Text Message → B Owens
Colie: At least I asked first, right? I could've just commanded you to do so.
Colie: And wipe that look off your face! The waitress totally wants you.
Brandon: You know just because you command things doesn't necessarily mean I have to obey, princess.
Brandon: I don't have a look on my face! It's not my fault that /two/ girls want me naked now.
Text: Is it against the law for me to tell you to take off your pants while we're here?
Text: I might have heard a little something about public nudity being an offense
Text: I swear to god if you don't show up to this restaurant within the next five minutes I'm pulling the sad 'my date ditched me' card and getting every guys number in this place.
Text: I’m here, I’m here, I swear. Walking in now. Go ahead and get every guys’ number, though… you’ll just end up wishing they were me ;)
❝Homecoming High❞ → Brandon & Rory
Walking up to the Owens’ residence had always reminded Rory a lot of home, what with its grandiose and impressive stature. This scene felt familiar: walking up to Brandon’s, a pocketful of weed (not that she would tell him she was trying to abstain from the substance) weighing in her purse. It felt like a lifetime since they had spent time together and while she would never admit it aloud, she missed Brandon deeply every time he left without a trace. As she walked up the steps, she knocked twice at door, leaning away as it flew open. “Why, hello there; I heard you were home and thought I would grace you with my presence,” She fell into a mock courtesy before shooting him a playful grin and lightly punching his shoulder. “You can’t just keep disappearing on me like that! I missed you a little bit…or something.” Her cheeks flushed at the slip up — she had never been good with expressing affection with anyone aside from her cousin. “So…you gonna let me in or nah?”
Brandon sat alone in his family's spacious kitchen, mindlessly maneuvering through the familiar process of packing a bowl. Take a nug, crush it up, pack it in. Watch the way the orange and yellow sun rays of the glass swirled together as he touched the flame of the lighter to the green. It was easy at this point, a routine, and one he enjoyed all the more considering it was the first time he had planned to light up in a month. The boy hadn't attempted to bring weed on his father's business trips since an incident a few years back, and it made the endless days of conferences and tours more boring than he could manage. He had just placed the last of the plant into his first bowl when he heard a knock on the door and scurried to answer it, leaving his drugs abandoned on the kitchen counter. One benefit to absentee parents, his thoughts were only slightly bitter, you'll never get busted. He threw open the door, coming face to face with the tilting brunette locks of Rory Abernathy as she swung into a curtsey. A wide smile split his features at the sight, and he let out an easy laugh. It was somehow always easier to laugh around Rory, something which he had always deeply appreciated about their friendship. "What is this?" He forced his voice into a poor imitation of a French accent, calming his smile but unable to diminish the twinkle in his eyes. "Where is the Don Perignon? Where is the steamed lobster? The chauffers and fine french women?" He grabbed her hands for a moment to accentuate that they were empty. "Oh no, no, no, Miss Abernathy, I expected better from you!" He smiled again as she punched him on the shoulder, not hesitating to pull her into a warm embrace, allowing the notes of her perfume to remind him he was truly, finally home. "I missed you too... or something." The smirk was evident in his voice as he lost the accent and gained excitement, stepping aside to let her into the house. "You're just in time, Ror, I hope you're ready for one of our notorious blazes."
surprise visit || Brandon & Loren
"Brandon," she said under her breath as the girl pulled back to look up at him, her hands taking his face in between them as her smile grew so wide it practically spread to her ears. "Fuck, Brandon, I missed you so much," but even as she confessed to him, Loren didn’t feel as if her words could ever convey exactly how she felt while Brandon was away — and now that he was back, right here, his arms around her, it was as if she was finally whole again. Everything felt full and as it should be, nothing was misplaced anymore. "Next time your father tells you he’s going to take you off with him, you just send me after him. I’ll tell Mr. Mayor he can kiss my ass because you’re not going anywhere."
"I missed you, too. More than you know." Even as he spoke the words, he knew they were inadequate. He could equate living without Loren to watching those black and white movies that she loved so much. Brandon was never able to grasp why someone would choose to film without color, no matter how many times she insisted it was art, because why look at an ivory sky when reality dripped with too many different hues to count? When they were parted, the boy gazed over a million mixtures of gray and black and white. And as he gave her one last squeeze before pulling away, he was almost amazed by how bright everything seemed. How he could distinguish the glints of the lights as they reflected off her hair. Yes, movies were most definitely better with color. "I'd love to see you tell my father that," he laughed, "although you might not enjoy it so much when he decides you're no longer a suitable partner to bring to events. I really wish I could bring you with me, Lo. We'd have a fit laughing over the assholes he associates with."
