Rest in Peace, Jason Collins ❤️‍🩹 he was the first openly gay active player in the NBA.

one of my favourite anecdotes about him was the story of why he wore jersey number #98 — he was encouraged to come out in college but wasn't ready to yet. while he was too scared at the time, he wore #98 in honour of Matt Shepard, who passed in 1998 due to an anti-gay hatecrime. it's also the same year The Trevor Project was founded.
