"In Sarasota, where music venues are hard to come by, bands have been forming in friendly spaces for years. Bars like Shamrock and Growlers Pub host music shows that consistently pack the house and gather attention, but Noise Ordinance’s popularity stems from its ability to bring all those artists into one place. It’s not always easy. Brian Yoder, front man for Brazos the Rat, expressed his satisfaction in the scene’s continuing talent, but also questioned the possible direction. “I feel that many local musicians who are really pushing the envelope creatively were omitted due either to a favor for the tried-and-true musical formulas of the 1990s and 2000s, or because they weren’t understood, or even because it was thought they wouldn’t need more exposure,” he said. “But I think everyone who played was wonderful and created an event I was very happy and thankful to be a part of.” Whether the festival is focused on introducing out-there talent or providing a stage for the most popular acts, perhaps Noise Ordinance is the leader of a new movement of Sarasotan music – a gathering of musicians and fans all dedicated to getting the word out. As the scene develops and grows, the interest on the part of locals will likely provide insight and support."