Phone Call → B-O YOU STINK
Colie: There is no one I would rather have as my Clyde to be honest. [She smiles to herself at the thought before trying to brush it away. It was easy to find herself lost in all of it as she usually did, something about him would just always feel like home to her.] It would be impossible for me not to miss you too, B. I can't imagine my life without you in it - it'd be like erasing half my memories over night. Please, if you aren't used to me yet how could you ever be? I wish too, I really do. You're probably right though, I'll either learn to accept it - or learn to follow you.
Brandon: There's no question that you'd be a pretty kick ass Bonnie. [Something about the conversation still felt off, but he tried desperately to brush past it. This was just them. It was just how they were. If something was wrong, surely she would tell him.] That's never going to happen, C. I'm not sure what the future holds, you know? I mean, my dad has this dream of me becoming mayor, and all I want to do is travel and smoke and take photos and wallow away my potential, so who knows where I'll end up? Who knows where we'll end up? But I promise you, there will never be a time when I'm not a part of your life in some way. [He listens to her next words carefully. "Or learn to leave me," he thinks silently to himself, biting his lip. He just wanted her to be happy. Too often he felt as if he couldn't provide the support she needed. Not now, while his own life was so crazy.] So, tell me everything I missed while I was gone. I want to hear all about what the infamous Colie has been up to, so it's like I never left.
"please tell me you didn't burn anything down while I was gone" || Brandon & Dex
"You’re back? Why is it that you’re always gone and you never take me with you?!" Dex asked, pushing himself off the bed and walking his way down towards the front door. Hanging up the phone, he swung open the door and grinned. "Brandon! You’re in luck, Eli’s outta town so you can crash here!" He pulled the boy in for a hug and couldn’t help but feel a wave of relief wash over him at having a friend around who didn’t totally hate him. "Where the fuck did you go this time?" Dex asked, taking the six pack out of his hands and setting it on the coffee table.
"'Cause I wouldn't wish the boredom I endure on anyone." Brandon couldn't help the smile the lit up as his features as the door opened and his phone returned to his pocket. He didn't think he could find the words, not really, to describe how it felt to see all of his friends again. Like finding some fucking fountain of youth in the middle of a desert, and realizing that, despite what he sometimes believed on his travels through hotel rooms, the world wasn't completely constituted of serious men in dark suits who didn't care about Rihanna or weed or the World Cup. "Like I was planning on leaving either way." He laughed, embracing the boy and clapping him once on the back before following him into the house. "You know my Dad," he couldn't stop the small eye roll, or help the exasperation that entered his tone. "Always campaigning. Says I need to learn responsibility, and, ya know, appear a model son and all if he's gonna be senator and I'm gonna take over as mayor one day. I tried to tell him that I volunteer at a homeless shelter and soup kitchen every other week, so that should be good enough and I really shouldn't have to go with him every time he travels the state, but he doesn't care about those sort of good deeds. Only the ones you can see." Grabbing a beer, he popped open the tab and made himself comfortable on the couch, already feeling at home. "Can you imagine? Me, as mayor." A small grin tugged at the corners of his lips at the thought. "You'd all really be in trouble then."

Phone Call → B-O YOU STINK
Colie: [Notices the way her body almost immediately relaxes just from the sound of his voice echoing in her ears like it had so many times before, but she tried her best to fight it. To not melt away like she had so many times in the past.] I would threaten to take out your father but I think he already suspects me to be the one to try so.... It's probably not best. I -- B, how could you /not/ miss me? Ha, kidding! I missed you too, though. But that's a constant.
Brandon: Knowing my dad, he would find some way to blame it on me. We could make a run for it like Bonnie and Clyde. [He laughs, happy to fall back into the slightly more familiar pattern of banter. This was the Colie he knew and loved. Still, all the anger and frustration and sadness lurked just under the surface, covered by a thin veil of ice that threatened to shatter with the wrong choice of words.] You're not kidding, because you know it's true. No matter what, it would be impossible for me not to miss you. Guess I'm just used to you being around, huh? I wish you didn't have to. I wish I didn't leave long enough for you to even notice I'm gone. But I don't think that's ever going to happen.
