Marleny watched as he moved his hand through his hair, the same way that he would when they had last saw each other. He still looked the same, just had a higher level of maturity in his features. She could have broken into tears the second that she had him say her name, but she was determined to keep her composure, at least until she got back to her hotel. “Hi,” she spoke almost silently, unsure of if this entire thing was even real or just a dream. Marleny definitely knew that she was happy that she didn’t get a cab or a ride with a friend — this would have never happened. She turned on the bench to get a better view, and so she wouldn’t get a cramp in her neck. ” I just —… I had a few meetings with a couple of my dad’s old business partners, we’re working on selling a start-up sometime soon so that’s a little exciting.” She couldn’t help but laugh a little, sticking her phone back into her pocket. “I could say the same about you. Your hair has gotten longer.” Marleny tucked some of her own hair behind her ear, glancing down at her black pants for a moment. “I’ve — I’ve missed you.”
He nodded his head as she explained why she was in England, silently cursing himself for not guessing it had something to do with business. That was something she had always wanted to do, after all. "And they let you walk back by yourself? This late?" he questioned, glancing back over at her and continuing to rub the heel of his shoe into the ground, knowing that the cigarette was very well already put out but feeling like he needed one now more than before; he was nervous on top of anxious on top of depressed, and it was way too fucking complicated for even him to comprehend. "Oh, yeah... Haven't had much time to even think about getting a hair cut, actually. Her funeral was about a week ago and I've been cleaning up her things. Making sure they all go where she wanted them to," he explained, eyes staying focused on her for a moment before he finally forced himself to turn his attention back to the ground, not wanting to make her uncomfortable. "I've missed you, too. A lot, actually. I'm... I dunno. I'm sorry that I stopped calling and texting as much. Guess we've both just been busy, yeah?"
Lux was taking a night walk, as she usually did, to clear her mind from whatever shit happened at school that day, or with her brother that day. She was done with all the drama, but she couldn’t really change it, and she knew that. She couldn’t just change schools to get away from bullying and, hell, even if she could, she couldn’t get away from the biggest bully of all at home, her own brother. She was stuck in her own mind when she noticed a figure sitting on one of the benches, she saw him and automatically knew he was upset, she knew what that emotion looked like on a person, and this boy was it. She silently sat down beside him, not saying a word, but instead waiting for him to speak up, if he choose to. She knew that him, being upset, may not want some stranger bombarding him, but she was happy when he decided to speak up. “ Oh, no, no. I’m fine, I don’t smoke. Well, I don’t smoke cigarettes at least, thank you though.” she spoke, flashing the boy a small smile. “What are you doing on a park bench alone at night like this?” she asked softly, looking into his eyes.
His brows knitted together for a moment as the girl beside him finally spoke up, before he simply nodded his head and slid the cigarette back into the almost empty carton. "Probably a better decision. But I hope other people smoking doesn't bother you," he mumbled in response, truthfully not caring about whether or not the girl had a problem with him smoking; if she did, then she shouldn't have sat next to him. He took a long drag from his cigarette before glancing over at her, slowly blowing the smoke out into the night air and shrugging his shoulders. "Could ask you the same question. I just wanted some peace and quiet, that's all. Needed to think and take a break. And what about you? You seem a little too young to be wandering around so late. People are fucking crazy, yeah?"

Marleny had been busy for the last couple of months. On top of getting ready to move back into her apartment and handling business overseas, she constantly found herself on a plane and heading to London. Tonight was like no other — she was going to go back home to Florida in a few more days, so she was on her way back to her hotel from yet another meeting. Her hands were tucked deep into the pockets of her jacket as she kept her attention on the sidewalk ahead of her. She wasn’t entirely sure why she didn’t just call for a cab or get a ride with one of her business partners, but walking definitely gave her enough time to think. When she came across a bench, Marleny nearly jumped for joy, since her legs were aching and begging for a break. She walked over and sat down, joining the other person that had been sitting on the other side. Deciding to keep to herself, she pulled out her phone and began to scroll aimlessly, looking at a few messages when she heard the voice of the person sitting behind her. Her brows knitted together when she heard them, the voice suddenly becoming familiar. “Elliot,” she breathed, turning her head slightly. “You remember that I don’t smoke, right?”
In reality, he didn't give a damn whether the person beside him answered or not. He was simply being polite, and he wouldn't be moved either way. But as soon as a familiar voice sounded from beside him, whispering his name the same way she had so many times before, his eyes were immediately fixated on her. "Marleny?" was all he managed to get out at first, his own voice barely above a whisper. He quickly shoved the cancerous stick back into the box he had gotten it from, proceeding to slide that back into his pocket and dropping the cigarette he had been smoking onto the ground, stomping it out with his foot. "What the hell are you doing here? I didn't even... recognize you. Wasn't paying attention," he explained, clearing his throat and reaching up to run his fingers through his hair, pushing loose stands back into their proper spot. Of course, he certainly didn't look like he was planning on seeing anyone tonight, especially not the one person he had longed for the most throughout the previous weeks.
He had been sitting there for god knows how long. He thought that it had only been a few minutes, but in reality, he had been sitting on that bench, somewhere in the streets of London, for closer to an hour. He was on his third cigarette, slowly blowing out the smoke into the cool night air and studying over the trees that surrounded him. His depression was getting bad again -- he felt like he was on a downward spiral, rapidly tumbling through the black depths around him, and truthfully, there was no one to turn to for help. His mother had been dead for two years and his father was dead to him. Suddenly, he was pulled out of his mindless daze when he heard rustling beside him, realizing that someone was sitting down. He pulled another cigarette from his almost-empty carton, holding it out for the stranger behind him without even glancing their way. "---.. Care for a smoke?"
i'm gonna post a starter so if anyone wants to reply to it that'd be cool yeah!

"Congratulations on your marriage, your Nation thanks you."
PLOT IDEA: Nearly one hundred years ago an invisible murderer swept across the nation killing all those in its wake. It cared not of your skin, gender or age it’s only cared to burn your body from the inside out. It was a plague that snatched children from parent’s tight holds and lovers from firmly clasped hands with no remorse. It took ten years for the virus to run its course and die out before the nation could rebuild the number that they once had before the plague came. To ensure that they would become the once prosperous nation they once were the remaining leaders created a set of new laws that bind their citizens to bettering the entire nation.
When each citizen reaches the prime age of eighteen they are contracted in marriage to another individual who will heritability benefit the growth of the country. The female’s after being paired would travel on Contract Day to their husband’s birth city to live with him in a home that was provide to the couple by the government. The male’s would stay in their birth city but, move out of their parent’s home and into a home that was provided to them. In some cases, the couple was transported to another state where they were more needed.
Each couple would then produce at least four children and if they were to produce more the government would compensate them for their bountifulness. If a couple could not produce the quota, they were subjected to punishment by the government. This punishment varied from each person but, they were typically never heard from again. If a spouse dies, a new one would be assign to the widow and the family would be relocated, if their quota has not already been met. It was rare but, not unheard of for such a thing to happen.
In the year 2133 it is time for Muse A to meet their spouse Muse B on Contract Day. As soon as they sign their contracts they will receive a packet on their spouse, information on their vocation, keys to their new home and a if they are a female a ticket for the train to their new home town. All the classes and schooling they’ve taken has led up to this day. Now, all that’s left is to actually meet and begin their lives.
