Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019)
“It used to be beautiful. I remember this room. Master Yoda melted that door to let us into the caves. Not with the Force. With that crystal. The light passed through it and carried its warmth.” I’VE BEEN GOING OVER JEDI: FALLEN ORDER AGAIN BECAUSE I LIKE PAIN AND THE ILUM MISSION IS INCREDIBLY PAINFUL AND I JUST GOT UTTERLY SLAMMED WITH FEELINGS. I am absolutely bawling at the metaphor of this, how JFO took an already beautiful place that meant so much to the Jedi and just made it twenty times more heartbreaking because that was everything to the Jedi. They never considered themselves the source of the light, but that the light passed through them and they carried the warmth of that light. Is this is a fun gameplay mechanic to have a puzzle to solve? Yeah. But it’s also a brilliant metaphor of the kind that the Jedi would love. You can’t get through this door without using the crystal to carry the light to warm it up and melt it. Just like the Jedi use the light focus it through their kyber crystal, carrying the warmth of it in their minds, hearts, and souls. Ilum was a sacred place to the Jedi, so having this perfect metaphor and parallel to the Jedi, and playing through JFO to see what the Empire did to it, is just putting me on the floor tonight. 😭

avengeus! :\\ Trilla;
her lips twisted into a snarl beneath her helmet – as kestis’s fingers curled around the holocron. stupid, foolish padawan… doesn’t he know that those who stand in the way of the second sister always find themselves at the end of her saber? igniting her blade, she let her rage hum inside her as loudly as the weapon before her. she had FAILED. but not for long… pacing beneath the ledge he crouched on, trilla weighed her options – listening as he spoke but keeping her eyes fixed on her goal in his hands. trilla was fast, breathtakingly so, and she could be on that ledge in a matter of seconds… but seconds was all kestis needed. his padawan reflexes might not be refined, but they were strong. she growled into her helmet – a trapped animal for the time being. his words, however, brought the echoing click of her heels to a halt. you were a jedi at one point. “ so. you’ve seen my face, you’ve touched my saber and now you claim to know me. ” the helmet distorted her voice, adding an extra growl to rumble already present, “ cere junda is a failed knight who knows nothing but betrayal. she’ll use you and leave you for dead just as she did to me. you are not special. not to her, anyway. ” it’s then, that the second sister had an idea. her spine straightened, and she turned off her lightsaber… even taking the risk to stow the weapon on the back of her uniform. long, gloved fingers reach for her helmet, disengaging it to reveal her face. sunken, tired green eyes met cal’s – burning with rage and… was that fear beneath it all? “ aligning with cere is a death sentence. but i can give you something different. i can show you your true power, cal kestis. cere cannot keep you safe and train you to your full potential… but i can. ”

The ginger shook his head, a small frown settled over his face. He knew that so much could happen if one wasn’t careful. But if he was one thing, it had always been careful regardless of teachings. He didn’t have to be around Cere... but the group taught him that he could have people that cared around again. People didn’t have to live in fear--he didn’t have to. So he was willing to try to talk before he decided whether or not to give up on trying. He could feel it in the force around her... the anger. Some lingering hurt when he spoke her previous master’s name and.. the hint of fear. He knew what it was like to live in so much fear he felt frozen.
Head shook some, a serious look filtering onto the redhead’s face. “I don’t claim to know you. Just understand your pain. If everything is approached with hate, we live in fear. That’s no life to live.” He of all people knew that. He’d lived the last five years in so much fear that he didn’t leave that soggy rock of a planet. The Inquisitor in front of him killed his best friend and yet he was still willing to try to talk sense into her. If at all possible. “All I’m saying is you don’t have to like her. You don’t have to agree with her. But she has helped me move past the purge. She may have failed you, but a lesson was learned.” The day the clones turned on the jedi with little to no warning... but now he understood they were as much victims as the jedi were.
He shifted, head tilting and lighter greens shifting to the side slightly. Not enough that she would be out of his sight, but enough that he could think of whatever he could do to try to get her to think. “The Nineth Sister offered the same... not in the same way. But it was there. I won’t go to the dark side. The only person that needs to be able to keep me safe is me. I don’t need to rely on someone else to do that for me. It’s nice to have the help. But it’s not necessary.” There was a shift, the little droid on Cal’s back beeping softly and peeking his head over his shoulder. “Our teachings are meant to teach us to take things into our own hands. It’s nice that Cere has my back, but I can defend it if she ends up not being the way I think she is.”
He tilted his head. “It’s a matter of trust. As I said before. You don’t have to agree with her. You don’t even have to be around her. But you can choose to get away from all of this.”
Hold on! You know the Jedi?
babies want uppies!
Our mistakes… are in the past. And it’s all of our responsibility and it’s about what we do next that’s important.
You’re ready.
