"For a moment," he says, "I wondered if it wasn't you shooting bolts at me."
I make a face at him. "And what made you decide it wasn't?"
He grins up at me. "They missed."
-The Wicked King
"I wasn't kind, Jude. Not to many people. Not to you. I wasn't sure if I wanted you or if I wanted you gone from my sight so that I would stop feeling as I did, which made me even more unkind. But when you were gone--truly gone beneath the waves--I hated myself as I never have before."
I am so surprised by his words that I keep trying to find the trick in them. He can't truly mean what he's saying.
"Perhaps I am foolish, but I am not a fool. You like something about me," he says, mischief lighting his face, making its planes more familiar. "The challenge? My pretty eyes? No matter, because there is more you do not like and I know it. I can't trust you. Still, when you were gone, I had to make a great many decisions, and so much of what I did right was imagining you beside me, Jude, giving me a bunch of ridiculous orders that I nonetheless obeyed."
I am robbed of speech.

i’m crying not the og jurdan warrior being a door
Not one of us has normal feelings about this door, and I love that
this absolutely insane art from the queen herself frostbite studios & she’s illustrating a whole book??? we’ve never been so back
At the gate for my flight home from visiting friends and there's a woman here with a service Shiba Inu. No pics because he has a Do Not Disturb vest and taking pics of strangers is illegal but I need to stress how ON DUTY this animal is. Ears up. Eyes doing Lazer scans of everything. Examining everyone who passes within 10ft like a security guard. Ass planted on her feet. I have never seen a dog with such intense chivalric guardian energy before. He has tiny eyebrows and they are FURROWED with concentration.
Man behind me having unhinged phone conversation. There is an internationally famous dairy in the area I was visiting and he was commissioned by the lady on the other end of the phone to collect specific cheeses from there. The lady is very high strung about the type and condition of the cheese.
The man does not know from cheese. The man "ain't never seen no cheese but orange before" and "I showed ya list to the cheese lady so if it's wrong it's her fault ok?"
I am 80% sure she sent him there for a really specific bleu cheese, 40% sure he does not have the very specific bleu cheese, and 100% sure he's done with her shit.
Our flight is delayed.
He does not have the cheeses in a cooler, just a regular backpack.
I need to emphasize that there is no cooler bag in the backpack. He has Jansport backpack that is jam-packed with cheeses. There is apparently $405 dollars worth of cheeses in that backpack, which I know because he has been trying to get the lady to venmo him the expense, which she has failed to do. It is unclear whether his relation to the lady is romantic, familial or what, but I'm leaning towards "what".
Two more people have joined us. One is a very elegant man with a perfect manicure in a tailored business suit, the other is a neon-haired person of indeterminate gender wearing a fox kirigumi. The Shiba Inu has been staring at the latter for three minutes now.
Uh oh.
Cheese man has been demanding payment because apparently he went like six hours out of his way and paid with his own money and between the cheese and price of gas, he is pretty sure he does not have enough money in his account for an Uber home.
The lady is FLABBERGASTED that he is demanding payment at all, as she was under the impression he was doing this for her out of the goodness of his heart.
He's not having it. He's insisting she told him she would pay him back- he would have gotten her maybe one cheese somewhere closer to his business in the area out of love, but he went out of his way because she agreed to pay him costs+ extra to cover it.
HE RECORDED THE CONVERSATION IN WHICH SHE PROMISED TO PAY FOR THE CHEESE, SHE'S THAT MUCH OF A FLAKE.
I am about to offer this man cash for some of these cheeses because our flight is now more delayed.
"YOU ALWAYS DO THIS! YOU ALWAYS DO THIS AND I FALL FOR IT EVERY TIME! NO! NO! FUCK YOU! IF YOU'RE NOT GONNA PAY ME, YOU DON'T GET FANCY CHEESE."
"OR ELSE WHAT?"
"I'm gonna-? THE BABY SHOWER? MONICA CAN'T EVEN HAVE THIS CHEESE SHE'S PREGNANT!"
"The cheese lady asked if it was for someone because the mushrooms or whatever in the cheese are dangerous for the baby or something?? You wanna poison Monica?"
