Every future has flying cars, and flying cars are always the best thing about the future.
I have spoken.

Come Follow is a round, and one of my favorites. Look it up, there are lots of versions.

Today's comic began with just the vision of Dougie sulking in the tub... Of course, I had to answer the question... Why?

Charli is young and still learning, but some adults out there still need a few lessons...

Don't worry folks, I'm sure she's screaming at me.

Here we have one of the issues with performing necromicmancy after 18 years. Sometimes things didn't survive. This is only the last three panels of a six panel strip... Where did the first three go? Only time knows. Dougie's style here suggests this was fairly early in the life of Bratstreet as well, and it was undated so I can only guess when it was. Pretty sure we're not missing much though. At least it was the ending that was preserved!

The final strip in the series, Charli finally tires of Karma's influence.
I've pretty much abandoned drawing the kids from the side as I could never make it look right, and it's especially sketchy here. This also marks one of only two strips in which an unknown infant makes an appearance.
Breaking the fourth wall is an integral part of Bratstreet as well. The kids are both utterly unaware, yet also entirely aware, that they exist as a created universe. It's fun to have them occasionally make reference to this.

The third of four in this punchline series. This is the first time we see karma come in to touch Charli's life, but it certainly won't be the last. I did a strip recently that was a replay of this scenario a bit, which is funny, because I'd forgotten this one existed. This is the first original strip where (outside of the string hair) the character models are almost what we know today. Also, even in 2001 I knew that the police were assholes.

Strip #2 of the 'storyline' began in the last comic. It's less a storyline than a common punchline continuation, really. The artwork in this strip itself is very crude, yikes! I was using this series to lay the foundation that Charli was the scamp of the group. The most likely to be in trouble. That's definitely not changed between then and now 😊.

The first official 'storyline' of Bratstreet began with this strip and ran for 3 more, which will be posted over the next 4 days. The character models, while still pudgier than they are today, are beginning to become more standard. Charli sported snaps on her overalls in most of the early strips to make it more clear that they were diaper-change friendly, but I found that it just added unnecessary clutter eventually.

What childhood of those of us that grew up in the 70s and 80s is complete without instantly knowing 'Do you hear the frog?' and being able to conjure the voice in an instant.
We actually had one of these in the Daycare I was working in. I think I played with it more than the children.
This strip makes me remember how simple some of the originals were, and I should really consider returning to that simplicity... From time to time.

Ah, the first hint at Charli's eventual love for the state of undress. I was a nudist even back in those days, and frequented an unofficial nude beach in Kamloops, BC. However, since I was working in a daycare I kept such things hush hush and pretty much kept any references in the strip more nuanced than I do today. Also, once again, another simple potty humour joke. Lots of those originally.

Some of my original strips didn't really age well. This is one of them. The gender stereotyping, the domestic abuse joke... I try to be more aware these days, or at least find a new angle that isn't so cliché. This joke WAS practically lifted straight fro a conversation a mom had in the real daycare I worked in though.
This strip also seems incredibly rushed. C'est la Vie.
