Interested in branching out to other women’s sports leagues after the PWHL season ends?

Here’s a quick look at what’s happening across pro women’s team* sports in North America right now!

In season as of April 29, 2026:

⚽️ National Women’s Soccer League (USA) regular season is in full swing until November

⚽️ Northern Super League (Canada) is in its second week and continues through November

⚽️ USL’s Gainbridge Super League continues its playoff push through May

🏐 Major League Volleyball’s regular season is in its last week, with the playoffs starting Thursday, May 7

🏀 WNBA begins preseason today, April 29, with the Toronto Tempo’s first game!

🏉 Women’s Elite Rugby begins play this weekend, May 2 & 3

🥎 Athletes Unlimited Softball League’s college draft is on May 4, and the season begins June 9

🥍 The Women’s Lacrosse League resumes play May 15

⚾️ Women’s Pro Baseball League starts its inaugural season August 1!

*this doesn’t include individual/Olympic sports! Admittedly, I don’t closely follow tennis, the WPGA/golf, Athlos/track and field/running, or other circuit/Grand Prix competitions like swimming, figure skating, extreme sports, etc.

While the pwhl regular seasons comes to end and playoffs start, I just want to remind everyone that there are other women's sports to support beyond hockey. ESPN is set to introduce all day women's coverage every Sunday(I forgot the official name), it features the wnba and nwsl I believe and there are people trashing on it and I wanna prove them wrong(especially when they talk down on the wnba).

The F1 Academy and NWSL 2026 season are already underway and have made amazing milestones on their own. In addition to that the WNBA is about to enter its 30th year as a league in May with two new expansion teams(preseason started yesterday) and the WPBL is about to make their inaugural season in August.

I'm only mentioning leagues/sports that I watch personally though(I'll go more into depth below the cut), feel free to share any other information by reblogging or in the comments(I'll also put where to watch these leagues there as well)! I don't wanna yap too much about how each sport works cause then I'll just talk about for so long- if you do have questions about F1 Academy I can glady answer those.

F1 Academy is a racing league composed of 17 drivers(three drivers per team(PREMA Racing, Campos Racing, MP Motorsport, Rodin Motorsport, ART Grand Prix minus Hitech who has two drivers)). Despite being on the same teams, every driver has a different sponsor(some are similar to their F1 counterpart, others are not such as Red Bull and LEGO). The grid is composed of rookies and veterans(they leave after this season which would be their 2nd year).

Just recently, Doriane Pin the 2025 F1 Academy Champion just drove in her first F1 Car during testing(the last woman to drive in an F1 Car was over ten years ago I believe). It's amazing to see that the future of women in motorsports is bright. Important to note that F1 Academy isn't the only karting league and there are thousands of others, but it's a good place to start.

I only started watched the NWSL in March but I already had an amazing time. I got to watch my team win two games in a row and they were both shutouts! And Trinity Rodman of the Washington Spirt is the highest paid player in the league right now, if you want someone to watch I suggest you watch her. Gotham FC are the reigning champions entering this season as well. The league is also set to expand to Cleveland and Columbus in 2028.

Like I said before, the WNBA is entering its 30th season as a league with two new expansion teams. Portland Fire(a revival) and Toronto Tempo(first ever wnba team in Canada). Don't get too attached to the Connecticut Sun as they are set to become the Houston Coments with a relocation in 2027.

The Las Vegas Aces are the reigning champs (ofc they are with 4x mvp A'ja Wilson). The draft also happened recently and training camp just started so now is a pretty good time to pick a team. Some players to watch across the league are A'ja Wilson(mentioned above), Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd(Dallas Wings), Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston(Indiana Fever), Sabrina Ionescu(New York Liberty), and Kelsey Plum(Phoenix Mercury)... and if you want, my favorite duo Kitron (Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen, Washington Mystics), I'd say they are also players to watch as well.

Already stated above, the WPBL is set to make their inaugural season this upcoming summer with four teams: Boston, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco. They already have their draft a while back but you can watch it on their YouTube channel. I don't have much to say about this league, I'll be learning more as the season progresses. They are set to play in Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois.

Itching for WPBL to start. August 1st, 2026 seems far away, but some recap for the uninitiated:

The Women's Professional Baseball League is about to start in the US. It is hosted in Springfield, IL, USA as a neutral site for the current 4 teams:

Women are flocking to DC for a historic pro baseball tryout. Here are some players to know

Hundreds of women will flock to Washington on Friday to take their first swings at turning pro baseball dreams into reality.

Kelsie Whitmore of Savannah Bananas fame (first woman to play) will be playing for San Francisco. She was the first round first pick in the 2025 draft.