"WHY WOULD I LIE ABOUT THAT?"
"YEAH OF COURSE I GOT THE CHEESE, THATS WHY I DON'T GOT MONEY FOR UBER!"
"YEAH, GO TELL! GO TELL MOMMA I STOPPED YOUR STUPID ASS FROM KILLING MONICA OR THE BABY! FUCK!"
*hangs up phone*
*head in hands, borderline hyperventilating*
The man in the three piece suit is in the chair next to him. He waits a moment, then reaches into his carryon and pulls out an entire bottle of wine with the TSA pre check sticker on it, and taps cheese guy on the shoulder.
"If your friend doesn't want it, would you be amenable to having it right now?"
Naturally, I have volunteered my box of wheat thins and offered to buy one of the harder cheeses which should be fine if it makes it home.
Meanwhile, Kirigumi has noticed that the Shiba Inu is staring at her and is correctly intimidated.
1. This is some fucking great Camembert. I have compensated cheese guy accordingly. So have like six other people. He's recouped like half his losses.
2. Cheese guy is crying a little about the cash and opening up about his problems. The cheese lady is his younger sister. Suit guy is being very generous with his Pinot Blanc. We are having a picnic/improv family therapy session.
3. This is apparently the latest in a long string of his sister asking for something and then flaking when he asks to be paid back. Started with paying him back only some of what he was owed, then claiming something she paid for him was of equal value when it was not, then recently telling him his memory is wrong and he said it was a gift or that he'd do it for free.
"Yeah, the specific thing of trying to convince you your memory is unreliable is called gaslighting and it's really fucked up." I say
"yeeeeah. The other stuff I forgave because she's never really had a good job so she can't pay me back all the time but at least she was making an effort y'know? But that was. That was over the line."
"If you haven't already, check on the rest of your family's finances. My brother started trying to gaslight everyone when he started stealing from our parents." Says Pinot Blanc.
4. Shiba Inu Lady has purchased a cheddar. Apparently, the dog's name is Donut, and he's her service dog because she's severely visually impaired.
"Oh, he's a guide dog?" Asks cheese guy.
"oh, no." She laughs. "He's too short, and the way my eyes are, it's easier for me to navigate with a cane. No, the problem I have is that some morally impaired people see the cane and think they can get away with stealing my bag or assaulting me because I wouldn't be able to give a description- which is wrong, but rather than deal with that I got Donut, and he helps me by howling at anyone who gets in my personal space and biting anyone who grabs me!"
"Uh." Says Kirigumi. "He's been staring at me do I need to back up or..?"
"Ohdear! No, no- He wasn't looking at you! He loves cheese but he knows he's not supposed to beg so he decided the way to deal with something he wants but can't have is to stare in the other direction."
"OKAY!" Says Kirigumi. "I'm wearing fox pajamas and thought like. He thought I was another dog or something."
"No, no- he doesn't care about dogs, and you get a warning before he goes for the calves. Very helpful, when I was living in Italy!"
"Oh what part? I have family in Tuscany." Says Pinot.
"Does he want a cheese? There is still so much cheese." Says cheese guy.
Plane may be arriving. I am paying for in flight WiFi to keep y'all updated.
1. Cheese guy has sold all but two or three cheeses that he an Pinot are going to eat on the flight.
2. I know they're planning to continue because Pinot talked to the gate agent so he and cheese guy can sit together and talk about family drama and cheese.
3. Pinot has been teaching him about different types of cheese and how to enjoy them.
4. Cheese guy apparently repairs computers and other technology devices for a living and is currently doing the software version of scraping barnacles and other crap off Pinot'macbook.
5. Pinot is now convinced that cheese guy is the smartest and most interesting man in the world.
Ok so the Wifi wasn't working on the plane (also like, nonstop turbulence) and also they got seated in a different row from me, but:
Now that I've heard the word aloud, and they are an astrophysicist. Who correctly believes in being comfy as fuck on planes. They are also familar with the concept of a meet-cute and is rooting for them too.
