My mom always told us her father would sing "Deck the halls with Boston Charlie," but that she could never remember the rest of the words he'd sing, except "Nelly's freezing on the trolley." But then this year while putting up decorations she opened the box to a Christmas serving dish she'd inherited from her father, and found a newspaper clipping. It had the first two stanzas, and of course attributed them to Walt Kelly's Pogo. She was very surprised, since had just been wondering about the rest of the words earlier that morning and certainly never expected to find the lyrics written down, but she knew Pop had always loved Pogo (also Calvin and Hobbes).
She was just very happy to have the lyrics to the song Pop used to sing.
