The director of Interstellar and his special effects team worked closely alongside astrophysicist Kip Thorne in order to create the most scientifically accurate render of a black hole ever seen.
The stunning visual effect, all 800 terabytes of it  was created using pages and pages of equations and took almost a year of work by 30 people and thousands of computers.
"We found that warping space around the black hole also warps the accretion disk," said the head of special effects, Paul Franklin. "So rather than looking like Saturn's rings around a black sphere, the light creates this extraordinary halo."