Got to walk the nice lady and her Tactical Assault Shiba to her next gate because it was on the way out and talk for a bit. Donut is called that not because he is the color of a Donut (which he is) but because he likes to sleep curled up in a perfect circle. He has a sister who does the same thing named Bagel.
Lost track of Pinot and Cheeseguy for a bit but when I saw them again at Baggage claim, Cheeseguy was holding both their jackets, and Pinot was on the phone to his hotel about "Well do you have any rooms with TWO beds?". The rest of the call indicated that yes, there were rooms with two beds, but Readers, I Had A Moment.
:)
Anyway, it's 2AM, I need to sleep, if you feel like supporting this kind of hard-hitting reporting, I have a Tip Jar!

"Kevin isn't that bad it's not like he beats her, why does she need to kill him or fake her death, just get divorced" you are the point of the show, you are missing the crucial reveal. Allison sees Kevin in every single scene as she does their last scene together, but we as the audience aren't privy to that and we only see sitcom Kevin which is Kevin's self perception. He is not suddenly becoming scary and threatening to her. He was like that the whole time. We only see Allison's feelings about Kevin and the aftermath of her interactions with Kevin -- this is the ONLY time we see Kevin from her POV except for the brief initial breaking of the sitcom cam. Every other time we see Kevin on screen it's from Kevin's POV. Even after she cuts her hand we only see the bandage in her singular pov when she is away from kevin, but when it shifts back to sitcom Kevin it's gone.... We do not see the reality of her interactions with Kevin, that's the point of the show!!! Because when Kevin is on screen, it's Kevin's world! We only see Kevin from anyone else's lens in ONE scene at the end, which is when Allison decides to leave, so yes the sitcom cam "softens his abuse" but it also just fully acts as an unreliable narration because we never literally see Kevin from anyone else's POV until the series finale so every time Kevin is on screen it isn't even an accurate portrayal of what's happening, it's Kevin's perception of what's happening. Allison has viewed him like that the entire show, we as the audience just did not get to witness that POV until the end

Unpopular opinion
Many may disagree, but if you take away the fact that Lucius Malfoy got involved with the Death Eaters, the Malfoys are actually a very healthy family.
Of course, objectively they are buffoonish assholes and cowards who consider themselves better than others, but from the inside, what is it there?
Apparently Lucius and Narcissa married because they genuinely loved each other, which was uncommon for pure blood families. Arranged marriages were a thing. They remained loyal to each other throughout the story, through thick and thin.
They clearly loved Draco - both were willing to risk their lives to ensure he was safe (the battle of Hogwarts), they showered him with gifts and Lucius would go out of his way to retaliate against anyone or anything that harmed Draco.
On the other hand, Draco also loved them and looked up to them - he would get very angry if someone dared offend his parents and he always brought up the argument of "my father will hear about this", showing he relied on Lucius. Damn, he broke Harry's nose because the latter got Lucius sent to Azkaban.
It makes me laugh when people say Draco was abused - you mean, your parents never called out your stupid behaviour? They never reacted a bit more firmly when you did something that could harm you? Come on, what Harry faced from Dursleys was abuse, let's not compare these two situations. Draco's behaviour isn't that of a child who is neglected and abused.
Obviously, it wasn't all perfect, but no family is, really. Conflicts happen, sometimes misunderstandings, sometimes expectations that are too high. However, if you compare the Malfoys to what kind of shit was going on in other families in the HP universe, they seem like angels.
Had it not been for Lucius being weak-willed and power hungry, they'd be a very happy, buffoonish family.
Your Honour, OP speak the truth! I strongly agree, dare I say, I agree so much I want to crawl under OP's bed and live there. Like, listen, I'm so tired of the "Lucius was an abusive asshole who hates his son and wife" HAVE WE READ/SEEN THE SAME BOOKS/MOVIES??? HELLO??????
I really disagree with calling them a healthy family. Growing up with bigoted parents is not healthy. Just because they don't intend to harm Draco doesn't mean they didn't.
Part of that is my own baggage for sure ... but the things I have in common with Draco are why I liked him so much as a character.
“Fand, where are we going?”
The knight looks miserable but answers. “To Hollow Hall.”
