clarifying it. Not too long ago he explained that The Doctor from this universe went by Ten so Tentoo worked rather nicely. "My nickname is Doctor boundaries. Now that's a nickname given to you rather than chosen. People kept needing to remind me of human boundaries. There was a rule about the bedroom but can't recall that rule now. Strictly speaking, I wouldn't call Doctor boundaries a nickname at all. It's more of a command. Not that I'm complaining. DB has a nice ring to it."
Knowing his words were enough to leave them in a different state of mind, he stuck his hand in his pocket and pulled out a clear tablet. A few steps forward and he was awkwardly close to Aethena. What he needed to say was merely between them. "Everything you need to know about him is on here. His backstory, biology, all the stuff one needs to be a good host, but the reason he's here now is up to him to say," he whispered in her ear as he handed off the tablet. Spinning around, he gave Tentoo a warm smile. "I will check up on you in a few days. Don't do anything I wouldn't do!"
