2 track album
New tracks from Declan Synnott, recordings from the past three months.
Two new releases on Box Emissions:
Declan Synnott - Assistance is Futile The first solo release of Declan Synnott (Siorai Geimhreadh/mvestle). Named after a misheard self service machine, the basis of this tape comes from recordings of Tesco, Paul St. Cork, with subtle synthesised sounds arranged around these. A loose theme ties together these three tracks, all representing potential aspects to the experience of the individual in a supermarket; banality and isolation delivered through mass production and convenience. https://declansynnott.bandcamp.com/ Katie O’Neill and Luxury Mollusc - K/LM/NO A collaborative release between Dublin based musicians Katie O'Neill and Luxury Mollusc. Working solo, Katie O'Neill's work moves from stripped down guitar and voice to harsh noise, always maintaining a strong focus on introspection. Luxury Mollusc has been making harsh noise for a number of years, maintaining a strong tactile element to the sound, often using pieces of found material as primary sound sources. Working together on K/LM/NO, these approaches work together to create a release that is both intensely personal and direct and also representative of a distant, murky otherness; swirling noise, disembodied voice and shattered guitar phrases. https://boxemissions.bandcamp.com/album/k-lm-no
Both available from: https://boxemissions.bandcamp.com/merch

New album, Not a Room, out now on Fort Evil Fruit. We’re delighted to announce this, our new album on one of the best labels in Ireland. This tape consists of two thirty-odd minute long songs, probably the furthest point in our constant state of departure.

mvestle are always changing, a different line up and a different sound every time they play. Modular sounds, modular line up. Working with a variety of analogue equipment and whatever else is at hand, the mvestle sound is always dense and immersive. This gig marks their new album Poultice on Fallow Media. http://fallowmedia.bandcamp.com/album/poultice Rachel Ní Chuinn, of the Dublin Laptop Orchestra and various other projects works with live electronics and sound manipulation, an engrossing and hugely satisfying listening experience. http://www.rachelnichuinn.com/live-electronics-gallery/ Cthl Rdgrs, of Wreck of the Hesperus, Wereju, Spermicidal and countless others has been making music on his own terms for most of his life, incredibly prolific and ever-changing his live shows, just like his recorded output are an engaging and highly individual experience. http://cathalrodgers.bandcamp.com/ Followed by Vicky Langan DJing in Gulpd Floor 2, Triskel Arts Centre Friday, 2nd October 8.00pm €7
If you happen to follow me on other social media, you’ll probably know already that today I “launched” Fallow Media, a new website for the publication of writing, photography, music and more. It’s early days, but I hope that it’ll be a good spot to try things out, to start every piece of work with a blank canvas and see what the best way to fill the space might be. There are no ads, no analytics, no templates; everything is coded from scratch to fulfil a particular purpose. The first pieces on the site are:
1. The first part of a two-part essay by me on refugees, European borders, power and what it is to be considered human. It’s about and inspired by The Great Wall, an excellent new film by Irish film-maker Tadhg O’Sullivan, which is at the IFI this week. (Sappy to say, but I’ve never been more proud of a piece of writing I’ve done.) 2. An audio/visual presentation of a new tape by one of my favourite Irish acts, Mvestle. Basically this is a live remix of the tape, where short clips of from the album are randomly remixed together and combined with some video that I shot. Both the audio and the video will be different every time you click play. There’s also an option to pre-order the tape, if you want something more fixed.
3. An archive of nine hours of experimental radio that I did for the Irish-language radio station, Raidio Na Life. I took my voice off the recordings, so it’s just nine hours of music, divided into six themed, 90-minute mixes.
If you want to support the work, you can subscribe for €3/month. That money will go entirely towards paying future contributors (i.e. not me).
If you want to contribute, you can send me an email at [email protected] with any ideas you might have. I’m looking specifically for essays, criticism of music, books or film, photography, music, and really anything that mixes those different fields together. It really is a blank canvas and, while I have some ideas about how it might be filled, you probably have others. I’d like to hear about them.

///May 9th///8 pm///8 Euro///BYOB///
Cremation Lily (UK); Atmospheric and immersive harsh noise meets harrowing power electronics. Devestatingly sincere. Huge sound from the UK playing Ireland for the first time. https://www.facebook.com/cremationlily21 http://www.strangerules.com/
Knifedoutofexistence (UK); Harsh realism. Brooding dread kicking your face in. Consistantly violent and occasionally minimal industrial beatdown from the UK. Ex-Witchcult http://knifedoutofexistence.bandcamp.com/ https://www.facebook.com/knifedoutofexistence http://outsiderexistence.tumblr.com/
Luxury Mollusc; Sounds like the fear/drowning/spiritual castration. Ditch drone and gravel groan, harsh-scrap-noise and occult ambient unease. For fans of being left alone.
Katie O’Neil; Industrial famine roads winding through the ruins of ancient vacant blocks of flats, a guitar and a womans’ howl echoing.Dreamy bleakness for fans of anxiety, self doubt, sleep disturbed by the ‘doctrines’ society perpetuates. Punishing sparse venom. http://katieoneill.bandcamp.com/
Declan Synnott; First solo show from Mvestle module/Siorai Geimhreadh riffer and connoisseur of misery. For fans of Synnotts, existentialism and prescription coffee. https://www.facebook.com/BoxEmissions
After all that VAT stuff the other week we had made all of the mvestle releases on the BE bandcamp free, and then made the very wise decision to tell no one that we had done so. The three releases are fairly distinct from one another, while still staying firmly in the weird/noisy/harsh/meandering side of things. Water Thief and Empty Signifier were recorded in one weekend with some mvestle mainstays and Cathal Rogers (Irelands most prolific musician, there's no point in even trying to list what he's done here). They're both full of a nice mix of sounds, I recommend repeated listens on your preferred medium at a high volume to get a sense of what's going on. Water Thief tapes are sold out and Empty Signifier is due for release about 18 months ago.
MOR was recorded straight to tape in one take as a submission in lieu of a live set at the Monsters of Rot festival, it features a television, an electric drill, some noisy synths etc. and Barrys Youtube DJing skills, there should be a physical edition of one tape of this floating around somewhere.
There will be a new mvestle tape out soon, sound wise it's a bit of a departure from previous releases, we're very excited about this one. There are also plans for a lot more releases this year which we'll keep you updated on. Along with these, we should be playing some gigs to promote the new release(s) so keep an eye out for news on that too.
As always, if you'd like to release something by mvestle, give us a gig or anything else like that, drop us a line via [email protected]
The holidays are almost upon us and with it comes our end of year sale! We haven’t had many chances to get out to distro since we left our shop at Cork Community Print Shop so we have taken the decision to close down our distro for a little while. We will be running the sale until the...

Highly recommended.
Doing a little workshop/talk on modular synth as part of The Avant in Cork! Blurb: This workshop will give a background to modular synthesis as a form of experimental music technology; looking at the likes of Buchla and Serge modular systems, as well as today’s development of DIY synth building communities, where PCB designs are shared and customised worldwide. This workshop will demonstrate the capabilities of these systems as sources of new sounds as well as their place in the history of experimental sound production.
