Looking out a window in Marmaris, Turkey, I noticed that this view is one I’ve seen before. One you can find in Boston and New York and London and Playa del Carmen and probably every city I’ve never been to. No matter where you are in the world, paint still chips and nobody has their wiring perfectly in order. Maybe I just like this idea so much because it’s one of my Fundamental Beliefs that people the world over are still just people. Human beings who grieve for death and cry for lost love and who celebrate new life and who sometimes are irreconcilably angry and sometimes sing at the top of their lungs. This feeling of fellowship with the rest of humanity only strikes me every now and again, the last I remember was watching fireworks burn through a clear night sky on the forth of july, seeing every other face in a crowd upturned watching a spectacle people have been facsinated by for more than a millennium. “There is no “them,” there are only facets of “us.” ” - John Green
