OK i got it. it's october 2011. mike's in LA and jeff's still in columbus. in philly they had this like bullshit "sometimes we have threesomes together but it's nothing" brotuationship that is currently on pause both because of the distance and because on their last night together jeff started to initiate sans random girl and mike pulled away/started freaking out right as it was getting good. but he's been thinking about it and would do ANYTHING for just one more chance with him (which he does not yet know he will be getting a few months later...!!!). on the 15th, mike plays his first game in philly as a king and meets up with the team afterwards, including ygdb! who is newly living with coots & finally coming to terms with the fact that he's never going to have what he & claude did last season again (unless.) and maybe he's starting to regret encouraging him to move out and live his own life while he's still this like young brilliant rising star of a player. and then mike & danny are the last two people left in the bar and they have a sad sack self-recognition through the other moment and then they're like well since we're both here.....

So Danny rushes into the Winners Room to help the poor kid, only to literally run into Claude, who scoops him up in his arms rom-com style to stop him from tripping and falling onto the weird industrial padded porno floors. And then before either of them can stutter out a confused apology, the door slams shut and locks them in for the hour.

so the general gist of mike + hockey after his retirement seems to be: took a break from watching it for at least 1-2 years. he visited the kings’ rink in winter of 2018. he watched just the first period of jeff’s 1000th game in november 2019. in 2019 he also mentions how playoff hockey always gets him antsy, even seeing the ads for it before they begin are when he really misses hockey. then in 2021 he says he watches the leafs and jets only because they come up on tv, he doesn’t have any sports network subscriptions and mentions enjoying watching auston matthews, says the playoff hockey makes him antsy thing again. also in 2021 he says he used to be more in the know with the flyers because he had a friend that was a trainer there, but not anymore, so he’s been out of touch with the flyers for a while. in 2024 he plays in the flyers alumni game, the first time he’s back in philly since retirement. in 2025-26 on nasty knuckles, he speaks about the flyers players (like michkov, zegras) well enough that it’s safe to assume he’s watching the regular season games. then of course he watches all the 2026 flyers playoff games and other teams as well because he talks about carolina during round one. are we seeing a progression here.
