Troy has been in London now for over four months. The likelihood of his return to the US has diminished, given the fact his father is initiation the process of handing full rights of the family business over to Troy. He's been managing things while his father and mother continue to grieve and the music end of the family's media empire is on track to have its best quarter since pre-pandemic. He always knew he possessed what it took to be successful as his father's heir but he never knew if he wanted it. He still doesn't. Zev and Kole spent at least a month with him, with plans for Kole to return in the fall or possibly the winter. For now his focus is on finding his own place and making continued gains in streaming for his father's would be empire. He's given little thought to his own needs or desires since the news of his brother's condition and eventual passing.

Troy had only recently returned to the states a few weeks following Easter. He'd spent a number of months in France visiting Kole and Zev before returning to the US to focus on a few upcoming artist projects. On Thursday night, Troy received a frantic call from his parents alerting of his brother Nolan's condition and he was asked to return to London immediately. Upon arrival he received the full news of his little brother's condition. He'd failed to regain conciousness after being found unresponsive in what the doctor's and medically staff believed to be an overdose. Early Saturday morning the family, Troy's parents specifically made the decision to remove Nolan from the machines sustaining his life and around mid day the young man passed way. Planning for a very brief and discreet memorial service is underway. Troy had no intentions of remaining in London following the planned service. His parents a reminder of Nolan's choices and ultimate departure. Not until he became aware of his mother's own difficulties in facing the loss of her son. Edging towards a potential mental break, Troy is set to remain in London with his family and continue the planning for his brother's service. By default, he has also unofficially assumed responsibility of his father's entertainment label, while the older Washington grieves the loss of his son and attempts to support his wife in her grief. All while no one seems to remember that this is a loss to Troy too.

Blue lost count of the days he’d spent in this god-awful place. He didn’t like it here. A place where snotty-rich kids from all parts of the world gather to either play, get married (!!!) or get connected. He’d met so many people he’d recognized from magazines and news. Children of conglomerates, heir to business thrones or actual throne, putting their heads, plotting, gossiping.

He didn’t understand why his grandfather sent him here… He would’ve thought he’d been caged after Hawaii… But no. He was pushed into this world for some reason and for the longest, he wondered why.

Blue finally realized - no, he heard from one of the help at his apartment that since he, Blue, wanted to mess around, his grandfather supposedly told his grandmother that he was better off getting married.

So, is that the reason why he was here?? To find another fucked up rich kid to marry??? He didn’t think his grandfather would hate him this much but if this was true… Well, then.

At first, Blue thought of just accepting his fate. Many days he wished he was still at the beach in Hawaii. He’d run into the water and this time, he won’t resurface.

Everyday was a struggle and to make things easier for him, he went with the flow. He stayed away from everyone but took his chance to go out as much as he could. He thought of dying many times but dying lying in bed wasn’t appealing to him. His life is sad but he wasn’t going to let his death be the same way. He wants it to be tragic. Middle of the streets, cars passing by… Middle of the ocean, eaten by sharks. There are lots of dramatic options.

He thought of stepping in front of a cyclist on his way to the library today. Just to know how it feels to be knocked down by the vehicle. He’s sad but today isn’t the day it would happen decided, so he thought a cyclist would be a practice. The person he encountered riding a bike curse at him in the colorful language of French before glaring at him and telling him finally in English to, “move out of the fucking way.” People stared. It was embarrassing. And that is why today isn’t the day, he thought to himself, face beet red as he entered the library.

The incident lingered in his head as he wandered around the aisles, not really knowing what he was looking for or the purpose of his visit.

When a familiar voice spoke to him, he froze and dared not move for a minute.;

 “Is this where you’ve been hiding from me?”

When he finally got the courage to turn around and look, his eyes grew wider and stared at Troy before saying in his driest tone, “What the fuck are you wearing?” He sounded cold but his wide eyes turned into slits and he felt his face suddenly getting wet. Is he actually crying??

Troy laughed. Why would he expect anything else from Jinho, even after all the time that had passed. “I guess I forgot how to dress when you left and broke my heart.” He was teasing, mostly. The words he’d spoken settled in the center of his chest and started to bloom and spread. It was the same feeling that came when he threw back too many shots or inhaled the heat from the end of an expertly rolled, weed filled cigar. Why was he feeling it now.

