The light
The light came in today In came in quietly and strong It let me know of its presence I am a lover of the sun and the moon I see them both as something magical They can predict the things that happen I live by the sun and the moon I see what others do not see I am in awe of the universe The love of the sun is something that may be considered odd by some But for me, its to my core To…
Ice
The ice melted in the glass It rose up to the surface to be seen But quickly melted in the fluid it was in Sometimes we do that as humans We rise to the top Then just disappear Some stay and float around while Losing all that they are Some fight the melt and disperse Either way, we move into something new Something unknown and scary But at the same time, peacefilled Change is like…

The night comes
As the darkness comes, the night comes It comes from the sun leaving The space where we can visualize it The night comes but it is not a switch The tides role, the clouds move The moon comes away from its slumber The night gently crawls to its place The clouds float around They keep watch on all that is below The birds trade off and the owls come out It time for the wise owl to take…
Seen
Sometimes you are seen Sometimes you are not I have learned to not be seen My revelance is not important In any field I am It does not mean I do not matter It means that it is better to be quiet Than to just flat out be ignored Someone does not want my voice I will keep it to myself Never to reach out again I will not be ignored I also will not fight anymore to be heard It does no…
Day 250#: Rose-Crowned Fruit Dove
Today's animal of the day is the Rose-Crowned Fruit Dove (Ptilinopus regina)!
Also known as Swainson's or the pink-capped fruit dove, this species of dove is native to the tropical rainforests of southern Indonesia as well as northern and eastern Australia. These colorful birds have whitish-gray heads and necks with a bright pink patch of feathers on the tops of their heads that are bordered by a ring of yellow, hence their name. Their wings are green while their underbellies are yellowish-orange with another pink patch of feathers in the center.

Unlike the Wompoo fruit dove, which I covered on day 210#, the rose-crowned fruit dove is a member of the genus Ptilinopus, which contains all of the "true" fruit doves. Like its close relatives, this species' diet consists mostly of fruit (what a surprise), such as those from various types of palms and vining plants. The species was first described by English naturalist William Swainson, which is where the bird's alternative common name comes from. However, Swainson originally believed this species to be just a color variant of the gray-green fruit dove, which is native to the Society Islands of French Polynesia.
Beauty within
The rose hibernates Its beauty is within Unexposed while it gathers The sun plays a role The water and rain come The rose continues to gather Its root reaches down deep Soaks up all the nutrients From deep within It does not need prompts It can just be and flourish Through the wind and weather The rose continues to get ready The earth is changing Changing seasons while the rose…
The Lake
The lake was frozen this year It laid waiting for the sun to warm it up The sun to sparkle on all it is The lake is a place I travel The lake is where the quiet lays It is where the flowers will bloom But right now It is covered with ice What hides within? The beauty and crispness of the air I could stay here forever One day I will The trees overshadow the lake They watch over it…
