True colors
I guess one of the reasons on why I ended up liking Trolls more than I thought was because it has one of the most realistic views of happiness I’ve ever seen in an animated movie.
To me the bergens were like an exaggeration of human beings and how we feel like happiness is just one thing we can have if we just do this one thing.
“If I buy this car I’ll finally be happy”
“If I fix this one thing about my appearance I’ll be happy”
“If I gradate college and get my dream job I’ll be happy”
In our day in age, we seem to think we can’t be truly happy UNLESS we have these accomplishments/things, just like the bergens didn’t think they will be happy UNLESS they eat a troll.
But it’s not true. Happiness shouldn’t be a reward or goal, or only reserved for those who have those things, you already HAVE IT. It’s an emotion, and it comes out wether you have that car, that diploma, or new gadget or not. It’s already there.
I feel like people, myself included, act like happiness should be an all time thing, like some day we’ll just wake up and it’ll click, “oh! I’m happy!” And it’s like nah man. It’s not like that. When you want happiness, or expect it all the time then you won’t get it. Happiness comes in the little things. And when you least expect it. Like how Branch got his colors back so suddenly at the end. He wasn’t looking for it, but he got it.
The bergens were chasing happiness, acting like it was some prize to be won but like poppy said, happiness is inside you already. Despite everything, you can be happy. Anyone can be happy right now, and not need those things. Sure, those things can HELP you be happy, just like the trolls helped the bergens be happy for a short while, but being TRUELY happy is a lot deeper than that.
And idk that message is just really deep for a kids movie TBH.
My precious grumpy son.