“Ah,” he says. “Then I am already proven useful. You will need me to sweet-talk the door.”
“My king,” the door says fondly, its eyes opening.
Cardan smiles in return. “My door,” he says with a slight hitch in his voice, as though perhaps everything about returning here feels strange.
I honestly adore Cardan's relationship with his door.
I need to be at this fictitious concert more than anything right now 😂
i like the phrases "it's not for me," "it's not my thing," and "i'm not the target audience" because they're the most concise way to express "this thing that you enjoy has merits but idgaf about it" without being aggressive
i also am mildly confused about why expressing indifference about a thing is taken as an insult so often. i understand that if somebody is talking passionately about something and you straight up say you don't care about it then that's rude, not because you don't like the thing but because saying that implies that you are not willing to listen to someone talk abt something unless it's something that you yourself are also interested in. but if someone asks if you like a thing and you say you dont care about it sometimes thats taken as a bad thing too. i think whats important isnt that you are indifferent to stuff its about accepting the bid for human connection behind it
My partner said, after seeing the wicked movie, "It's not my jam, but I could tell it was jammin."
Cardan and Jude having a quiet and aoft moment together is honestly what they deserve. Probably reading Alice in Wonderland or something.
Gorgeous!
I think people don't really realise that Jude killed the serpent for Cardan. It was a selfish act of love for him.
You don't really notice this at first because when you think about it on a surface level, that looks like Jude prioritising the kingdom compared to Cardan. She'd save the people, she'd gain respect and she'd be seen as a worthy leader to sit on the throne. Of course it hurt her to do that to Cardan but she would gain a lot of power and for a power-hungry mc like Jude, that would be on track.
But she could have just bridled him and she'd have gotten all that and more! Not only would the folk still respect her and allow her on the throne, but she could even force them with the serpent. She would have a monster capable of destroying anything in it's path under her control. She would be feared by many. And she would still have a semblance of the man she loved with her, she would still have him even in that form, forever.
But she wasn't thinking logically at all. Jude knew that Cardan would hate being trapped like that. She knew that killing him would be a mercy for him, what he had specifically asked her to do a few weeks ago. She wanted to keep him bridled too, not for any power grab but simply because she wanted Cardan back. She wanted to save him but she knew the only way to do that was for her to kill him. She put Cardan first to herself and to Elfhame.
Jude killed the serpent in an act of love for Cardan, sacrificing her own heart just to save him from the enemies, himself and herself.
She wept in the middle of the battlefied after cutting down the serpent. Jude, who hated showing any weakness any emotions in front of the folk, dropped on the ground and wept to the point she couldn't even hear the fighting anymore and didn't realise when it had stopped or that the serpents body was moving. She showed herself breaking in front of her soldiers and enemies because she made the ultimate sacrifice to save Cardan. No one even doubted that she would bridle him because that's what normal power-hungry Jude would have done.
And she ran and hugged Cardan when he appeared with no hesitation. She herself said that nothing around them, nothing about the gore in his body mattered, she didn't care, she ran into his arms. She thought she had lost him forever just a few seconds ago and was overtaken by the fact that he's there, standing in front of her alive. Jude didn't care about anyone seeing this grand display of affection, she only cared that Cardan was alive, that she hadn't killed him.
Jude spent days trying to figure out how to bring Cardan back and even when she was presented with an alternate option, she ignored it in favor of chosing the method Cardan would have wanted her to pick. She openly showed her feelings for him in front of so many people because she didn't care about their opinion anymore all she cared about was the fact that she was losing him. The entire final battle and the chapters from the serpent turning, leading up to that battle, show us just how raw and how strong Jude's feelings for Cardan are, how selfless her love for him is, how much she would sacrifice for him.
She even says it to Nicasia at the party when she finds out about the dress:
"Tell me what I must slay, what I must steal, tell me the riddle I must solve or the hag I must trick. Only tell me the way, and I will do it, no matter the danger, no matter the hardship, no matter the cost."
It felt like I was shouting at Jude forever that Cardan wouldn't want to live like that. This is why people keep making me their medical power off attorney, I guess 😅
