A woman named Victoria Woodhull, ran for the office in 1872, 136 years before Clinton made her first run in 2008. Woodhull, who died nearly twenty years before Clinton was even born, hazarded a path on which no woman before her had ever dared to tread. Even more amazing is that she did it almost 50 years before the ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920 gave women the right to vote. On Election Day, November 5, 1872, Victoria Woodhull couldn’t even vote for herself.

Sylvia Vanderpool-Robinson is considered the mother of hip-hop. She was an American singer, musician, record producer, and record label executive. She was best known for her work as founder/CEO of the hip hop label Sugar Hill Records. She is credited as the driving force behind two landmark singles in the genre; "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugarhill Gang, and "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.
Kate Warne was the first female detective in the United States. She is most known for being a part of the Pinkerton team sent to Baltimore on February 3, 1861, that uncovered a plot to assassinate Abraham Lincoln while he was changing trains in Baltimore on his way to Washington, DC, to take the oath of office.
There are no known photographs of Warne, but it is suspected that the person standing behind Pinkerton in this photo of him in front of his tent during his civil war service may be that of Kate Warne. Although no known photos of her are known to exist, we believe that the person in this photo could be her. She was known to have been with Allen Pinkerton at the time this photo was made. Note that this is the only person in the photo that does not have facial hair. Note the clothing and what appears to be a women when you look close.