Phone Call → B-O YOU STINK
Colie: [Purses her lips, waiting for him to answer. Once she heard his voice it was like ten million elephants sat on her chest - weighing her down. So instead of speaking up right away, all she could do was choke out a half sigh, half awkward tone from her lips] Hi [She finally chirped out, unsure on if she could actually make it through a full conversation with him without being angry or upset. Finally, she groaned in frustration letting word vomit escape her lips] B.... Please, please don't talk to me if you're thinking about leaving again... I don't know if my heart can handle it.
Brandon: [Can tell something is wrong from the minute Colie's voice traverses the airwaves and reaches his ears. He lets out an audible sigh, sitting down on the bed. Hearing the frustration in her voice ignites the same feelings inside of him. Not towards her, but towards his powerlessness to change the situation.] Don't be like that, Colie. You know I don't want to leave. I never want to leave you... it's never a choice. I can't promise that I won't leave again. But please... don't hang up. I missed you.
Phone Call → B-O YOU STINK
Colie: [Eyes her phone silently, debating on whether or not to even call him after where she had been for the last two days -- and who she had been with. Finally, she held down the number two to initiate her speed dial before pressing the phone to her ear with a sigh]
Brandon: [Unpacks silently in his room, hanging tailored suits neatly in his closet. He checks his phone again, wondering if he had somehow missed a text or a call, only to discover that the screen still showed no notifications. As he turned back to the task at hand, he heard the opening bars of "Lucky" by Jason Mraz emanate from the device he had just thrown onto his bed. Colie's ringtone. He stared at the caller ID for a moment, a picture of the two of them with their arms around each other, his lips to her cheek in a posed kiss, before answering.] Hey, C. [He pauses, unsure of what to say, hoping that just hearing her voice will make the past month disappear.]
"please tell me you didn't burn anything down while I was gone" || Brandon & Dex
It seemed like Dex hadn’t slept in weeks and truthfully, he really hadn’t. Laying in bed after finally finishing his packing —- well, most of it anyways —- he closed his eyes and let out a long sigh. Just as he was getting comfortable, his phone went off. Who the fuck was calling him this late? Brandon. Swiping the green button on his iPhone, he sighed. “Hello?”
The sound of Dex's voice cut through the static of a bad connection, and Brandon couldn't help but notice that the boy sounded exhausted. It was almost enough to make him feel guilty for showing up unannounced at one in the morning. The pair had texted a couple times while Brandon had been away, but his busy schedule had kept him from keeping in touch as much as he would have liked. Truthfully, he missed his friends and his home. "Here's the situation as it stands right now," Brandon caught the phone between his ear and his shoulder, taking a moment to stretch, spine cracking in the leftover stiffness from his flight a few hours prior. "It's late, you're tired, and a private jet flew me back to Covington mere hours ago. Which means, naturally, I'm standing outside your door with a six pack of beer. Let me in before an axe murderer decides I'd make a great victim."
surprise visit || Brandon & Loren
Tonight had been her first night home in a long time, having moved in with Ryan nearly a month ago, but she had promised the twins a movie night and could hardly turn down their puppy dog faces. She had just put them to bed and was cleaning up when she heard someone walk in from behind. Turning to see it was Brandon, her heart almost dropped, the blankets in her hands falling as she instinctively rushed to the boy and threw her arms around him, the wave of missing him washing over her, replaced by the smell of his cologne and the steady beat of his heart as she held him close.
Brandon had barely made it two feet into the room when he felt a familiar pair of arms engulf him, the force of her unexpected tackle knocking him back a few steps. A laugh escaped-- a genuine, carefree laugh that filled the room, and the sound of it almost shocked him. It had been so long since he had experienced an emotion so close to pure joy; his past month of suits and coffee stains and probing microphones had caused him to nearly forget the feeling entirely. He should've known Loren would be able to coax it out of him in mere seconds. "Hey, Lo." He said quietly, wrapping his arms around her and holding her close. "Surprise." Leaning down, he planted a small kiss on the top of her head.
"please tell me you didn't burn anything down while I was gone" || Brandon & Dex
Brandon pushed open the metal door that led from the stairwell, releasing a short burst of musty air into the empty hallway. Rows of identical doors lined the wall, and his feet padded silently on the worn down carpet as he tread the familiar path to apartment 207. Aware that Dex was most likely sound asleep, and conscious of the other residents on the floor, Brandon pulled out his cell phone, quickly dialing the number of his friend.