He shook his head, hands settled in his pockets as his eyes studied Jinho. “Did you find your future wife? Husband? Partner? That is why your grandfather sent you hear. Banish the black skin and the black dick from your ass? I have a feeling he could accept it, if I were white, maybe even Asian but I feel like he’d have a preference for Korean, still. But never a…” Troy paused. Biting his tongue and choosing not to say the word. One he was sure the young man’s grandfather had spoken. “Tell me, when he said it, was it English or a language that only you and he would know?”

This wasn’t the conversation he’d imagined they would have, should their paths cross and the opportunity would come that they could see one another again. He had questions. Not the sarcasm laced inquiries that continued to spill from his lips. Taking a breath, he considered trying again but something caught his attention. It was the vast emptiness he saw in other’s eyes. He remembered that look.

“You’re sad.”

This time it was a question. It was a statement. One that he was sure was valid.

“Your eyes. They’re empty and full of the same thing they were that night.” He paused, choosing not to play it safe. He stepped forward, “The same look you had the night I pulled you out of the ocean.”

"I know my grandfather was out of place," Blue wanted to call his grandfather 'an ass' but he refrained, "but you don't have to be mean," he said, a bit sensitive with the words Troy used. He wasn't hurt for his grandfather but for Troy, even if he doesn't say it out loud.

He didn't like the way his grandfather treated Troy, but does the other have to repeat it and make both of them feel like shit? Maybe it didn't matter. Maybe the other didn't think he didn't agree what was said.

Even with tears spilling down his cheeks, he raised his chin, "Apparently, I cause too much trouble... My grandfather's handing me down to whoever's going to take the headache away. And no, I haven't found my spouse. Do you have anyone to recommend?"

He fell silent then after the last comment. He brought his chin down but didn't take his eyes away from Troy even when he felt embarrassment spread his cheeks again. It was like confronting the bicycle all over again, but this time, it was going to hit him. It won't kill him but it'll force him to confront the situation. Without escape. Without excuses.

"I didn't think I'd see you again..." He then whispered, his hands into fists, trying his best not to run to Troy and give the other a tight hug.

Timeline: January 12, 2020, Sunday, mid morning Location: Ensorceler Mood: Hungry. Anxious. Jetlagged. Attire: Suit and tie.

Troy quickly remembered what he hated about France - If it wasn’t the constant bells it was the pomp and circumstance that accompanied everything done. He’d pulled on the collar of his shirt at least six times in the last three minutes and he’d lost count of how many times he’d adjusted his tie. Some of the expectations he encountered and prepared for had little to do with Paris and more to do with the expectations of Ensorceler. His parents had tried and failed a number of times to influence his involvement within the various programs offered at the Chateau. He’d successfully refused. Kole had not been so lucky and by default, wherever Kole went, Zev quickly followed. He’d planned a quick visit. One that would end with a stop in London to say hello to his parents but first he had to survive a few painful days in Paris. 

The food smelled delicious but he couldn’t think of entering the restaurant without Kole or Zev, who were both late. Deciding to distract himself with the open spaces of Ensorceler, Troy explored. Every few seconds he checked his phone for a missed message. Only to find himself quickly frustrated and annoyed. He’d just entered the library when he noticed someone perusing the aisles. 

He laughed, convinced his eyes were playing tricks on both his mind and fragile feelings but when he focused, Troy was convinced that who he thought was before him was actually there. His first inclination was to leave but he didn’t. Instead he moved deeper into the library, steps slow and steady as he kept the other in view. This made perfect sense, even with the unexpected turn of events. Ensorceler was exactly the place Jinho’s grandfather would believe would be good for his grandson, unaware that it would only put him in the path of people and influences far worse than Troy Washington.

Taking a deep breath as he turned the corner of the aisle where Jinho perused, “Is this where you’ve been hiding from me?”

Timeline: January 11, 2020, Saturday, late evening Location: Paris, France Mood: Anxious. Tired. Sad.  Attire: Heavy Coat. Sweater. Jeans. Boots.

In a delayed trip to celebrate his birthday, Troy arrives in Paris. He will visit with his cousin Kole and Kole’s roommate Zev. Unsure if any time will be spent at the Chateau, Troy plans to settle in at his hotel this evening and get a few hours of rest before reaching out to Kole the next day. He’s spent the last few months surprisingly focused on his studies and completing school. It has all been a distraction following the departure of Jinho from school. His parents thought it would be a good idea for him to reconnect with Kole and possibly reconsider his involvement with Ensorceler.
